Things like this are the reason why I love RU-vid. How lucky are we to get to experience such hilarious perfection casually in 2020? So awesome to see talents of times not forgotten.
Many years ago in West Hollywood I saw Phyllis Diller at the Studio One Backlot Theater, For those out there who don't know, Studio One was a famous gay disco in West Hollywood California in existence from the 70's to the early 80's. Studio One's Backlot Theater presented some of the finest cabaret performers of the time, including Phyllis Diller, Charles Pierce, Wayland Flowers & Madam, Bernadette Peters, Chita Rivera, Joan Rivers and many many more . Studio One is long gone, the owner Scott Forbes having passed away from AIDS in 2002 and the space at 650 N La Peer Drive is now called the Abbey. Ah such great memories!
First time I heard her laugh I immediately flashed back to Principal Skinner's mother on The Simpsons and I wondered if she did the voice work. Turns out she didn't but I am positive it was inspired by her.
Someone thought this was terrible and asked why she makes fun of fat people. This skit was about a fictitious person. Lighten up! Miss Diller was a great comedic legend and a very classy woman off stage too. Not a mean bone in her body. I'm tired of today's politically correct society. I for one love the comedy of the past because it was all honest and truly funny. I give this a Thumbs up!
She was side-splitting hilarious. I watched her comedy in late 1960s, and 1970s, as a kid and teen. I liked her sitcom. Her comedy was clean, any age could watch her on tv.
Phyllis Diller was born in Lima Ohio on July 17, 1917. She came to California in the 1950's and lived in Alameda across the bay from San Francisco .She got her comedy start at the Purple Onion cabaret on Columbus Ave in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood
+Twaddles McGee She was definitely sharp and fast. How many other comedians can do so many in such a short amount of time? None that I can think of. Bob Hope could, sort of, but his seemed more stretched out and scripted.
Only comic who could match the one liners is Rodney Dangerfield. Phyllis was a female Rodney Dangerfield with the one liners and poking fun of themselves. Both comedy legends.
Man she reminds me so much of my grandma. They looked eerily alike and the laughs are spot on for each other. My grandma would get mad when I'd call her Phyllis.....lol. I miss them both

FUNNY STUFF. I'VE WATCHED THIS 5 TIMES AND LAUGH EVERY TIME. THE ONLY FEMALE COMIC THAT COULD HANG WITH THE GUYS. BETTER THAN MOST. FUNNY ACTRESS TOO. MADE A COUPLE OF GREAT MOVIES WITH BOB HOPE. THANK YOU PHYLLIS.
Oh my gosh, I haven’t laughed so much in ages, she was such a prize ! So horrible but so funny! Rest in peace Phyllis, we really miss you, especially now.
Blasting out a joke every 5 seconds for 5 minutes( and only one minor stumble with the salad joke). Nobody does this today because nobody can. The audience was dying! Saw her show many times and am very grateful!
@@hunkhk you said it I am in total awe of both Joan and Phyllis, these two were untouchable and both were the hardest working comedians in the business.
They never EVER will make comedians like her.....get this, look at the front of her....do you see one of them teleprompters (like those used by presidents when they gotta say a speech).....she is performing LIVE and the jokes are within her......real talent!!!

That one made me laugh and gag at the same time, just brilliant...isn't it incredible that back in '77 a joke was a joke, and satire was satire? Contrast that with what happened to Nicole Arbour for her tame (by my standards) 'Dear Fat People' video in 2015, a veritable lightweight of a skit by comparison. Back then Phyllis Diller got well deserved laughs for her routine; Nicole, 38 years later, received death threats and hatred online, and even scorn by talk shows. Something is definitely amiss these days...

I like how she didn't just tell fat jokes, but prefaced them by letting the audience know it was about a mother in law. People can laugh when they think they are laughing at a bad person.
In an interview she had with NPR in 1986, she said that her first husband, Sherman Diller, loved 'being' Fang and had stationery printed with just the word FANG. She also said that whenever she was spotted in public with a man, fans would walk up to them and say, "Are you Fang?'
The best night out I ever had with my parents was in 1983, when I took them to see Phyllis Diller at the Chateau de Villa in Framingham MA. I was laughing so hard I was in pain. We met her backstage (to buy her book), and she was lovely and gracious.

"Her dress size is junior missile" "she was so big she could only play 'Seek'" "She was eatin' so fast, one night in a Chinese restaurant her chopsticks caught on fire" "Sarah Lee is mentioned in her will" One of the absolute GREATS. A true LEGEND. RIP you funny, funny lady.
