LETS GO BRANDON! 9th Gen OBS Fords, 1st Gen Lightning’s and 6.7 Powerstrokes. Just weekend warrior videos of DIY truck repair some auto vlogging for a new hobby. Also most likely appearances by my French Bulldog Jax, the trouble maker! Come along and watch me fumble through some stuff.
Brother I'm also first Timmer on this same project. Your doing great. Remember take it one bolt at a time. Don't rush shit. Back yard built is the only way to go. In the end we know everything was done correctly and next time will be a little quicker.
good videos but you never uploaded more videos of this lightnig truck Did you finish the project or not or what was the reason you didn't upload more videos?
@3rd Coast OBS the grommets for my pushrod cover are so thick the bolts won't thread?? I got a felpro gasket set and they are significantly thicker than what came off. am I missing something?
@@billybob-nt9cw I bought mine in February of 2020. Then it was "Famous Brand" part# 2FF8. I'm trying to remember but since my truck was a '92 I don't think I needed the air tube or smog pump... something like that. I verified my block cast number and called them to verify before the order. My old reciept says it cost $255 + $125 core (which i got back after sending my old head in) total i paid before core refund was $380.I see rock auto now doesn't seem to have it but Summit does with a out of stock estimate so far of 6/26/24, but their price is $489 + $190 core charge!!!.... Been a brutal 4 years brother.
Between these two videos and an overly technical video I feel alot more comfortable dropping my column. FYI Ford used that same exact shifter boot through both the Aero Nose OBS (92 - 96) and the Triton (97 - 03) generations. So you can snag a newer boot off a newer carcass
Working working Working 😆. Honestly gave up with posting on youtube. I don't have the politics they want me to have and started giving me warnings reducing views and then strikes so I hung it up waiting on this year to see if it changes.
Resurfacing was a little over $400 and a 4 week lead from one shop i wasnt familiar with and 12 week from my preferred shop that did all my work on the 93 lightning rebuild. A Competed resurfaced head with new valves stems, springs ect after rebate was $300 and got it in 3 days. Plus no threat of a cracked head that took forever to find out from the shops.
I bought mine off of rock auto. When they ship the new one it comes in the crate and return paperwork for the old to send back for the core. Was really easy, happy I went that route.
I have the same cap and was installing on a new transfer tank. I was using the cap to thread the pipe into the tank so I wouldn't mess up the pipe threads. I apparently used a bit too much force and it snapped internally and went into free spin mode. I thought I was screwed. Thanks for your video on the solution to removing the cap. It worked great!
Have to beat the crank no start to find out. I'm still battling what my builder couldn't figure out, but I do have good pressure to the rail and my gauge shows good fuel pressure... but I've only ran the front tank so far trouble shooting. Very frustrating times right now, I'm ready to hear this truck roar.
I have a 95 with the same motor I'm walking to do a restoration on it definitely going to need to know what book you're using so I can try to get a copy
I’m in the process of putting everything back together, started putting exhaust manifolds back on and realized i’m missing the “odd ball” bolt towards the front. I was wondering if that’s the only one like that or if i’m missing multiple?
@@3rdcoastobs467 Thank you sir, without this series I would’ve lost my first vehicle. Very sentimental and glad I can bring it back to life thanks to you. Hope you have a blessed day❤️
just got my cylinder head off and I was confused for a bit seeing that the coolant passages don't even connect to each other, and was thinking do I even have the right head on my truck but it looks like you have the same thing going as well. I guess them ford engineers know better than me a nobody. guess I'll just keep moving forward with my repairs. glad to have your videos for help and guidance.
Amazing job on your restoration i was wondering if you restored your tube bumper i have a gen 1 with a broken tube bumper im looking to restore or have a new one fabricated and dont know of a shop that can do it
My had a few dents but the paint shop straightened it and covered the bumps and bruises. On NLOC (national lightning owners) they have some sometimes for sale and there's a few posts about specs to build one with measurements if you want to go that route.
@@3rdcoastobs467 idk why but nloc hasnt approved my accnt maybe i have to purchase a subscription, i guess ill keep my eye open hopefully one comes up for sale thanks for the reply 👍🏻 ill keep watching ur videos love the content
i cant tell you how long ive been looking for this exact video series! ive been fumbling around my engine bay while a bunch of old mechanics tell me im doing it wrong. Thank you for posting these sir!
So glad it helps. I'm a super amateur so I know I did stuff wrong but the old girl is still running and getting 17.5mpg and just turned over 256k miles
I have an 88 ford f150 with the same motor but mine had a cracked head 5 out of six was cracked im in the middle of putting it back together now and you videos have helped me alot ty
thank you for "doing this for fun" lol i like old fords and my 92 straight 6 needs all of the same work done to it as yours did. i believe your video series will be a great tool for me to get started and get my daily back.
Only thing i liked about this ford was the bracket can be undone from one side to loosen head bolts and leverage the head off; then reattached for a handle with that weird bracket on the other side
