Physical Media is dying, at least that’s what everyone on RU-vid keeps telling us, but here’s why it’s really not

They're not talking about people like you they're talking about 20 and under. Physical media doesn't matter to the streaming generation.
@dragonofhatefulretribution9041
@dragonofhatefulretribution9041 6 месяцев назад
It will be essential for the generation that get’s “locked-out” of the system for non-compliance and refusing to accept the “new-normal” & submitting to the self-appointed technocratic ‘elite’ that uses social-credit score to enslave us and monitor and control every aspect of our lives…

You sure about that? Have you did a study going from city to city and door to door? Only asking because the store in town is booming with physical media and 90% of their customer base is under 20. Also easily go to well over 100 trips to various physical media stores within each month and I notice more younger people buying physical media over older people.
@dragonofhatefulretribution9041
@dragonofhatefulretribution9041 6 месяцев назад
@@randybradley4151 Exactly. Big daddy CommieTube deleted my initial comment responding to the OP but I totally agree. We all live in the same reality and the kids can also see the writing on the wall-they don’t want a tyrannical nanny state that owns everything and tells them what they can or can’t watch and demands to them what they should believe or not. Physical media may be becoming more niche-but it’s still making a return regardless..

I recently discovered your content. I have the same feeling about physical video games. All my friends just use the online stores, but I still like to have the discs. Unfortunately more and more games are releasing digital only these days.

I enjoy collecting physical media because I like to own the stuff I watched and enjoyed. Another reason is I do not have faith in digital storage. Over the years I've had AWFUL luck with Hard drives with nearly all of them dying on me prematurely and me ending up losing quite a lot of files that were important to me. So it made me quite paranoid when it comes to digital storage and I feel more safe with physical for that reason.
@misterlexx2721
@misterlexx2721 6 месяцев назад
That is not so bad. Amazon Prime and Google TV " sell" movies but you will not even get an actual file to download on your hard drive. What you get when you " buy" a movie is digital access to view the movie content ONLY! Physical all the way for movies I want to own!

Only physical media is acceptable to my PLEX Media Server. I collect and keep physical media and use spinning HDDs and still can look at my physical media on my shelves whenever I want. You can do physical media and HDDs in full quality of the discs. I get that you’re not into it, but if we want more people to get into physical media then why not throw that option out there for people? Again, you can own physical media and display it on shelves etc. and rip them full quality to an HDD on your own PLEX Media Server and enjoy it in your home and also wherever you travel. I think we physical media collectors do a disservice by not giving people options in physical media. But that’s just me. And you can have multiple versions of whatever film all organized on PLEX. 🤷‍♂️Full quality MKV rips to my PLEX Server and more shelf space for my physical media 😎👍.

You mentioned the availability of 28 Days Later. I just looked it up and it apparently isn't available to stream through legal means anywhere right now in the US. Of course I have the DVD and you can still buy a copy, but if that physical version wasn't available then everyone who wanted to watch it would have to resort to the high seas (or using a VPN) without a legal means to watch in their region

Streaming is digital rental. Even individual digital purchases are along the same lines, because you are usually still tied to the internet, the actual video service, have zero control over availability and modifications, and no ability to sell movies you no longer watch or purchase used content.

Just seems like most physical media collectors today are just chasing the next release Try watching what's on your shelf before you worry about what comes out next month.🤘💿🤘ps Numbers don't mean 💩i could have a half a dozen releases that are worth more than three hundred of your dollar store movies Collect what you love don't double dip

I've watched so many times companies removing movies that people really want to watch off of their main site and just making it so you physically have to rent it or buy it especially around Halloween or Christmas. I've also seen a number of movies that I wanted to watch all of a sudden no longer be available. And your right people like all the extras with dvds and blu-rays too, I've been able to watch some things just because I the dvds and blu-rays of them. Some versions of some movies are even better on VHS because they changed all the later versions .. like with Star Wars, It's better sometimes not to have the companies have control over your media. I collect and I sell a lot of media on Ebay as well.

I watched a lot of edited, trimmed, and commercial injected movies as a kid in the 80/90s on tv. I really enjoy having the original unedited copies and have a whole new appreciation an adult. Was always Personally concerned things would be “lost to time” but in more recent years, “edited for modern audiences” in newer iterations or worst case, being completely suppressed due to being deemed offensive by the ever changing social standards of the day. Even movies from 10 years ago could fall into this category.

In Canada BestBuy, Costco , HMV, and walmart no longer sell movies or are getting out of it. Its becoming harder and harder to buy movies at a store. I buy mostly from Amazon its a real shame its all going to the digital streaming. I buy Blue - Ray and 4k I want own it and also for the sound quality your getting Atmos DTS HD ect .

