Pick-Up Items at Different Heights Unreal Engine

In this tutorial, we will create pick-up items at different heights using the Inverse Kinematics (IK) of the control rig in Unreal Engine 5. We will also add an interact widget to indicate when the item can be picked up. This tutorial utilizes free Mixamo animations and continues from the last pick-up item tutorial and open door tutorial ( • Open Doors Tutorial .

I love the tutorial, a good part 2 would be adding the picked obj in a custom inventory with the classic scheme w/ 3 types (consumables w/ scaling stats for health, weapons w/ 2-3 classic stats, and common/readable items).

This is amazing man thank you sincerely. I have a question though, Is there a way to implement this technique with the melee tutorial you made last year? They are both amazing but I cannot get them to work together. Can you help ?

This two tutorial use completely different animation system which shouldn’t use together. Melee use root motion and this project don’t use root motion animation.

Is it possible to use this method to catch a moving object? Would the IK have to dynamically move to catch it?

IK can move to catch it. But if the location is too far the reaching hand can look bad.

How could I add the item name to the hover widget? to see what the item is

Get the item name in your player character. Create event to change the name in widget. Call this event from your player character.

this is very complex and useless in actual game make it simple like we have seen in aaa games like last of us, assassins creed, days gone. where our character just bends to his knees or just hand motion which give an illusion that our character has picked up the item

Death stranding has different animations for different size boxes and different positions. So clearly it does work in games.
