My local junk yard has 4 obs trucks, now that's sad. keep at it and keep safe.

Badger bob they are becoming harder and harder to salvage nowadays! That’s for watching as always Bob!

That's a mighty fine lightning. Those very rare limited production. Call SVT division through ford and ask they for a vin verification and they will tell you what number it is in the collectable registry. the red and white trucks were harder to come by compared to the raven black trucks.

I appreciate it, still in the process of building her out and restoring her. 2020 kind of put a dent in those plans 😂 but I should be able to get close to what I want. I wish I could just leave it fairly stock but the 5 or 6 previous owners did a number on this classic so I'm almost starting from scratch but I have a great foundation to build on. White by far was the rarest since they only made them in 94 and 95 and I'd live to get my hands on one someday but red was always my favorite in these trucks and the 93 cobra's (plus my first truck was a red 93 f150 straight 6). I always dreamed of having this one though so I want to make sure I do it justice in the end. I did exactly that and called Ford racing (formerly Ford svt) and found out I own build #857 in the red from 1993. Such a cool piece of history I think. Once im closer to being done I'm going to order a reprint SVT certificate, just wish I still had the dealer sticker to go with it. Thank you so much for watching and commenting, it's been a while but u will update this build soon, currently working a ton so it will be April or May before I get a day off to start back

No fun striking out on parts 😔 I think some guys watch online and grab the good parts when the new arrivals get to the yards. Hopefully you can run across some of the parts you need soon buddy! 🙂👍

HODGE_PODGE_DODGE_GARAGE hoping so Zane, I hate to rob a dash and swap it out of my 92 if I don’t have too. Thinking a little elbow grease and I can salvage some of those junk yard parts. A guy I work with also pointed me in a direction of a OBS scavenger near me. Problem is he’s the type of guy to go to yards all the time and leave the messes we see in the video so it’s bitter sweet to buy anything from him 😂.

Back in the saddle brother, appreciate ya checking in! Just had a baby and off a long stretch of no days off at work since May, now fighting a bad stomach bug...but hoping Monday if the weathers right I can start working on the lightning maybe even order some parts and get some videos out. Trying to get as much done as possible before I go back to work in August.

Man people must really love their obs fords down there. Those trucks were picked clean! I hope you find the parts your looking for soon. It would be a shame to have to pull parts off your other obs, but you gotta do what you gotta do right!? In fact if you’d want, email me a list of parts your having trouble finding and I’ll see what I can do to hunt some down for ya, and ship them out. We got 5 or so junk yards in my city, so I’m sure there’s something out there.🤙

YDOC Productions it’s strange right? Seems like all other models have a lot of stuff still in them but 92-96 F150s are like a scavenger dream once it hits the yard 🤣. Biggest problem is the age and neglect to the vehicles, they are so faded and brittle it’s like being an archeologist handling the plastics if you find them! I appreciate ya offering Cody, I’ll get a list but I’d hate to bug ya with having to do that for me brother (but I don’t turn down help either 😂) I just wish I had more time to go out myself but full time job with the extra overtime cuts into my hobby time...I’m thinking I’ll do a breakdown of what I exactly need on my next video, hopefully tomorrow but apparently the rains coming in and I may have to push it off another week.

3rd Coast OBS I know right!? All you gotta do is breathe on that brittle 90s plastic and it disintegrates in your hand. No worries James! Next time I head out to the junk yard I’ll keep an eye out for ya.🤙 I’m glad this whole pandemic hasn’t affected your work. It’s scary times for a lot of people being unemployed, and I’m glad your not one of them. Biggest problem I got is trying to get rid of this 20ft. long SUV out of my driveway so I can move on to the next project!🤣 Turns out, not a whole lot of people want to buy cars during a world wide pandemic!😂 Looking forward to the next video!!

YDOC Productions I wish it was closer I know some people that would snag it up as a daily for driving to the refinery. Just had a thought, I’m not sure of your location in the state but if there are any plants near you you may want to park it out there near one. Everything is opened up here near the coast and we’ve been flooded with 3000 contractors for a turnaround. They buy up dependable cars all the time, might be an easy sale!

I have, but its a good tip! I like LMR and LMC for hard to find stuff for sure. Like you said LMR has a great selection for the Fox body and lightning stuff though, you're right. I've been eyeing some door panels for my truck but I'm concerned the color wont match my 93 ( since it was darker charcoal color then the 94 and 95) and the fitment may be off a bit... and they cost $600! ive bought a few things from them though and been pretty happy for what I've received. thanks for watching and commenting brother!

I'm surprised you didn't find more parts than you did, but i guess down south interiors take more of a beating than up north and any decent ones that arrive at the yard probably go fast. Down south you have solid bodies and baked interiors, up north you have decent interiors and rotted bodies. If your ambitious you could make a custom double din dash while repairing your existing dash using fiberglass, its a lot of work but Ive seen some pretty cool stuff.
@3rdcoastobs467
@3rdcoastobs467 4 года назад
Steve Stoltz I know man, I thought I’d have a little more to pick from but almost everything had been sun beaten to a super light grey almost white! Well at least the frame and body are straight. I was just looking into those DD trims yesterday, and found a couple spots where they have a layout and build ones specific to the 92-96 (and 97 F250s) dash pattern. Keeping all options open at this point but hoping to go stock looking interior even the classic style radio if possible 😂. I’ll get there, I watched this video and see after that Red 93 was picked apart I just got discouraged and probably passed on more stuff than I should have. We’ll get there though, it’ll just be a process and take some time gathering it all up.

