I love this bag! I made the original size and then decided I wanted something alitle bigger. Linds suggested enlarging the patternto 120%-- Perfect size and have made two. I added mesh pockets to each side panel and a luggage strap.
My mantra is that I do not buy a pattern that you do not have a tutorial to go along with it. Your teaching style is wonderful! Yes, I was one of the 3 people that did not yet have this pattern but I do now and I can’t wait to give it a go!!
When you “ goof”, that just shows us that you’re just as human as the rest of us AND what you can do if you do do it “wrong”. That’s one thing I like about you, you tell me from start to finish that you’re not a professional and you do make mistakes.❤️❤️❤️🥰
@Jess~ Hands down, your bag tutorials are the best! You're a naturally gifted teacher, give great tips, keep it real, and you always keep in mind that your viewers are at all different skills levels on their bag making journey! I love when you use cotton woven material or even cotton lycra combined with limited vinyl pieces, because I feel like it makes EVERY bag you teach, even more approachable and achievable for those of us who are sewing on a domestic machine. PLUS, who doesn't LOVE seeing beautifully designed fabric turned into a bag?! :-) Thanks!! ~~Christy~~
So fun to make! I have made a whole bunch of them. I sent you a message with the version I make on Facebook. Adding a tip.... 2 layers of SF101 will help with the CL stretching.
I’ve seen so many of you videos and I love listening to your instruction. I hope to sew bags this year. I sew clothes, but am moving away from custom work and hope to develop my own line of products. One at a time ☺️
Just finished my first bag ever! May or may not have been crazy to start with the guardian bag, but I'm soooo proud of myself and how it turned out. I would have never been able to do it without this tutorial. Thank you Jess!!!!! Biggest hugs! I'm so very inspired by you.
I’m obsessed with this backpack and the colors/pattern you chose!!! Ahh! I ordered this pattern for me and I ordered the water bottle pattern to make for my daughter- 😍🙌🏼
I am going to make this one for me and if it comes out then I will make for my two daughters. With your happy spirit motivates me to want to make it. Also not letting little mistakes get you down shows how you are like us. Thank you.
I love this backpack, it’s possibly the best looking backpack which is also a great looking shoulder bag and maybe even crossbody bag. Thanks so much for always showing how it looks on, because of you showing it, I have decided I need this pattern. Any chance you could do a video with removable backpack straps and an adjustable crossbody strap? Thanks so much for all your videos Jess ♥️
Great job as usual. I've been wanting to do a backpack but was a bit intimidated. Thanks for your wonderful tutorials, we all get our sewjo when we watch your videos.
Waw, it is gorgeous bag pack and a great tutorial but it is high above my machine to sew, plus it is too much for my nerves, I mean my skill level ;) Maybe, I can do it… in ten more years, I know I will, keep on showing these excellent tutorials, we don’t give up on faith of improvement!!! Can you try it in cotton and a domestic sewing machine? Thanks, we love you… you are a very good teacher!
Hello @Jess OklaRoots I'm going to give this bag a try but I'm using fabric that I have on hand which is cotton for interior and exterior. So my question is do I put Decovil Light both?
Yay! Someone finally got a brain, to hide the zipper against the back . I never could understand why they wanted your zippers to be easy access to others. Theives have easy access to your stuff. Great looking bag .
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Been thinking of how to make a bag like this! I have a question though, why does the main zipper panel have the extra lip at the bottom? Thank you!
Hi Jess: another great pattern and am starting soon. Bought rip stock for the lining. Would you put WovenFuse 2 interfacing on it or leave it. It is pretty thin. Love your tutorials. Very gifted teacher.
So with the light weight interfacing to the quilt cotton or CL; could I fuse all my pieces to a yard of the interfacing or do u suggest cutting the interfacing and fusing to the already cut bag pieces?
ADVICE PLEASE. Ive noticed when i cut vinyl its easy to not get straight lines. I want to invest in a Cricut Maker buts it expensive. My mom gave me her Cricut Expression and its old, plus Ive never used it. It seems like maybe it doesnt cut fabric but only card stock. Are vintage Cricuts more like old computers ( worthless ) and less like old sewing machines that get the job done just fine? Should I toss it and get a new one so I can cut fabric? Thanks for any help/advice!!!
I've had this pattern for a while and I've been waiting for u to make a tutorial!! I haven't started mine yet I have a look in mind but its vinyl throughout and water proof canvas. I have a bernina 570 and idk if it will handle the curve with the thickness. I have the cutest up material and I dont want to ruin it. Have u done a complete vinyl one yet? Thought having sewing the seems? Do they have a lot of bulk with layers?
Jess... I thought I saw you make a bag with the interior slip pockets like the Felicity tote has. I can't remember where I saw it. Please refer me to that video if it exists! Thanks!!!
Please! May you creat a video on how to sew the "Diamon in a Rough" bag patter from MuffyDuck Design? I purchased this last year and am so, overwhelmed by the instructions. I have done many bags you have showed us and I know how to follow it when I see your instructions.
hello, I would like to know what is the measurement in cm of the pattern of the main panel, since I print it, but my backpack looks smaller in size than yours.
Hello Jess I need info please. I have a CSTEP-2 grommet press from Metal Grommets I need to buy Rivet and Snap Dies. Do you know where I could buy them from??? Please I’m lost!!!!! What is the most used size Grommets and Rivets and Snaps used please???? Thanks so much. Love You Jess your Amazing. Janis.
Can you show the sewing in real time? We miss all the stuff you do when doing a difficult part. You go Man, that was TOUGH! And I go It looked easy to me.😏 Speeding up covers the struggle and I would like to see all you do to keep layers together etc. I am learning bag making is hard because materials like to be ornery. Your tutorials are far and away the best and I rely on them heavily.
Has anyone else have trouble with the zipper? In the pattern it says the finished length is 30” but mine is never 30” any suggestions on how to adjust the pattern?
