Gettysburg was the first strike in a two hit combination. Vicksburg fell to the Union a day later. The Civil War ended that week.

Day two the 1st Minnesota was sent on a suicide charge by Winfield Scott Hancock to save the Union line. Not only did they succeed the survivors returned back to the union lines and reformed ready for battle. Day two, Scott was put into almost exactly the same situation and had to send the 1st Minnesota into another suicide charge again and this time they came back from the charge with the battle flag of the 28th Virginia. It has been asked that we return it several times but since we took it in battle it is Minnesota's to display as a trophy.
