Hell I love me some PH songs, and in my opinion she is the greatest female vocalist ever; but what do an angel sound like? I hear that all the time, but nobody can explain it; especially when angels are not in tune with Nature.

That's right as a black male born and raised in the 90s growing as a teenager in the early 2000s our people always had class i seen our people representing pure culture but as a young adult it's a lil hard for me to spread my wings and bring that back because of the legacy of brainwashed black folks nowadays it's all about an image that looks stereotyped and no good examples of whatsoever all we see is unnatural more like artificial looks and what's worst is that nowadays other cultures are proudly taking our styles and are making themselves look like they own it fr fr but i do see that the majority of our people are tryna take back the inherentance of what was given to us the only problem is that it's not being accepted so easily as it once was back in the days but it's coming back slowly but surely are rising back up we just need to embrace it more real rap Asé

I remember when Phyllis sang at Livingstone College in the early 80s. Some of my girlfriend's hood-rat friends saw Phyllis at the local Kroger grocery store after the show. The next day, they told everybody that she was snobbish and stuck up. We didn't find out until after her death, that she suffered from bipolarism and depression. May she rest in peace.
I love it when Black reporters interview black musicians. You can just see how their chemistry clicked. I love Phillis. She was wise, real, and thoughtful. She was dealing with a lot of pressure and had a drug problem. She had several overdose attempts and the last time was successful. I hope she is at peace and doing what she loves to do ... perform and write music.
The other dynamic performance in that movie was done by the girl group which featured Tisha Campbell as the lead singer and Jasmine Guy as one of the background singers. I thought that song should have been released as a single because it was a hit. The choreography was on point also. That was Tisha's, Jasmine's, the late Bill Nunn, Samuel L Jackson's, and Branford Marsalis' first movie. And before I forget in the Phyllis Hyman clip I listed above that is Spike's dad on bass. The queen when I tell you the first time I seen her was in School Daze ,and I fell in love with her , ever since. I’m not going to go into why she doesn’t have movies or documentaries or Why she receives no homage. so I will do it Clyve Davis you have so much karma coming any way. her voice was a silk musk on a summer day smooth as cream. her beauty was sublime before Whitney there was Phyllis Hyman. listen to somewhere in my lifetime , living all alone , be one , old friends her delivery and pain in her songs is tangible. this woman is the vocal bible she was touched by god. I do not get chills from the new R&b girls. Phyllis is absolutely right âboutt not liking to be in front of the camera; I once saw her on the Rutgers University campus after a concert and she did not let me take her photo; I totalky understood bcuz she had taken off her fabulous outfit and hat and put on câsual clothing and removed her makeup; thank you, Casandra Mills for dressing this beautiful goddess ( her fashion designer); you are FOREVER LOVED AND MISSED, GREAT JAZZ EMPRESS!!❤ REST IN PEACE!!❤
This white middle-aged redheaded gay Englishman absolutely adores/d Ms. Hyman. Her album with Mtume was a real masterpiece, but you can SO hear the sadness in her voice coming through with such heartbreaking beauty, very much like Ms. Holiday and Ms Winehouse. Just like the two latter geniuses, she took HERSELF from this world, leaving us with such charm, whit, intelligence, beauty, talent, hurt.. I totally agree with her philosophy re Black culture. But Black culture MUST wake up from the chips on its shoulders. GET EDUCATED GET REAL IF YOU (Black men) HAVE A CHILD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT, IF YOU WANT A "GANGSTER LIFE" EXPECT A GANGSTERS DEMISE.
