This is why I love Aaron Blaise, he shows every single breakdown in his videos that other artists may not exactly show in tutorials. Painting with light overall has been a struggle for me but I think this and the series really helped a lot, especially seeing how colors are added on top of local colors

I love how your art still has the magic of those old 2D Disney movies. Now I am highly motivated to do similar art. You've rekindled that childhood innocence of mine as a kid who grew up watching Disney movies and cartoons and can't believe how simple and good times were back then. You helped me find such a precious part of myself that got lost during the course of time, I will never be able to thank you enough.

You are my favourite art teacher. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Every time I get asked what inspired me to become an artist I have to say it was when I was little and I saw a short documentary on how Disney movies were made. The fact that they were just all drawings absolutely blew my mind. To this day I'm amazed by that. Though I appreciate what CGI has to offer, the good old days with painted backgrounds and hand drawn figures just really resonates with me. I feel privileged to have access to someone who worked on something like Brother Bear (which I've watched a LOT with my kid). Keep on keeping on. We appreciate you.

I'm so glad I've found this. Most Photoshop painting tutorials I've ran across just talk about art theory and the artist doesn't say anything about WHAT they actually use to get things done - they just say "you need ____ because ____." You added the "and here is how you can do that in Photoshop" part! Thank you!

So, i saw this tutorial a long time ago, and before i used to have a lot of problems with spots and stripes and stuff like that up to the point where i would avoid them whenever i could. Well, not since i learned this trick, in fact i used it in a lot of other things, it's great for setting up your lighting and then you can do other shadows and lights "by hand" to improve it and get an even better result. I just wanted to say that, thank you Mr. Blaise, you helped me a lot.

Torchit If I may, I would say that any "cold color" such as blue will do for darkness. While "warm color" like yellow will do for lightning. In my opinion, there isn't just ONE tone that will fit for everything. It depends of you're composition and you just have to find the right tone that will fit in :) You should check out some text reffering to the "theory of color" and overall harmony such in the impressionist style :)
@AaronBlaiseArt

Simba Actually you can have warm darks and cool lights. It really depends on the lighting situation you're trying to portray.
