Please use as many actions as possible to save your back and legs so that you can do this for a long time in the future. Every strain and twist is a negative in your metric.

Agree with your advice. Put your loaded bags on a trolley and wheel them to wear you need them ie to the car etc.

Yes, I like the pick and pack videos, mainly because we learn what it selling for you. Especially things that sell quickly. Not everything translates to here in the US (such as Louis L'amour selling for so much) but still, it's very helpful. Thanks Mel!

I was going to suggest you put your phone on a lanyard so you don’t have to pick it up and put it down all the time. But then I realized the lanyard would have to be as long as your arm so you could still read your phone. 😂

@@backfromburnout I was thinking that a wristband phone holder might be helpful, like the ones they make for runners to hold their phone on their arm. They usually have a clear cover so you can still see and navigate the touchscreen. If you have it on your forearm, then you could pick and just hold your arm up (like if you were giving a high five to someone) to see the screen.

@@backfromburnoutBefore the word Charcuterie was a thing here in the U.S., since I was a kid in the 1970s, we would call it a cheese and cracker tray or platter and of course with other things like thinly sliced deli meats, grapes, strawberries and other pieces of sliced up fruits. And tell our party guests, “Here’s a platter (or tray) to snack on or graze until the main meal is served. Or just have a tray or platter out with plenty for everyone. Now I want to put together a cheese and cracker, with small appetizers to go with it and call my family and friends over for a fun get together! Lol.. It’s very hot and dry where I live in Central California and you’re wearing a hoodie. I can’t wait till summer is over. 😩

Suggested Tip } Get a Buggy from like Piggly Wiggly (the Smaller one with the 2 baskets) so it's easy to use and can get through the aisle BUT you can can use the front part (where women put their purses or mom's put their child) for your camera and photo. Mount the camera to the back rest. This would make it easier on ya.

It really helps me. And also each time I pick orders, I can see it so it’s just another reminder constantly about what’s selling fast or slow. It’s made me a better seller. Otherwise you can only see the date you listed it in the active listings on the desktop version. It’s not an easy visual reminder when it’s not in the SKU. Sometimes it feels like we just listed something but then when you look it’s like 9mths ago. It’s a good reminder to be buying faster moving inventory that keeps churning over.

I do this! I don’t trust eBay to not lose items and therefore SKU locations so I started using it for the upload date to see how long it took to sell, and also add in when I do price drops. I sell clothing 😄

@@happycowgirl32 it help when I’m using the phone app as I can see the date it was listed in the SKU when I send and receive offers. I also pick the books using the phone app and SKU so I mentally take note of how long things have taken to sell which helps me when I’m sourcing as I remember more if something was a fast or slow seller.

Hi Mel, when you do international shipping are there any countries you won’t ship to? I personally have only been choosing United Kingdom, USA, Canada, and New Zealand. I’m a bit concerned about being scammed from some of the other countries, although I know I can be scammed from anywhere . I just wondered what your thoughts were on this ? thanks babe. Mine is set worldwide. EBay automatically block some countries but otherwise I ship anywhere and haven’t had any issues. I only do 1-2 international a week and mostly they go to US

Consider getting a desk mounted table top 2” tape dispenser. You’re having to pick up the tape gun 3 times on one package in some instances. Works best mounted on the front edge of a table/ surface so that when you go to tear the tape you have plenty of clearance and don’t rake your knuckles across the jagged cutting edge. They generally come with mounting hardware however I found a heavy duty spring clamp found at most hardware stores works fine. I purchased mine from Amazon $ 25-35 range. You can thank me once you’ve discovered the time saving joy of only needing one hand to dispense a piece of tape.

HI Mel .... If I have any doubts in my mind about whether someone will return an item for not reading about the details on it ... after a customer buys something like that I would message them and let them know the details on it just incase they missed it. Then I would give them the chance to cancel the transaction rather then have them return it later. Usually people say it's what they want .. on occasion they realize they made a mistake buying the item and appreciate me doing that and keeping them from making a mistake.

I packed this last Sunday afternoon after lunch so it was the Friday night (I shipped Friday), Saturday and Sunday morning orders up until then ( so basically equivalent to 2 days of orders). The warehouses are quieter on a Sunday as the concreters are not there. Mondays it’s noisy so it was a great time to film.

