Switch headaches, pressure sensations, and dissociation, oh my!
There's a lot of physical sensations that come with DID/OSDD that aren't talked about as much, and Silver does their best to cover them in this video!

Switching headaches, as well as headaches from trying to communicate with certain alters is one of the things we try to remember when we feel like we're probably faking.

Yes! No doctor understands me when I talk about the pressure. I actually feel pressure/movement from behind my right eye to behind my left eye and then my scalp tingles, like chills.

Pressure right above both ears along with tingling.....yeeep Waking up with it bothers me the most. Well actually sometimes I'm switching and not waking up from sleep. Sometimes coming out of a sort of transe like state.

I have a slightly violent alter who is no danger to the body, but tends to be overprotective toward all of us. Her way of holding the body is quite intimidating, sitting straight and usually glaring, if I'm being honest. She doesn't usually front, but when she does it's like getting a caffeine shot. It's quite an odd experience. Sorry for rambling on about her, there's alot to say, I suppose.

I have a protective one just like the one you described. She's constantly "on caffeine high". It's exhausting.

We experience switching headaches, it usually happens when the fronting alter is fighting the alter trying to front. This also leaves us feeling tired and fatigued. We also experience communication breakdown headaches, ie, when i make a discussion that one of the others does not like because i failed to check in with everyone first, i'll get a headache. It runs from our right temple to our left temple across the top of our head. This headache will instantly go away once the issue is resolved. Also, we/i really enjoy your informative videos, please keep doing them.

If it is okay with you, could you do a video on how you discovered you were a system, or how new alters make themselves "known"? No pressure, though.

Hi , we have not been diagnosed to have OSDD and have recently found out that such a diagnosis exists . For a long time , we have been confused as to what was going on . Even us “alters” , if you will , still don’t fully understand our own situation . And the original “host” has locked herself away for about 2 or 3 years now . We’re constantly wondering and questioning what is happening to us . I’m pretty much skeptical of a lot of things so I’m still not sure about trying to actually figure out what our situation is . We get moments where we think we’ve just lost it and we just don’t know what to do . It’s enlightening to see other people describe similar experiences to ours . For us , majority of the time , our switches only take a few seconds and it’s sometimes hard to see a line of when one has switched with another . Our forehead tingles sometimes . We sometimes get headaches when we try to communicate inside our headspace too . We all have different postures and mannerisms , and way of speaking . When I start to front , there’s a sudden heaviness and weight at our chest . I feel bad when the others start to feel sick because of me . But in any case , I’d like to thank you all . It’s giving us a little bit of courage to see that we are not alone , so thank you . - L -

I’ve noticed that certain alters, when present, will produce different physical symptoms in the body before/after moving around. Nausea, migraines, and sometimes either fatigue or an energy burst. I like it because I know who is who (I also take into consideration my diet, health, menstrual cycle as well when tracking symptoms)

We definitely get switching headaches! I have a few feelings that I notice with certain parts. We have a pixie part, when I feel her close we feel lighter and “floatier” in our step. When I feel a young fearful part, we get tightness in our chest and slouch over a bit more.

I usually get a numb gooey feeling in my head, our face goes numb, or it feels like someone poured ice water over us. After switching I usually feel super depressed and tired and still have some remaining feelings or fears as the alter before me. My little is dyslexic so when ever that starts happening I know she’s near. The list could go on and on but anyway, thanks I thought I was just weird

I’m apart self diagnosed (my boyfriend who has DID diagnosed said i most likely have OSDD) OSDD-1b system. I get major headaches when i have switches. it hurts so much hahaha. i also feel like i’m faking it because we.. don’t get amnesia. i don’t feel like i ever disconnect from my body when we switch, and i think that’s because i always get scared i’m going to be hurt when i’m not in control due to past trauma. i can always feel when Lucie (protector) coming to the front a lot. she’s always on edge that i’m going to front. she slouches, and whenever she’s near the front, my ears get a bit of pressure. i believe this is because she is part wolf in our inner world. thank you for this, it helps me feel valid and loved. 🥺 - Leo, Host, Secret Sea system

I wish I could find more anecdotal reports on how the headaches themselves feel to people. I often have a subtle sense of pressure in the middle of my forehead. It's different from other tension headaches, I can't actually locate trigger points and though I have the urge to rub my entire head a lot, massage doesn't seem to really 'reach' that feeling of pressure. When that occurs, it's also combined with the sensation of my head getting heavy and all that feels very mentally draining somehow, so I simultaneously get a feeling of suddenly being very "tired", and sometimes the space around or my own words feel reverby and 'hollow'.

