Great video M8 as a new grad who has worked in a hospital and a private practice I definitely recommend working for a private practice as you can negotiate pay based on production. Seeing more patients should always = more pay. I began working in a private practice seeing 20 patients a day and now see close to 50-60 a day. My salary has grown by $65k in 4 months. Patient satisfaction plays a huge role as well. Great video overall. Subscribed 👌🏾👌🏾

All of April and this month we've been back up towards normal ER volumes. I did have reduced hours last year but have been back to my base amount of hours since March 2021(?). Than you so much for sharing this. I am Currently as pre-pa student. Can you please advice how we are able to match into residency?? Is there really an opportunity for pa's to get into this high paying specialties. Thanks.
@mr.sirhoffer5553
@mr.sirhoffer5553 2 года назад
PA's do not have a residency. Typically, we go through a year-long clinical rotation where we spend about 5 weeks each in all the main areas (familyx2, internal med, emergency med, pediatrics, OB/GYN, psych, gen surgery, and a couple electives). Your electives are the chance to see these specialties like dermatology, orthopedics, CT surgery, etc. Once you graduate and pass the PANCE, you can technically work in any area you want, but most specialties will usually require some general practice experience (like 3-5 years)...sometimes not, I know a lot of new grads that get into a specialty from having a good elective rotation experience (rotations are like 5-week long job interviews). I also know PAs that got into a specialty that was not one of their elective rotations...so if you didn't have a certain specialty as an elective, you can still work in that specialty. You can also choose to switch between practice areas at any time....so say if you were an orthopedic surgery PA for 5 years, and wanted to switch to CT surgery...you can absolutely do that. One of the beauties of being a PA vs. an MD.

Not a video on school but I am interested in becoming a Physician assistant and have to start from nothing at 40. My school I am looking inti is Loma Linda and I have been in contact with them to see if my 14 years as a Psych tech would count as experience and yes it does. I asked if they would accept a degree from WGU and they will so I signed up for the Health science B.S program and it has some of the science courses in it but they are P/F and I was going to take A&P 1 and 2, Chem 1 and 2, and Micro at whatever college I can but will this be seen as repeating a course? I start WGU June 1st and also Biology online that is a prereq for Anatomy at my local college and should not count against me because Biology is not a prereq for Loma Linda just to get me into Anatomy. Will it give a good impression to the school if I get the requirements done fast. I love science and read the PDR and Taber's for fun as well as watch science lectures on RU-vid so not saying I'm smart only it's fun for me. English is the course I am worried about most as I write what comes to mind without any goal in writing (obviously this illustrates this I know)

I am really thinking about either a physician assistant or medical doctor. The physician assistant looks more appealing because of the time frame of not spending my life in medical school and residency, etc. The physician assistant program is only 3 years versus 4 years med school, then a 3 to 7 year residency. Either way, tough decision. I also like the medical doctor side of things because I get to make the ultimate decision. Time will tell what I want to do.

@@tarimo3241 IDK. I have a Bachelor's degree (4 years down)7 more to go. 4 years med school, then residency. This summer going for the post bacc program to brush up on science courses. A lot to think about. Haven't decided yet, leaning towards PCP.

This might be really crazy and un heard of but is it possible for a CRNA to become a PA down the line or vice versa to get the best of both world? Meaning the flexibility to work in what ever field as PA but specialize in Anesthesiology with the CRNA pay 😅 that pay is outstanding as a new grad for CRNA but I want the flexibility in the PA field.
@bettysmith4527
@bettysmith4527 2 года назад
You would have to go through both programs, and that would be a lot of schooling, you might as well become an MD at that point!
@IslemTav
@IslemTav 9 месяцев назад
You might as well become an anesthesiologist MD. To become a CRNA, you need your bachelors in Nursing, then at least a year of ICU experience, CCRN certification, GRE (some require it), then apply for CRNA school, which is highly competitive. Maybe you can go from there to PA school, since you’ll have patient care hours taken care off. But you may need to take prereqs again, depending on where you go.

My son who is a senior in high school is thinking about going for BSN. I would love for him to go for NP or PA. But he says he doesn't want to be in school forever. Can you pursue a pa program with a bsn. Or will that just make the journey longer if he decided to go that route after bsn?
@bettysmith4527
@bettysmith4527 2 года назад
Carol, yes! I am a paramedic, and a BSN prepared RN and I am thinking about PA school. He may have to take a small amount of extra science classes, but the BSN will work just fine. Since PA school requires some healthcare experience he could work a year or so as a nurse while taking the extra science classes, and most hospitals will even pay for those if he works as a nurse full time. NP, in my opinion, is not a good route! The education is low quality now, with the goal of just pumping out as much students (money) as they can, schools even make NP students find their own preceptors which is ridiculous! NP programs are also very focused, thus the PA provides a broader, medical based education, which in my opinion is far superior to the NP programs. The only advantage is NPs are allowed to practice without physician oversight in some states, while PAs cannot. With that being said, I do not think any mid level provider should be practicing without physician oversight, but that is just my opinion! Mid level providers should be an adjunct to physicians, and not a replacement! Just be warned nursing can be a miserable, draining, intolerable profession!! If he has interests outside of healthcare, I highly recommend pursuing something else like computer science or engineering!

I don't want this to sound offensive, but are these physician assistants actually performing brain surgery and heart surgery, or at least some of it? Or acting as an anesthesiologist? MDs need to go to 4 years of medical school after university, then do a 3 year residency, and then a few years in a fellowship, whereas PAs do a 2-year program after college. I know some PAs are amazing. One of the best "doctors" I've had was a PA, but on average, I'm not sure I'd feel as comfortable going in for brain surgery performed by a 24 year old fresh out of his PA program.

I mean without traveling a lot and with regular schedules (as per John, 32-40 hrs/week), hence not including overtime, they're making over 100k 🤷‍♀️ I'm a PTA, worked 2 jobs in FL and roughly made $70k a year. But why stay as a PTA when I can become a PA, work less hours and make so much more? lol I'm sure I can also make more if I do traveling, but would you really do that as a lifetime commitment? That's just me.
