My favourite factoid about The Line is that they claim it's better for the environment than a traditional city... now I'm no big city expert, but I think building 200 mile long, hundred metre high wall directly through the desert is gonna impact more than a few animals. Forget roasting them with sunlight, as that's not a major concern, think about migratory patterns, think about how animals that live in deserts need to travel long distances. Luckily I doubt it will make it far, since nobody would really want to live in that dystopian hellscape anyway(I'm talking about The Line, not talking smack about any countries).
@purplefood1
@purplefood1 Год назад
Also the displacement of the local humans who have lived there for generations all for the sake of a mad billionaire vanity project that would make most dystopias look good.
@conorstewart2214
@conorstewart2214 Год назад
I think it is ~170 miles long, 200 metres wide and 500 metres high. It will absolutely affect the animals and probably people too. Then there is the ethical concern, they are sentencing people to death or shooting them if they refuse to be evicted, they are also evicting them with no compensation until the buildings are appraised after they are demolished, so chances are that means they will get almost nothing. They are getting as little as 24 hours notice to pack their things and leave and are viewed and branded as criminals, drug addicts or having diseases, its even worse for undocumented migrants apparently. The whole thing is completely unethical and against the, "UN Basic Principles and Guidelines on Development-Based Evictions and Displacement", I would hope the UN steps in soon and makes sure it is done the right way.
@conorstewart2214
@conorstewart2214 Год назад
@@purplefood1 With no compensation until the buildings are appraised after demolition. Also with as little as 24 hour notice. Apparently some only found out they were being evicted because they went outside and the word "evicted" was spray painted on everyones houses, then they shut the electricity off a day later. What worse is they are sentencing people protesting it, to death or in some cases shooting them. I hope the UN or similar steps in soon, they are violating these peoples rights, essentially kicking them out, with nothing, and state media is branding them as criminals, drug addicts and being diseased, to try and get people to view them poorly and make it seem justified.

To say nothing about what it will do to local air currents. which we now know is what caused the sahara to form in the first place. Yes... black hole generators are a real theoretical thing. They surround the thing in mirrors and shoot a laser in it, they then abuse the whole time/space distortions to make power... somehow.
@onerxowns2202
@onerxowns2202 Год назад
By the power OF KRAKEN OFCOURSE!!!
@mobiuscoreindustries
@mobiuscoreindustries Год назад
I mean one of the easier way is to essentially use the black hole to convert mass into energy. Black holes like most objects in the universe are spinning. By adding mass to them, they spin faster, and by shooting light around them, making it bounce around within it's ergosphere, you can essentially "steal" some of that rotational energy to increase the energy level of your photons which you then extract for power. Black hole generators therefore would essentially be gigantic mass conversions engine, turning worthless things into energy based on their mass.
@MultiKeto
@MultiKeto Год назад
far easier ...just throw stuff into them no mirror laser needed. better then fusion.
@mobiuscoreindustries
@mobiuscoreindustries Год назад
@@MultiKeto I mean you need both a means of keeping the black hole in place and extract energy from it. You get some energy in the form of radiation escaping the black hole and whatever plasma it turned what you threw into it, but unless you are keeping it on the verge of annihilation via hawking radiation you aren't going to get much or at least not very efficiently or in a controlled way
@MultiKeto
@MultiKeto Год назад
@@mobiuscoreindustries you don't need to extract energy from the blackhole itself. if you throw stuff into it about 6%-42% of the mass gets coverted into energy that you can use. we would create an artifical accretion disk around the blackhole. the range of the convertion is based on the rotations speed.

A good number of radioactive materials actually produce antimatter during decay. As I'm sure you know, bananas are radioactive, but what you might not know is the potassium-40 responsible for their radioactivity actually produces positrons during its decay. So basically if you have a banana sitting around, you have access to antimatter production. Most of the facilities dedicated to antimatter related business are more used for collection and storage.

