Among all the scary things you can find out, I think what got me the more frightened is the concept of bubble nucleation (false vacuum decay). That’s probably the most dangerous and scary thing ever.
@XiaoYueMao
@XiaoYueMao Год назад
yep, eats the universe at the speed of light, physics itself breaks down and changes inside, and you cant enter or leave it, in theory many of these bubbles may exist in our universe but as we expand faster than light they will never become an issue to us unless it occurs close by, ive always thought maybe the "big bang" was just the formation of this bubble inside another universe, with our current physics being the jumbled physics of another, and bubbles in our universe being another universe itself, so on and so forth
@DimitriSabadie

Been a fan of Kurzgesat for a few years now and I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel. Kurzgesat's got a lot of fun and fascinating videos, but it's nice to actually have someone who can go a bit deeper on some of the subjects and explain them a bit more. As Kurzgesat said themselves in this video: there's a lot of things to gloss over. And to be fair that's what "In A Nutshell" means: a simplified explanation. So I like being able to listen to someone knowledgeable go a bit more in depth on the things discussed in the videos.

How about phase transition? I think phase transition is the most dangerous thing. That is, a spontaneous formation of a bubble in space, within which the laws of physics are different than the rest of the universe (because what we call a normal state of space or spacetime, might actually not be the most stable quantum vacuum state and space somewhere might spontaneously transition to a more stable state). Once formed, this bubble will start expanding with the speed of light, transforming every part of space that its surface passes through, including matter and energy in it, into space with different laws of physics and thus changing any material structure there into something irrecognizable. We could never see it coming, no matter how close it is, because its front will be moving at the speed of light and would hit us before we receive any information about it...

What's more dangerous Strange Matter or the human being that eventually figures out how to weaponize it. Example, cobalt 59 I am told is relatively safe except when you wrap it around a thermonuclear device. If I understand correctly in the milliseconds of the nuclear detonation the cobalt 59 is turned into Cobalt 60 which is incredibly Radioactive with a half life of about five and a half years. And no I didn't steal that from Doctor Strange love, that was Cobalt thorium G. Thanks and thumbs up.

When we calculate the mass of a galaxy? Do we have a way to measure the energy within the system as well as the matter, or mass? According to the theory of relativity, e=mc^2, energy in a system can affect the mass. Is it possible the loose energy in the system could account for the missing mass we credit to dark matter?

13:40 I don't think that's right. It's a naked singularity because you can escape it at sub-light speeds, so light can escape and you can see it. They don't pull things in faster than light, because that would just be a normal black hole.
@DylanJDance
@DylanJDance Год назад
It's definitely not right 😂 With current understanding, all predictability is lost and thus we can't understand how they'd behave (at all) - I'm sure you got all this. If they exist, they're like points where physics doesn't make sense, because we have no theory that can explain - anything goes! Note, the singularity should still have infinite density, infinite mass, infinite this and that (as it is a singularity).

Doesn't special relativity forbid infinite densities? And isn't it the case that general relativity cannot defy rules special relativity outlines? Therefore a singularity cannot be infinitely dense, therefore black holes as described, do not exist. As in, an infinitely dense point mass singularity with event horizon doesn't exist, because infinite densities can't exist.

13:38 The gravitational "pull" of regular singularities is infinitely strong as well, inside the event horizon. It wouldn't be any different for a naked singularity, they dont have "infinite gravity" any different than a normal BH. At that point all geodesics point towards the singularity which means there is no path you can take at any energy level that would allow you to move anywhere except closer to the singularity. Forwards, backwards, up and down lose all meaning as do forward or backwards in time since space and time get infinitely curved inside the horizon. 13:42 This too already happens with regular black holes. This limit is broken at the event horizon (of solar mass black holes). The reason is that space itself is flowing to the singularity at speeds greater than c. This is the second reason that not even light can escape black holes. All paths point to the singularit and space itself is moving faster than c. So no you dont need infinite energy to do that, just infinite density. How you miss this stuff as a phd candidate in astrophysics is beyond me
