Hey! I'm John. I'm a certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) practicing in emergency medicine.

This RU-vid channel tries to bridge medicine and those in healthcare with wealth & finance topics. My videos range from investment topics, budgeting, cars, and real estate to contract negotiations and job market saturation. I try to balance these with pre-PA subjects for those interested in becoming a Physician Assistant.

My goal is for you to succeed both professionally and financially. We're on this journey together.

Subscribe to my channel for updates on new videos and make sure to hit that notification bell!

Please note, the content and opinions expressed in my videos are my own and are not necessarily shared or endorsed by my employers or universities. Likewise, none of my content should be misconstrued as medical or investment advice.

Amazing resources! If I apply before passing the PANCE without hearing back, should I apply again to the same places after I’m certified?

Good day boss… can I move into us right from Nigeria with my physiology degree certificate and further into pa school without repeating college in the USA… I mean I can I just use my physiology bsc degree certificate from Nigeria to process into the pa school in the us? Please enlighten
@JohnThePA

Congrats on the degree. You must apply through CASPA for PA programs. If accepted, you'll need an F1 visa to study in the US. Do you have any patient care experience, another significant process component?

Thanks man, I’ve been having trouble figuring out how to find jobs. Indeed just wasn’t cutting it tbh.

Yeah, Indeed looks great on paper, but then you hear nothing back from any of the leads. Sometimes, I think it's best to aggregate employers from there and then go directly to their websites. Hopefully, the video gave you some more options & thanks for commenting :)

Where are these jobs? The 2 ER jobs I’ve had I was paid $50/hr plus incentives, could go up to $70/hr. My current job I make $68/hr base rate.
@JohnThePA
@JohnThePA 2 дня назад
I used each job change to incrementally increase my wage. I negotiated more and even got decent benefits with this one. If you are at $68/hr base and decide to change jobs would you settle for less than $68? Not likely unless the other aspects of the job were much nicer. Use your current $68 as leverage to ask for $75-85/hr or more at a new location if it’s possible in your area. Also helps to know that PAs are doing ER locums work at $110-130/hour and the physicians are making 3-4x or more of your current wages. It’s not cheap to staff an ER and you’re seeing 16-20+ patients a shift, that has value. Those copays alone would pay for all your services and then some lol
@MrJZNICA
@MrJZNICA 2 дня назад
@@JohnThePA watching your videos inspired me to take the plunge into locums. I’m starting my first gig at $120/hr with 2 years experience ( 3 years in April 2025). Thanks for sharing your experiences and being open!

Glad you are sharing the benefit of your experience; these are important insights. Re: simple first aid and home care for minor illnesses, I learned first aid from some Red Cross courses in elementary school, and learned about taking care of illnesses from my mom. But if someone wasn't fortunate enough to grow up learning this stuff, nowadays there are vast resources to learn from instantly--we have free advice nurse hotlines, tons of reputable web sites (though sadly, it seems like a lot of people don't distinguish between medical experts and quacks), and even ChatGPT--so I can't see any excuse for showing up to the ER for something minor instead of just looking up what to do about it.

Hi John, I appreciate the quality and very informative videos as always. I’m finishing up undergrad and starting PA school next June. I’m just curious from your perspective: what are the major benefits of being a PA compared to an MD? More specifically, what are the most influential positives/negatives that have you have noticed &/or directly impacted you in your ER position? I’m currently working as a PCT in a hospital and am hearing many great things about being a PA, and since it’s the route I’m heading I want to be more definitive (closer to 100% although I know that may not be realistic in all cases) in my decision to choose this path over MD since I’ve been having some recent conflicting thoughts

Im a new grad NP. I work in the ER as a nurse. I want to do urgent care as an NP as well. I’m looking for a place where I can get the best training possible and 3 day work week. Most places I’ve seen are only offering a couple of weeks of training. I’d love to find one offering 6-12 months. Where are those?
