How to Make Text BoxOverlays for Photos in Photoshop
In today's tutorial we'e looking at making text box overlays in Photoshop. The first effect we're going to create will be using a quote. We will add the quote to our Photoshop document as individual words and then we will select the words that we'd like to stand out and we're going to change the font for them to Lemon Tuesday. Next we are going to select all the text layers and distribute them evenly using the Distribute Vertical Centres. To make our text stand out we're going to create a box overlay using a colour to transparency gradient. Let's begin!

I think you forgot to start off with the very thing that this video was about: MAKIGN TEXT BOXES... I don't need to manipulate the text, just wanna define the boundaries. Perhaps RENAME YOUR VIDEOS accurately ... this was about gradients, etc. Get it !?

I'm new to PS and I'm glad I started from here. But maybe, try to add on explanation for shortcuts like Alt+J or Alt+Backscape... I mean... I'm New so yea most of the time I just did what was told and boom the thing just pop and I dont know what does the shortcut means until I searched over. huhu

New to PS at 9:28 Alt backspace then what? when I do Alt backspace the entire thing goes grey.. what am I doing wrong?

Really useful, thanks! Just wondering if my text is in the centre of the image can the gradient of the text box go from the centre outwards left & right at the same time? Does this make sense? I want my text to be clearer over a busy photo, but not be able to detect the text box at the edges.

Can i use that text like copy it not like you delete it ? I have logo i export from solidworks and inport in ai then export ps but photoshop see it like image and i want to be able to work with text and logo

Great question! We have not actually tested this out using the rectangle tool ourselves,, however if you do test this out, please let us know how you get on!

@@DesignCuts I finally did. It's hard to say, it appears as if there's not much of a difference from the look of it. However what makes the difference between the marquee tool and the rectangle tool is adjusting the corners to round. I can't change the corners using the marquee tool, but I can with the rectangle tool. Somehow I also think using the rectangle tool makes the text box look sharp with the text than using the marquee tool.

As a dinosaur I use cs4 and every time i press escape all my text disappears? This is the object of my visit. I searched for an answer but could not find it besides yours although it's no good for me. The only way I can enter a new text field is by quitting the text tool and going back to it. This does not seem right and is annoying. Thanx for this video anyway

Oh no we are really sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulty using text box overlays in CS4. We would actually suggest getting incontact with Adobe support directly and asking if they have any advice they can offer :).