my “switchy” feeling is more like a “floaty” feeling.. i feel like i’m whooshing or floating out of my body in order for someone else to take over. if there’s a full switch, it feels like stepping into the body like you would put on a onesie, y’know? legs in, arms in, get adjusted, then zip it up lol. plus, OMFG YES, THE HEADACHES 😓😓😤 (that usually happens along with the physical pressure of being co-con, which happens more so than a full switch & whoooooo! the paaaain is almost laughably unreal. i’m never not without tylenol near by😬) - you’re really great at explaining these feelings. thank you. 💜

Sometimes I actually feel like someone has jumped in my body and I'm watching from another part of my body. The alters mannerisms are so different, they speak, different and like different things. My goodness it's so hard to deal with switching on some days when it happens often in one day. I still have no control over switching, and sometimes I can't see what's going on do I'll have missing time. Then sometimes I'm not aware that I've switched until I try to do something that my core does all the time, but I can't do those things as as well.

OH!! The posture leakage thing!! And our trauma holder has a lot of physical tics and twitches, those leak too which is a bit scary and overwhelming. We notice that the body's fatigue lessens with certain people (we have a chronic illness). And the headache thing, we have chronic migraines anyway, but our "whatever you wanna call us lot" related headaches are more these weird tension headaches, we don't get them often but yeah.

This is super interesting. Although I myself have no DID or OSDD (but I may have another dissociative disorder) I experience similarish things. Sometimes I get in a very strange mood of being angry and aggressive towards myself. It's kinda hard to discribe. Everytime this happens my body starts to shake and wind and I feel how my back straightens up. My mucles feel very tense then. It almost feels like this emotion literally takes over my body and holds it. After the feelings are gone, my body starts to relax again. Sometimes there are headaches too. I even named this emotion takeover "Raven" although I know that shes not an alter. But it helps me to have a name for it.

Great video, Silver! I often feel a moving pressure on the sides of my head and in my forehead when somebody else is coming forward. Definitely a funny feeling, like their conciousness is moving inside your brain. And we all have different postures and use the facial muscles differently.

Everytime i switch or have a really long talk with one of my inner voices my head actually hurts a little, sometimes I feel pressure when I feel someone is close or I'm talking to some of them and I can feel pressure in parts on my face too, didn't know that was actually a symptom I also feel like chills Omg right now I felt the worst feeling, chills and pressure in all my body and I felt so sad suddenly then I had flashbacks and I switch foe a moment's but I think the others took care of it

We get passive influence type feeling sometimes which most often feel like someone messing with our proprioception or spatial awareness within the body. There's switching headaches and communication headaches. Oftentimes dissociation can come along with twitchy eyes and dizziness and an electric sensation in the back of our head, down our neck and across our shoulders.

I experience tics sometimes, like shaking - hands, legs, whole body even, shivers sometimes, can't really explain, when it comes to specific symptoms my jaw hurts, body temperature changes for me, I get thirsty, hungry, nauseous, I want to pee at times as well, I start breathing differently, heart works differently and our partner says that some of my alters even SMELL differently and we also feel pain differently, I also feel the pull back when someone fronts, like I'm hiding into my own self, we talk, walk, sit, use things differently etc. and obvi we also have headaches or get sleepy and dissociating at times, recently I started feeling more ME, not just notice behaviors, I also can sense better who's fronting or talking in head space thx to that - hope that's helpful (I have OSDD)

Its been a couple of years since I've known that I've had DID since my childhood but some things are still hard to get used to. Like certain alters are so outgoing and talkative unlike my front isn't as talkative and friendly so it like when alters come forward and get to being extra friendly and just talking to everyone I can't stop it. Its frustrating because it really feels like I'm in the car but looking at what's going in from the back seat. Switching happens pretty often and sometimes I'm aware that its happened but sometimes I don't realize it until I switch back to my core person. Headaches, pressure by my ears and also tingling is what I go through also. For some reason I switch a lot when I'm trying to sleep other alter don't want to sleep so I'm up and down all night, every night. I'm still working on trying pull the alters together so I won't switch as much and have so many changes but as of right now switching is not ending anytime soon.