The line is hilarious because its basically a death ray in the making BUT honestly looks like a fantastic idea, a self contained mega city in a line that requires no imports and uses natural methods to keep the temperature regulated and the air clean. Now... IS it going to work? Probably not but I hope it actually does, that way we can use the idea and NOT use reflective materials because for what it is, it seems effective.

using a black hole for power generation is surprisingly possible, by bouncing mass or light into the hole and harvesting the hawking radiation (the smaller the black hole the more power/the closer to a bomb it is). If anyone's interested, I'd recommend Isaac Arthurs videos called: "Black Hole Ships" or "Civilizations at the End of Time: Black Hole Farming". It's a fascinating topic :)

@@foxalpha09 A static non spinning black hole cannot exist because stars spin. Because of angular momentum, the speed of spinning becomes faster the smaller it becomes. So when it collapses into a black hole, it spins thousands, even millions of times per second. We use Schwarzschild black holes (static, not spinning or a low rpm) in equations because it makes them easier.

A pitstop on the moon is a bad idea for a few reasons. For one, it would be a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the way to wherever we're trying to get to. It'd be like leaving home, stopping at a hotel at the edge of your hometown for a break, then continuing across the country non-stop. A pit stop on the edge of the solar system would be better. For two, it moves. That pit stop could be in the opposite direction of where we're going. Yes, it's not as simple as a straight line, but it can still be in a far less than ideal location. For three, ANY kind of pitstop would use up precious fuel, both landing and taking off, whilst also wasting time.

Eve is no gas giant, it is an equivalent to Venus albeit its gravity is 1.7x that of Earth (or Kerbin) instead of only 95% and its atmo is 'only' 5 times as dense. It is still a boss to vanquish in the game because getting off Eve's surface is very difficult, especially from sea level. About the complex ressources chains, those are mods. The only ressource in the stock game is ORE, plain and simple. Gilly is Eve's only moon and by its non spherical shape is merely a captured asteroid (but considered as a moon for game mechanics) The game always had problems with surface bases, landing legs and wheels from the start, leading to catastrophic results on launching a scene.

"Why haven't we built bases on the moon?" Can of worms being opened there. 1. Cost -- bloody expensive. 2. Reason - There wasn't a good one. 3. Tech -- Surviving in space and creating food and resources in space is bloody hard. Especially when that far away. 4. Health -- We've made some advancements in recent years and some preliminary research is promising that we can reduce bone degradation, muscle weakness, and DNA damage. Perhaps even space herpes. ^ Not a joke
@mobiuscoreindustries
@mobiuscoreindustries Год назад
Cost and reason are honestly the two main ones. Mainly because states care little about the cost of they have a reason to either beat someone or enrich themselves (and space is unfortunately low on the bribery list), and private companies can conjure a reason out of anything that can make a profit, but generating the needed cash is borderline impossible for them. When it comes to tech, the thing is it's not that the tech is that hard, comparatively. rather that just like the mission itself, no one is actually forking the resources to make it happen unless it's needed. Tech needed to survive in space also saves us from the energy crisis down on earth and that is seen as a problem by the current power providers as a dangerous source of disruption, mainly because everyone with an ounce of knowledge in the matter keeps coming back to advanced nuclear reactors as a solution. And as for health it's about the same reason as tech, mainly because just like energy, solving the health problem also puts in jeopardy the current health industry's bread and butter.

If you traveled at light speed, wouldnt u just disintegrate? thinking that its the light/electrons etc itself that keeps us together. and also if two opposite objects go away from each other at half the speed of light at opposite directions, wouldnt that count as the speed of light since if ur able to measure the speed, it would read as the speed of light since ur moving at the speed of light away from each other?
@mobiuscoreindustries
@mobiuscoreindustries Год назад
Well matter by definition would not be able to exceed the speed of light. It can get infinitely close but by law of math you can't actually reach that speed if you have any mass. As a result a whole product being set to move at this speed could remain cohesive... Somewhat See, due to the way velocity and mass interacts with time, as you approach that speed, time effectively slows down as every interactions that happen take longer to have any effect due to time dilatation. As a result traveling at near light speed would essentially freeze time for the vessel until you somehow slow down. Something which could cause major issues since the time between clock cycles on the computers that could engage the slowdown could be literally be hundreds of thousands of years appart. So if you fuck up your timing you may miss your target by a sizable margin.