@3rdcoastobs467 4 года назад
I HATE when guys do that painting to trim pieces and then you're left to fix or replace 🤣, a few of these junk yard trucks were the same way which just ruins them. You're near Houston? That yard was rough, I had better luck at the Hiram Clark rd location, this one on Wallisville was kind of a pain and picked through pretty bad 🤣. Hoping for better luck next round but won't be able to go until after turnaround at the refinery ends in July. I don't do Facebook but if you're near this area there is a guy that kind of hoards obs parts named Colt...something, I can find out his last name if you see this comment and are interested. I haven't contacted him but a guy I work with has got a lot of interior parts (and exterior and a rear end).

Frustrating isn't it? I've come across some gems in salvage yards, but not very often. Be glad your truck is only 30 years old! You'll find everything you need, it just takes time. Make any decisions on the engine yet? Or are you still contemplating on it?
@3rdcoastobs467
@3rdcoastobs467 4 года назад
Wesley Johnson I know right, I at least have 15 to 20 to look at, I don’t know how you do it on anything pre 1990 anymore. Still mulling it over, I have a call in to the guy I want to build it but with the virus, weird shop hours and him getting flooded with window shoppers it’s taking a bit to hash out the details. I’m really thinking going with the 393 for cost reasons but trying to figure out the internals and turbo vs supercharger....hopefully this week I get at least a few answers but I’m worried he may want to look at the truck (which I’m fine with) but that’s a half a day of loading it up and driving it there.

@@3rdcoastobs467 part numbers, cross-references, used & nos parts, willing to modify/retrofit aftermarket parts & patience. Lots of patience! The Lightning is speed density right? Personally, I'd probably lean a little more towards the turbo. It should give you more options for tuning & being able to get the boost in your desired powerband. But, I'm not very well versed in turbos or superchargers. Yeah, a lot of people with too much time & not enough money. It'll all come together though!
@3rdcoastobs467
@3rdcoastobs467 4 года назад
Wesley Johnson yes sir it’s speed density. I’m trying to learn the whole process because it seems like the mass air conversion is the norm for these trucks and Fox body mustangs of the time period. Honestly I’m the exact same way, I’m trying to cram a mechanic lesson is the pros and cons of supercharged vs turbo as I’m not exactly well versed myself. It’s a big decision to make on which way to go especially with the cost and labor to do it. Just wish I’d this turnaround would start a little early so I won’t feel guilty spending the cash on it 🤣.

@3rdcoastobs467
@3rdcoastobs467 4 года назад
This cervini had a functioning ram air but you need the extra kit to mount under the hood. I don’t know if a previous owner had it or they just bought the hood by itself. I’m just not a fan of the look though. I really dig a nice cowl hood but the ram air just doesn’t quite fit my taste on this truck. I’ve seen those patch on ones you’re talking about and you’re right, the minute you take it off you’re stuck with the remnants of the tape or glue that held it down. It’s a pain in the butt!
@oldcroneysgarage9739

@@3rdcoastobs467 yeah I'm talking about the patch on ones. I tend to call them the "cheap AutoZone hood scoops" my dad's truck was bought new by a bunch of Norwegians In 2000. For some reason in the photos of the truck back then it doesn't have those hood scoops but there's marks on the hood from them. Not sure what they had going on

NO ! Don't Rob Peter To Pay Paul !! You'll regret it surely. I've never done the modern day "pick and pulls" and don't care for them, for all the reasons you just explained and more. You need to be on it and ready to go pluck it 24/7 to get any decent/good parts it seems. It's literally a competition. With a Power Stroke and nice den and/or rec room you got there, I'm sure you could squeeze the budget a few Bennies and find it all on line, LOL. That's the correct, Pandemic way now anyway. I'd never fathomed having to wear masks at a junk yard !?! Welcome to 2020 !!!
@3rdcoastobs467
@3rdcoastobs467 4 года назад
Stucknarutt you’re 100% right, I hate the thought of robbing pieces off my 92 unless I absolutely had to. The more I thought about it, and some good info from some other guys had me second guessing that option. I just need more patience in the process and not think I’m going to hit a homerun on every trip to the pick n pulls. I’m not exactly a fan of the places but I might get lucky here and there. I think where I really messed up was having too broad a list and running around looking for everything out of one truck, next time I’ll just say “ok James, today just look for door trim, get that stuff then look for everything else if you have time”. Looking for hoods, bumpers and trims everywhere limited me because I can’t carry it all so I left some stuff I should have taken. Yea that stupid mask shit was ridiculous, nothing enforced beyond the gate but signs everywhere saying wear it all all times or be kicked out. Mean while I got guys wasting everyone’s time arguing (in Spanish) about paying the listed prices for parts! He’ll It took an extra 15 minutes to get in because one dude thought the $2 per person entry was too high..I mean Jesus Christ, I was irritated before I even walked in 🤣.

Man I’m learning that lesson quick on these trips! So you’re right that hood is ready to be functional but the previous owners just mounted this one minus the kit. It’s a cool hood, just not the look I want on the truck, I prefer a cowl or regular stock one. That’s good info on the color on the trims, I was thinking they might be different because I just keep finding these super faded interior pieces that look almost white 🤣. Now I know just find some and grab it if they aren’t cracked and go with it. I’m pretty mad at myself about the emblems..I looked back and I missed 2 more at the truck at the 4:55 mark!