I only just recently learned about all of these things and decided to look into it more. I've been told by a few people that I may have alters but I sort of denied it for a while until someone i knew with extensive knowledge, as well as a few osdd system friends told me that it's likely i do have it. This video explains a lot of things that have happened with my alters. One of the two that i have as of now usually only becomes active when i'm not feeling... the best, you could say. Usually when he's active, he cant move my body much. We more or less stay in one place and i think that's just his method of protecting me and our body. I'm glad to see that this is normal among osdd systems. I get worried a lot of the time that I could be faking it.

We don't experience switching headaches, but we get some discomfort too. The middle of our littles likes fronting, but when they do it sometimes finds it weird, or like it hurts (i dont really know if they mean physically or mentally). Another headache we (i) get, is when "my little" (some of us got a little which it more attached to us than the others, and we have a harder time wth other littles than wth them, kinda like a small sibling) cries. Theyre the only one who can show a physical appearance in the headspace even though theyre pretty new, and when something bad happens while they front they'll switch to me and cry there. And when it happens i get a super strong headache till the issue is solved TwT We also have those position changes, mostly in how we write and how our voice sounds. For example, our main protector has a super neat and small letter, the secondary protector's a mess, the littles' letters are kinda like the body's letter when it was a kid... Also the voice changes, the male alters' is deeper, one of us has a beautiful singing voice, the littles' is like a whisper, etc. And ik im rambling but idc-

Hello everyone in The Rings System 😊 I noticed you mentioned going to school for neuroscience with a focus on trauma (correct me if that's wrong!) and I'd love to speak with you about it because that's my plan as well! I am also going to be evaluated by a trauma/dissociative specialist soon at the request of my therapist. So finding a system that has common interests as well as what my therapist suspects I have (osdd1b) has been so helpful and calming for me. Thank you so much for your videos. Sidenote: I've always kind of wanted to do a podcast but lack content at the moment! I'm kind of inspired! Anyways, I'd love to talk more on here or on another platform, whatever makes you comfortable! (EDIT) P.S. You can call me Em for now!

I have also not been diagnosed and have just thought about what has been going on with me but have similar symptoms sometimes my whole demeanor changes and I feel like I’m just in the back seat or my family telling me I’ve done things when I know I haven’t or the two whole years of childhood memories missing? I have always herd voices in my head since I was five and he was the first voice I think my brain made him because I was so lonely and bullied it was literally so unbearable and horrible that I just wanted to disappear and it sucks to have that thought as a poor little five year old I’ve met him and he’s the most friendly,loving person ever but as I got older my life got worse as it got bad each time a new alter was made to help me and I’ve been able to speak with them and sometimes I can tell when I switch sometimes I can’t but they’re all great but I don’t know how to deal with it now that I’ve looked into it and know what it is. I’ve recently turned 15 and thanks to my alters/voices I been coping better anyway thanks for listening to my little rant! And just found your channel but I love it already!