I buy because I fear movies will go out of print (soon). So I have around 200-300 DVDs/Blu-Rays of movies I never watched and another 300 Blu-Rays/4k Blu-Rays which I would consider as my collection. But every time I watch a movie from this „movies I never watched“ stack, I immediately decide if the DVD/Blu-Ray will end up on eBay. I don‘t need movies in my collection which I will never watch again in the next 10 years or so

Walmart in the United States had been backing away from physical media, but that’s changed now that they have an exclusive deal to release steelbooks that used to be only at Best Buy. But with Best Buy having gotten out of the physical store business a month or so ago, Walmart has snagged those rights. The downside is that if one lives outside U.S., you have to rely on someone buying them and then shipping it to me. It’s a bit expensive, but I’m lucky in that my best friend lives in the States. As for Costco, they got out of the physical media business a few years back. The only physical media they still carry are books. Just found your channel today and this is the third one I have watched. Thanks from another Commonwealth country, Canada…

Optical disc(dvd, blu-ray) is not more of a physical representation of a movie than hdd. It's a digital information just like with HDD or microSD. Plasic box and paper cover doesn't change that fact. VHS, audio tapes, vinyl and books ARE physical media.

I couldn't care less personally. Modern physical movie & gaming media looks like crap. Cheap flimsy throwaways slathered in legal text agreement with a bland vanilla-looking disc inside that's stamped with a boring logo. lol I don't get the appeal other than the re-sale value in the case of lets say, Nintendo Switch or PS5 games. Movies are different since we're streaming or 'unlocking' streaming movies buy purchasing them off Apps like Prime or RU-vid(etc) These aren't legit digital downloads boasting the same Audio & Picture quality that you'd get from an actual DVD, Blu-ray or 4K ultra disc. That's where the main difference lies. With Gaming, you're buying the exact same data that you'd get on a Disc or Cart. there's zero difference other than re-sale value.

More concerned with the pulping of books not in print anymore. Potentially Dangerous . Its a weird time. I once in a while pick up a hard cover item in a thrift store for $3 that only at the turn of the century, I would pay $50 for in a used book shop that are dissapearing all the time. Truth is Id rather live in that world that costed a bit more for gems if it meant people maintained an appreciation. On an other note , I have collected shelf fulls of DVDs but there is something that is a fact that I must admit. I only go back to about 10% of them to view over again. Favorites. So the others are just sitting there. Yay collecting. But when it comes to my comics, that is a whole different animal. Dont mind them sitting and sealed. Appreciating all the time.

I sell music for a living. Sadly, CDs are becoming extinct with a COLLECTOR side flourishing, but limited = artist website & label directly sell them, bypassing the distribution channel... a negative for an indie record store like we are... BUT you can tell that fans love vinyl and CDs and minor way Cassette tape (4 tracks). The Eight track revival failed. As most as a double vinyl is the cost of the 8tracks. VHS though is about the price of a DVD, cheaper than Bluray full package (with dvd & digital) or full 4k expensive deluxe packaging.

Much of what you said about the benefit is true especially with regard they can pull titles or versions. Films could evaporate into the void completely. Like Barbarian for instance no physical release. I predominantly do my collection in terms of wanting to support the types of films I wanna see being made. But yah not to mention it's satisfying flipping the bird to streaming corps who have drastically raised prices. Hahah'

Meanwhile, the movies people are buying off Prime & RU-vid aren't legit-digital. you're just unlocking a streaming movie. :P Picture & Audio Quality can't compete against the real thing on disc, and there's a chance they'll take it down off the shop and you won't have access to it anymore.

I collect DVDS for a bunch of reasons. A lot of older or obscure stuff will never be on a streaming platform. You can't edit my DVD's for 'offensive' scenes.I can lend my DVD's to a friend. Obscure rare stuff can appreciate in value and I can resell it. Digital versions don't have deleted scenes, director commentary's etc etc. God forbid if the internet went offline, I would have years of entertainment.

@nerdygeezer78 It must be. I've never come across disc rot when using discs as backup media for my computer systems. I have DVDs that go back to the mid to late 2000s thst are fine. The cheapest DVD brand I've bought has been the Staples brand. I would usually buy Imation, Memorex, Phillips and Verbatim. Now, it's mainly Verbatim because I find that the Blu-ray storage discs are more reliable that other brands, and I still have blank Verbatim DVD from over 4 years ago that I either have used or haven't.
