Today I'm sharing a more in-depth video on exfoliation, specifically the difference between physical, chemical & enzymatic exfoliation! In this video I talk about what the difference actually is between the different forms of exfoliation, what ingredients to look for, what ingredients to avoid & what method might the best for you depending on your skin type! I also shared some popular products from each category & talk a little bit about plastic microbeads and why they're bad! This video has been highly requested so I hope you enjoy & find it helpful!

Sari. You talk in complete sentences and paragraphs and everything you speak can be a perfectly structured written article. You sound logical and your logic is sound, your words are precise and statements persuasive, not full of pseudoscientific bull****. People, this is what a good education can do for you: language has power when used effectively, and knowledge makes it sound easy.

I'm watching this video after your Drunk Elephant review. Thanks for being so informative! I didn't even realise there were different types of exfoliating. I stopped physically exfoliating my skin yeaaaars ago after I realised it was making my eczema and sensitive skin even worse. I think maybe I was over exfoliating, or using products that were too harsh. I am excited to give chemical exfoliating a try :)

I do have to say that your hair looks gorgeous and for the most part the information on this video is pretty accurate, except for the aging process which it won’t be reversed by exfoliating but per sure exfoliating helps regenerate the skin and if it’s a chemical exfoliation it will target other issues such as hyperpigmentation. Thanks for your valuable info, specially for those of which don’t know much about the difference about exfoliants. It’s good that you talk about a few products that people might be familiar with and easy to approach (supermarkets, pharmacies and department stores) thanks for taking your time and been thorough with valuable info.
@SariReanna
@SariReanna 5 лет назад
Of course it won't *reverse* the aging process but it will help slow it down & prevent premature signs of aging and just help your skin age better overall.

What sunscreen do you use daily?? And how do you reapply and maintain it throughout the day? Especially in summer
@SariReanna
@SariReanna 6 лет назад
I use the Paula's Choice Redness Relief moisturizer with SPF 30 most days, I've also been using a sunscreen from Avene and the Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte SPF this summer. I don't wear makeup most days so I just reapply sunscreen like normal, when I am wearing makeup I use an SPF mist like the Supergoop SPF 50 Setting Spray or Zinc It Over. I use them sometimes even when I'm not wearing makeup if I've been swimming or I just don't feel like layering on more product because they're light.

that was helpful. I have just been given some samples of Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant & milkfoliant and wasn't sure about them and have now looked up properly and see that they have enzyme qualities, tho the milkfoliant for sensitive skin has oats as a scrub. I wasn't sure about using everyday. Have just tried, tentatively, drunk elephant sample of Powerpeptide Resurf Serum, in the evenings & not every day, and no reaction and flaky forehead not flaky anymore! But so expensive...

This video was soooo helpful. I've been looking into getting an exfoliator and didn't know where to start. I use the clarisonic, but I feel like I need to use something more. I've been tossing and turning between the glow tonic and the good genes, as I want a chemical exfoliator. My cleanser does contain a small amount of lactic acid in it - do you think the good genes on top of this will be too much Lactic Acid?

I’m 37, and actually quite new to skin care, I was an avid Clinique 3 steps user for many years. Recently I bought the Clarisonic brush and am using it quite faithfully each day/several times a day. I’ve seen great results from it when I combine it with Paula’s Choice Resist Skin care line, that includes the toner you discussed. But I’m a bit concerned now about using my Clarisonic after listening to your video. Have you tried/reviewed this brush?

Thank you for the extremely informative video! After watching your video, I'd like to incorporate some sort of enzymatic exfoliation but I'm wondering if you could help me on when I'd incorporate it in my current skincare routine? I have combination skin (more oily than dry). For exfoliation, I use Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Night Serum on Monday, then dermarolling on Thursday, then Oz Naturals Retinol serum the next Monday. Basically I'll interchange between the two. I'll occasionally use a physical exfoliant, but rarely. Thank you for your help!

So I would definitely consult with your doctor, but as far as I know, AHA is safe to use but BHA/salicylic acid isn't. I believe enzyme based products are fine since they don't penetrate the skin.

I noticed you listed the Sr Ives apricot scrub in your video. Please understand you should not use any Sr Ives products, specially their apricot scrub. The apricot scrub is too harsh for anyone’s skin because it is the consistency of sand and shells, and will severely dry out your skin and give it texture problems gradually over the course of about a year. The exofoliation particles in the scrub are too big for our faces skin but okay for our body’s once in a blue moon. There’s no gel or hydrating parts or base for that matter in the Sr Ives scrub. So it WILL dry and change the texture of anyone’s skin for this reason. It is 100% dry formula which is not really that good. I am saying this from experience, I thought I had dry skin but I actually have normal skin. The reason why I thought I had severely dry skin was because I’ve been using the Sr Ives scrub once or twice a week since I was about 12 years old. I am now 20. When I was beginning to use the scrub I thought wow my skin looks beautiful, soft, and glowy even! But recently I have found it to be ultra dry and have some texture problems. My esthetician and dermatologist warned me it was because of this scrub and it’s true. Ever since I have eliminated it from my skin care regimen, I’ve yet to have a problem with my skins oil consistency or overall texture. I hope this helps you and your other viewers.

Trust me, when you have a rash all over your face and it finally goes away, you’re gonna be very happy about physical exfoliation.

What type of exfoliants are good for when you’re on accutane ?
@SariReanna
@SariReanna 6 лет назад
I would avoid products with AHA since accutane already makes your skin photo sensitive. My personal favourite on accutane (and still) was the Bioderma Sebium Purifying Exfoliating Gel. It's physical but it also has salicylic acid in it, I got a ton of blackheads on my nose while my skin was purging at the beginning and it really helped.

Good afternoon! Do you know of any organic/natural masks that have all 3 forms?
@SariReanna
@SariReanna 5 лет назад
The closest would be the Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask, but finding a product that utilizes all 3 forms that’s also natural is going to be hard. I don’t know of any that fit all of those requirements.

@@SariReanna Thanks so much for replying! And yeah, I read the ingredients for the PTR mask, and I didn't like them at all. But again, thanks for replying and trying to help. One more thing: I know BHA's are good for oily skin, but would you have any idea about which AHA would be the best?

Okay I’m confused 😬 you said toner a couple times... this isn’t a toner is it?
@SariReanna
@SariReanna 5 лет назад
Not sure what you mean specifically, but toners can be a form of chemical exfoliation?
@kristacates9064
@kristacates9064 5 лет назад
Ooo okay I did not know that I thought they were separate but really it comes down to the ingredients? So I should use my toner 1-2 times a week? Or am I just making this more confusing than it has to be lol
@SariReanna
@SariReanna 5 лет назад
Yeah it depends on the ingredients if they have a chemical exfoliation aspect. Most toners are meant to be used daily, but I'd just refer to the directions on the package.

No offence but what are your qualifications, the information seems legit but where are your sources, how do you know these things are as you say they are since you seem to be talking about the science behind it

I worked in cosmetics/skincare for a few years and was trained by dozens of brands. I've also done a lot of my own research!

Hi. I have a specific issue. I have terrible allergies and always have rough and textured skin on my nose from using so many tissues. Any advice on that? Sensitive skin in general. Thanks 💖

The ordinary squalene. It also works on eczema, dry hands, cuticles and really dry skin

Use Puffs brand tissues with lotion. It makes a difference so your nose won't get so raw.

I have bad allergies as well and have never had texture issues on my nose but I usually just make sure to keep it moisturized with Vaseline or some kind of oil like almond oil