An OSDD-1b system here! We mostly experience the switching headaches during long switches; when an alter feels the need to get to the front, but there's an EP they can't connect to; or when the alters who are in the back suddenly get pulled forward. The alters who are really close to the front are able to relay the fronting position between themselves multiple times and still not feel any physical symphtoms with the exception of dissociation. The headaches usually move from the right to the left temple through the forehead. As for other symptoms; I've noticed that some of us walk differently, use different hand gestures when talking, but I'm really not sure about the overall posture so I'll make sure to observe that from now on! Also, could I ask how is it for you guys with OSDD-1b with muscle memory? Because we have alters who for example wear glasses, can't feel body temperature or have a dominant left hand, but when they get to the front, they have to accustom to the body's muscle memory that never changes even though it feels unnatural to them. Hopefully, we were able to convey another perspective of physical symphtoms for this particular disorder! Thank you for the informative video and for doing so much of the community overall, and I hope you're all having a wonderful day!! ^^
@TheRingsSystem
@TheRingsSystem 5 лет назад
Hi! I know muscle memory carries between us to some degree - but I haven't paid as much attention to that as I have other parts of the system. I think it might depend on the alter and who else is closest to the front. Here's some things I've noticed in us: 1. I can play the piano well, and so can Montana, but not Mia. Montana when she does play, plays the pieces differently than I do, and I've usually been in the background when she does. I'm in the background with Mia as well, but I'm not sure how much she would actually want to try to play the piano. 2. The body automatically does things sometimes, also depending on how close other certain alters with physical tenancies? habits? are to the front. 3. Basic things like writing transfer to all of us, but handwriting varies a little bit. Typing and texting are also in this category. Hope that helps :)
@thediscordsystem4026
@thediscordsystem4026 5 лет назад
It's really interesting to hear that you perceive sounds and music differently which reflects in your playing, and that Mia doesn't feel inclined to the piano at all. We actually experience a similar thing with drawing - we all prefer using different tools, use them in different orders, have different methods of shading, etc.. So I guess that the alters of the majority of osdd-1b and DID systems are able to use most of the learned skills in a way that suits them or they consider to be the best they can do. Oh, I think I get what you mean by the second point! Sometimes our way of speaking/gesticulation/body temperature/... accustoms to the alter who is close to the front even though somebody else is fronting or we sort of switch between multiple alter's postures and personalities when we're co-front. The variety of our handwritings most likely depends on how long the alter has been in the system and how developed their personality is. A lot of us have quite distinct handwritings, but the newer alters seem to inherit the handwriting of the alters who created them, so I'm assuming that we develop our own writings the longer we front. The same with texting and typing - some of us write in more formal language that others; some use a lot of emoticons; for example I, Coraline, put exclamation marks to the sentence I want to emphasise; and so on. So according to our information, I suppose that the body of osdd-1b systems does accustom to the fronting alters, but it's limited to only certain muscles and their ability to change shape. For example, even if you yourself aren't capable of imitating some of your alter's body postures, your muscles are capable of doing so and the specific alters bring that out. However, switching dominant hand, changing the structure of eye muscles or not being able to feel any body temperature may be too complex and the body may not be capable of adjusting itself to these particular needs since all the other alters who are co-conscious don't need to use the body in that way. It's just a theory though, I would really like to see a study about this particual topic and the difference between DID and OSDD-1b systems. Thank you for replying so fast! It has certainly helped to hear a perspective of another system and to be able to compare how similar and different each of our symptoms are! ^^

I'm not sure if we experience switching headaches as I've always attributed the headaches we've gotten for decades to forgetting to drink water. I'll have to pay closer attention to see if switching creates or worsens them. What I have noticed is I almost always experience shivers when I switch to the front. Others have felt vision disturbances, like while the amount of the light in the room will remain the same, it's suddenly uncomfortably dim or bright. I also have similar posturing/throat feeling as you describe of Montana. Straight-backed, slightly raised back of the tongue and expansion of the soft palate, also with a lower resting jaw position. - Lilith

I too really get the head and face stuff - and i thought it was part of the post concussion syndrome, and i also have fibromyalgia - but i have noticed recently with observing my health patterns around when i am doing communication work - that the head sensations are so what i would call turned up loud that i want to shave my hair, i can't stand anything touching me-wearing a winter hat is murder. i know -basically as of this month that it's connected with the switching - my head feels like its covered with pins, i get 'instant exhaustion' then switch - fast body temp changes happen with it too.

Every switch we have depletes spoons (energy) for us...we end up *exhausted* after a day of rapid switching. Also, one of my headmates, Mana, doesn't use the facial muscles very much, and she holds herself with her shoulders higher than mine and just higher and more up-tight than I do.

I'm new to noticing when things are happening and I'm trying to work on better communication but one thing I have noticed is before Pan switches out I start to feel like I'm floating. It's an odd sensation, and other than it mess with my balance some it's not a bad sensation.

When we feel switchy we have pressures near our eyes and we try and associate it with where their room is in the inner world since the pressrure affects different eyes and makes us look in different directions

I get sensations of pressure in different parts of the body, from feet to thigh to arms and face/head. There is still a lot of secrecy among the system, so it's hard to tell who is taking control of what part of the body.

I recently found out im an osdd system (currently in denial) and when i switch i start to feel a headache, i have an alter called void that when she is about to front i feel the left side my temple start having pressure, its always the left side, when she fronts (which has only been 2 times) she grabs my ears to feel them and then grabs elf ears that i keep in one of my cardigans, she walks with hands by their side, which is something i dont do but she does. Void is the only one whos physically fronted and done things while in front, the others dont really seem comfortable enough to do that yet

im not sure if its just me jumping to conclusions, but for now, ill call my experience an alter. when i was doing research, i figured out that something made me heavily dissociate, so i went to go do it. but then i guess i switched? the sensation i remember was like, brain tingles, and an adrenaline rush. it was weird for sure, and i still dont understand it

We have the personal experience of phantom sensations when it comes to alters that might not be fully human, having things like tails and horns and wings and such. Whenever anyone with a tail is near front it’s like I (the host / shell) can feel it, but it’s not really there. The amount of times I’ve accidentally shut our protectors tail in doors is unquantifiable at this point 😅

