They just need a mini F attachment on the piccolo trombone to get those last two positions. Easy Peasy 👍

I think the basic problem here is that it's Chinese Junk. I don't even see them on eBay anymore. I think it may be possible to have a proper Piccolo Trombone with 7 positiions. The trouble with the Soprano and Piccolo Trombones is nobody makes a proper mouthpeice, and they end up sounding like slide trumpets instead of high-pitched trombones. I understand the guy behind Parduba mouthpiece spent a lot of time researching, designing, and testing Soprano mouthpieces, but gave up. Maybe larger bore Sopranos and Piccolo trombones need to be built, but there's no advantage if it ends up sounding like a trumpet with a slide.
@helios5868
@helios5868 6 лет назад
Perhaps, but the *only* Piccolo Trombones I can find are Chinese. The idea is probably for it to be a collectors item over an instrument. Considering how rare the soprano trombone is, I don't think any one was clamoring for a piccolo version.
@adamschmidt546

TheBerkeleyGang well also it takes more ability of the player. Those types of high instruments' tones can really change depending on the player. Higher trombones can be quite useful in like say a trombone choir

Piccolo trombone needs a trigger! Many piccolo trumpets have a fourth valve to give extra range.
@tunedtoeb
@tunedtoeb 2 года назад
Yeah I believe there's only so much tubing on a piccolo one to use in the slide, since the typical trombone-shaped bell needs a bunch of that tubing already. Take tubing away from the bell area for a longer slide, and the bell will be virtually "pulled back" towards the rear bend of the instrument where a counterweight (for like tenors, etc.) would be. It would look weird and probably affect various things. So in order for the baby trombone here to have a somewhat normal looking bell it's forced to have that limited tubing available for the slide... by what I can tell. But tbh a trigger sounds like a pretty nice idea :) I think if the trigger allowed players to not need to go towards that last position often, that'll definitely help reduce the chances of popping the slide off with that one position's buffer. Avoids that problem like where a tenor trombone somehow needs to do a low E♭ w/o triggers (hopefully not), and it's sorta like the fact the tenor kinda *does* have that "8th" position when it's really just the slide about to fall off trying to play a low E♭ XD (no I'm no trombone expert but that's my thoughts lol)
@corkymork

+Trent Hamilton if you play a Bb on a tenor trombone it is not a concert C therefor, the tenor trombone is a C instrument not a Bb instrument.
@TrentHamilton
@TrentHamilton 9 лет назад
The tenor trombone plays in concert pitch when reading bass clef. The fundamental note of the instrument, however, is Bb. If the trombone was pitched in C, then the fundamental would clash with a Bb trumpet's fundamental - as it doesn't, then it proves that both instruments are in Bb. To be honest, I'm not sure if you are trolling. Because I've never encountered anyone previously who claimed that all tenor trombones are in C.

If I wanted the Piccolo Trombone to add two extra octaves to my Trombone sections iconic song Peppered Pork at our football games and pep rally's. The songs high playing melody is only is 3rd and first position. So would you think the instrument would be worth the investment? I don't want the Sopranno one because that sounds alot like a Trumpet and I don't want the Trumpet players asking to be part of the song for the composer of it said, strictly, only Trombone instruments are allowed to play it.

Depends on how large it is. His trombone was a tenor with an F attachment. The other version of a tenor trombone is a straight tenor (meaning it doesn’t have the F attachment). The only difference between the two is that the straight horn isn’t fully chromatic between the pedal tone Bb and the Bb on the staff. They both have (roughly) the same range and are pitched in Bb. If your instrument is pitched in Bb, it is a tenor. If it is pitched in Eb, then it is an alto.

Are you saying that the Bb on top the staff is played like that when read? I'm not sure that is correct since the notation would stay the same thus, so would the frequency. I mean a Bb above the staff will always be Bb3 in bass clef. It wouldn't change between instruments. Unless you mean that the range is generally centered around Bb3 for tenor, Bb4 for soprano, and Bb5 for piccolo. Then that would make sense.
@TrentHamilton
@TrentHamilton 9 лет назад
The harmonic series of this trombone is two octaves higher than the harmonic series of a Tenor or Bass trombone, that's probably the best way to explain it.

@TrentHamilton
@TrentHamilton 9 лет назад
This video was just showing Bb trombones, the alto is in Eb, and fits between the soprano and tenor. I don't believe in the 'tenor-bass' trombone, because all tenor trombones and all modern bass trombones are in the same key - Bb. The only differences are in the bore size, and whether there are triggers or not. The worlds largest bore double trigger bass trombone with all the fittings still has the same fundamental pitch and amount of tubing as the smallest bore pea-shooter tenor trombone. The tenor-bass designation is a bit erroneous to me - a trombone is either one or the other.

When you play Endearing Young Charms on the piccolo trombone I start giggling. I can't help it. I've decided that the tenor with an F attachment is actually a baritone. The extra loop gives it more tubing than a tenor and it can play lower, so I'm assigning it to a new category.

That is most definitely a tenor trombone. Smaller bore, 8.5" bell. Bass trombones have larger bores, and generally have a bell size over 9.5" in diametre
@TheBerkeleyGang
@TheBerkeleyGang 9 лет назад
Sometimes called a "Symphonic Tenor." Comparable models: Conn 88H, Bach 42B, King 4B-F, etc. Typically a larger bore than a straight tenor. Bass Trombone will have larger bore, and usually 2 valve sections in the bell area.
@TrentHamilton
@TrentHamilton 9 лет назад
No, the number of triggers doesn't define a bass trombone. It's the bore and bell size. You can get a trombone with no triggers and have a 9.5" bell that is still a legitimate bass trombone.
@TheBerkeleyGang
@TheBerkeleyGang 9 лет назад
Without a trigger, it has to be pitched in F or Eb, and be proportionally bigger. Otherwise, you don't get the notes between E (below the staff) and BBb, critical for Bass Trombone music. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Types_of_trombone#Bass_trombone
@TrentHamilton
@TrentHamilton 9 лет назад
***** Bass trombones in Bb without triggers don't have much point these days, but they do exist. The difference between a tenor trombone and a bass trombone is the bore size, and the bell size. Nothing else. Both tenor and bass trombones can have triggers (although I've never seen a tenor trombone with two triggers), and both tenor and bass trombones can be straight.