It’s so hard to know as I juggle a few jobs between eBay, RU-vid etc. Some days I spend more time on RU-vid. Some days more on eBay. Today I spent about 20mins on eBay and that’s all! I don’t really track it. I work harder some days and rest more on others (actually I procrastinate more than rest LOL). But my brain is always wired with a million tabs open inside it.

Hi Mel, I just had a thought regarding the sizing of the bundles and the capacity of mailers. Since you are moving towards hiring help, and there is a steep learning curve, what would be helpful if you would make a template for each size of mailer (think the box you see at the airport measuring your carry-on luggage). So basically make a template for every size of mailer that anyone can use to see if a bundle would fit in a standard size mailer. This would be helpful for someone learning to put together bundles and also learning to register the post to see what size mailer is needed. This would solve the problem of you having to be on site to answer if every bundle constructed is the correct size and what size mailer is needed for posting. This would help someone get more competent faster than having to learn by eyeing it as I suspect is how you learnt it.

Ever considered vacuum sealing or shrink wrapping the entire book or group of books? After taking pictures etc. I do not know if this would be better or worse protection against moisture and critters? It could be worse. But I don't really know and figured you have the experience in keeping them stored properly.

I think that would use a lot of plastic, the books stay clean on the shelves. It's just the bundles I need to stay together so I wrap those in the plastic wrap.

The mailers are padded, water resistant and sturdy and I’ve never had feedback saying the corners or books are damaged in transit. I’ve sold thousands of books and it’s never an issue.

I noticed you don't 'bubble wrap' as you packed. Do you worry about damage that might occur during shipping?

They are padded mailers so have a layer of bubble wrap inside them. They’re strong and sturdy and I never get any complaints about books arriving damaged. I’ve sent thousands of books like this.

Yes it is expensive to send overseas and some of the books are very heavy so I do have higher international pricing just incase someone orders a very heavy book.

I was wondering at what point in the process you left eedback. Do you always use the same words, like a copy paste kind of thing? I enjoy videos like this one the most. It's interesting to see what people are buying and satisfying to watch you go through each order from beginning to end. Other than today's video where you placed books on the newly built shelves, do you have any system as to how you choose where to store them? Do you keep going with one shelf until it's full? How long of a commute to the warehouse do you have from your new residence? Take care~

I use a Dymo 4XL. You can only buy them second hand now. Be wary of buying the newer version 5XL because you can’t use generic labels in the newer version and the Dymo branded labels are very expensive.

I still can't get over how much more you can sell books for in Australia than what I can get in the US. On average, I would say you get $10 or more over what they'd go for here. Too many sellers underprice books and ruin it for the rest of us. Could the difference be due to a difference in the exchange rate?

We don’t have as much competition. Amazon I not that big yet for used books. eBay dominates the Australian pre owned book market.

I'm really enjoying your return to this style of content. Because sourcing opportunities are so specific to where we live/shop I'm not as keen on anyone's sourcing videos. I'm happy to let them play so you (and other content creators) get the views but I don't tend to watch them as such. I do miss your live streams, I used to really love and participate in those. Edited to add: I enjoy seeing what has sold and for what price. Where people order multiple books, I really enjoy seeing the combination of authors and/or genres they purchase.

Agreed. I rarely, if ever, watch the sourcing videos. I would rather be out sourcing myself than watching others do it. But that could just be me. They tend to get a lot of views, so it may just be us. 😂

I have been selling clothes on ebay for years. I am bored and want to try my hand at selling books. Any advice on how to get started?? I don't have any book fairs,or library sales. The thrift stores are to expensive!

It’s hard to sell items if they’re not easily accessible to you. I would definitely do some more research to what’s around you and where you will be able to source them.

Thank you. When I go to the post office I just wave hello to the staff and drop my bags near their staff door and go. I’m on great terms with the post office. They hold all my empty ikea bags for me until their next day or two and then when they see me they just get any of my empty bags they have and pass them across to me and then as soon as they have time they scan my parcels in. So I don’t have to wait. I just drop and run.