Hi ! Thank you so much for all the information!! I have not been diagnosed but I do feel most of the things you are describing Sometimes my body moves on its own (?) Sometimes I get a different posture as the one you are talking about I (think? I ) have heard voices talking to each other in my head , but only when I am dozing of to sleep BUT I have never achieved direct communication ( twice my hands started writing on their on ) Does this sound familiar ? And do you have any advice as yo how to make my alters come forward to me ? ( Besides writing notes )
@TheRingsSystem
@TheRingsSystem 5 лет назад
Yes, it does sound a bit familiar for us - other than writing notes, I would normally suggest listening to music specific alters like to try to trigger a switch. Because you haven't met them yet (if they end up existing) I don't have too much advice other than write notes and try to be patient and keep an eye on your life. :)

Something that helps me is to try to allow myself as many positive experiences as possible in the present. If the present is a safe and enjoyable place, and you are accepting of them, alters will want to be here. Do you feel an urge to buy hot chocolate mix, even though you don’t feel like you need it? You may have an alter who likes hot chocolate mix. Having it in the house will let them know they are welcome and that you value them. If you find yourself wanting a necklace that only a child would wear, it may be a child alter longing for it. Buy it - they will want to come and enjoy their necklace. You may want to watch cartoons. I found myself feeling a need to keep a box of red jello powder in the house. I never made the jello. I just felt better having it. Months later, an alter surfaced who enjoyed eating jello powder as a kid. Drawing helps because some alters may be unable at first to write or speak. Watching RU-vid videos, whichever ones you feel drawn to. Not shutting them out when they need to share trauma memories. And, the thing that helped me MOST was watching RU-vidrs with DID. I could FEEL parts of me listening in the background. It let them know they could come. Love and accept whoever comes. They are you, they are all valid, and they have their reasons.💗

Could breathing issues when I wake up from sleeping be because an alter is coming out? At times, I have woken up from a very deep sleep and it feels like I am suffocating!! I know I was strangled with belts when I was a child!! I wonder if that is triggering for me!! This video was very helpful though!! I have had horrible migraine headaches with Aura but today, it was just an ongoing headache all day and it is excruciatingly painful today!!! 💔😔
@TheRingsSystem
@TheRingsSystem 4 года назад
That does sound triggering for you!! It could be because an alter is switching, but as you said, it's triggering for you - so it might be a somatic/bodily flashback. I would 100% bring this up with a therapist if you're able. I also recommend the book "the body keeps the score' on bodily processing of trauma ❤️

I have a question I used to have something like a system when i was nine now that im older i used to think nothing of it because a year after having such i was told to stop it since im a "big girl" now so i have to stop talking to myself like that so i stopped and ignored my alters at the time and began suppressing them because i was told to Its been quite a while and i was told that i possibly have OSDD now and its been so long sense i supressed my alters for so long and i learned they can die I was able to reach out to my first ever alter aggrith and i feel the others presence but I don't know what to do i haven't switched in a while and i went into a form of a dissociative episode earlier i don't know why but was it possibly me switching yet failing possibly i only learned this disorder existed a month ago and i don't fully understand but im panicking because i don't know if any of them died and such and im trying to look for answers but im unable to find any so im going to the community itself can you please help me?

None of them will die, even if they act like it. Sometimes people with very good communication in their system will revive "dead" alters. They're dissociated parts of one traumatized person and can lash out at themselves or other alters with the intention of protecting the body and mind

The main problem Im having at the moment is that I dont seem to be switching, or having amnesia gaps ( i think ) I don't really have crystal clear memory of my days, but not hour long chunks of memory suddenly disappearing, sure that has happened, but I could still recall somethings And the switching, I do think it happens, but Im always kind of me, llike I dont black out. So I can notice it it by a change is speech, mood, behaiviour, interest, not want to listen to a song or show that I would die for, etc. And I have kind of talked to myself, what felt like I was talking to someone else, since I was a kid So that leads me to believe I don't have DID, or Im faking it, But I also think I have did, Im just very very confused to be honest

It might help to do some identity based grounding: Identity-Based grounding techniques (used during blurry moments) -Usually asking and answering self-based questions: What kind of music do I like? What is my favorite color? How old am I? Where do I live? What is my name? What is something I care about? Who is someone close to me? Do I like hot chocolate?
