Kim you are the reason people will NOT suffer!! My favorite saying to approach any situation with safety in mind ….”an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”..I WANT YOU ON MY TEAM IN ANY EMERGY!!
I'm disabled Kim & I didn't think your comment about wheelchair bound individuals was discriminatory 👍🏻😉 and you are correct in thinking about the additional liability of transporting the disabled with assistive equipment 😉🥰❤
You have every right to be concerned about the safety of the people in wheelchairs because after all they are in your care!! Like you said God will be there to help along the way ❤❤❤ love you & Levi❤❤❤
Kim, All your concerns are valid. If you haven't already done so, you should make a list and present it to your pastor. This way, each concern can be addressed and a plan put in place. As for the bus mechanic, can you or someone from the church contact the county and see if the mechanics that work on the school buses can refer you to a mechanic.
Most lifts have a manual option, there should be a pipe type handle and a place to use it like a tire jack in side the box type gear works Somewhere in the inside part of your metal workings of the lift cage. If the lift has a name anywhere either on a nameplate or sticker, Google the manual and the manual ,or emergency override, for that lift. They all have a way to hand crank the lift up and down. Im a disabled vet and have ridden every type van or bus there is, and they all have a way to get the lift up and down with a hand crank. I case of a break down, unless the wheelchair is a battery powered chair, a manual wheelchair will fold up, after the person is out of it, and the wheelchair can fit in most trunks, or hatch backs.
As a person with a handicap person in my life I totally understand where you are coming from kim❤you’re thinking of all possibilities and that’s what a responsible , thoughtful person does.
Having traveled with my mother in a wheelchair on the local busses I can tell you get the person and wheelchair loaded and secure can be a major challenge.
Bless you dear Kim for thinking of and planning for all possibilities. I am disabled, though not wheelchair-bound. My mom is however. You are certainly doing the right thing and no you are not saying anything discriminatory! 💜
You know what you're talking about Kim! I'd put a list of your concerns together and bring it up to the board, or at least more than just one person at the church. If the pastor is excited about doing this, he may overlook some of your concerns to get it up and running. This way, if God forbid something ever happens, you'll have proof and backup that you brought up those concerns. God bless. 💗
Hi Kim. I ve been driving a white bus for 32 years for our outings at work... Here, in Canada anyways, there is a way to work the lift manually if it does stop working. It s alot of work mind you, but they are not stuck on the bus
I knew what you were talking about with taking people with wheel chairs. There safety is important. I hope your church will find someone to fix it. 🙏 Thankyou for all you do for everyone. I'll be watching tomorrow gifts and goodies. You and Levi have a wonderful day.
Norma here. First of all, thank you for volunteering to drive the church bus. You are such a selfless person. Secondly, your comment was not discriminatory at all and shouldn’t be taken as such. I knew that you were simply considering the safety of any wheelchair bound passengers you may be transporting. You are thinking of all the “what if” scenarios. As others have said, you need to present these concerns to your pastor and formulate a plan of action for every possible situation you may encounter. Hopefully everything will always run smoothly, but we all know that things happen. It’s always easier and less stressful when you’re prepared.
Kim, you definitely have a real concern about people that are bound to a wheelchair and I think it should be addressed before you ever pick up your first passenger!! I hope you + Levi have a wonderful weekend!! Stay cool + hydrated!!
I don’t envy you Kim! My mother was in a wheelchair and the amount of forward thinking involved in getting her to places then struggling to manoeuvre her once there was mind blowing 🤯. Her collapsible wheelchair would NOT push on larger car park gravel, cobblestones and muddy paths even backward. We spent an afternoon at a miniature railway just sitting in the gravel rock car park drinking hot chocolate, eating toasted tea cakes in torrential rain and watching families board the trains. We had a good laugh about it so it WAS a fun day out but NOT what we’d anticipated at all 😂. You’re SO RIGHT to worry about the “what ifs”!
Kim I understand what you were on about when you said in the bus about the elderly in wheelchairs I am with you on that respective have a beautiful day love…love from Sydney Australia xxx
Emergency situation.. rescue people available via 911 will get them off the bus. You can also set funds aside to have a transport ambulance to respond to an emergency.. Good to have a plan. Contact numbers etc. Figure out what your needs are, and never say never develop a solution to your needs. Sometimes it comes down to accepting a certain amount of risk. You can not do it alone, but it is amazing what a group of determined people can accomplish.
Kim, I don’t blame you for being concerned in loading wheelchair elderly. I’ve worked with elderly for decades and loading and unloading can be challenging. My community has a van that can load elderly to take to doctor appts, etc and I will tell you that the driver cannot touch the person (due to liability issues) at all. The person has to be able to get on and off the van by themselves. So, please have your church check out the liability insurance it will carry on this bus so you are protected. We all know many elderly need assistance getting up and down stairs. Perhaps you’ve already done this but, this is just my experience working with the elderly and insurance.
Kim you need to address your concerns with the pastor and let him know your not comfortable driving the bus without the issues you have being addressed and a plan in place to cover those issues! Also there’s the liability to carrying passengers of all ages and health and physical issues ! Your right Kim it’s something that must be addressed and a plan in place before I’d be comfortable driving it with passengers ! God bless have a great week-end ! ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈
Kim, I totally understood ur reasoning for concern around wheelchair. You were clear and worried you weren’t. No worries. You always have a positive intent based on ur video history.
Hi Kim, you have a valid concern about wheel chairs on your bus. If it’s a power chair it could lose power and those are super heavy and you can switch to manual mode but it is still heavy to manipulate. If it’s a regular chair and the lift freezes you’re stuck. It’s best not to take chair bound people. You can use the lift for emergency exit. If you’re driving, you have to take all these things into consideration. Are the straps in good condition is another safety issue. Can your back handle the movements of strapping a chair in securely. I understand your point of view. I rode in a handicap school bus for years accompanying a trach dependent disabled child and seen all that can go wrong. Huge liability.
Make sure you let the people know your concerns. My husband and I used to run a church bus and there’s a lot of concerns about safety when you’re on the road with a bus you are not comfortable with or not knowing how your bus will react.
Goooood Morning Kim and Gigi!! Tell Gi, she's movin on up with her car, heehehee, it's pretty!! That bus is really long but im guessing that's a regular length of a bus....Well sweetie, You and Levi have a blessed weekend, stay cool and we love yall out here,oh say hey,hey to Levi too...Thx babie ❤❤
i worked for over 30 yrs at a county board of dd and i also drove bus for many years your concerns are legit i have never seen a bus that did not have an evacuation door, obviously they made them however thats scary, the lift can be put down manually there should be a rod attached to it somewhere so that you can hand pump it down and also it would be tough for elderly people to get out the emergency exits, it looks like a flat floor bus (no wheel wells the floor is above them) which makes those exits way higher off the ground, hauling around young spry kids is one thing but hauling around handicap and elderly is a way different good luck i wish you all the best thank you
Being a bus driver is hard enough, then to add making sure the wheelchairs are properly secured, the what ifs make sense especially with an older bus. Stuff can happen. I would bring it up to the Pastor to have a "What if Plan" to be able to safely get the wheelchair folks to safety. You are a thinker (not a bad thing) and want the people you are responsible for to be safe in case of emergency
I have been in my wheel chair for awhile. I always have to think ahead about my safety and what ifs. Is there a bathroom, steps, grass, or pea stones. There is things that do hinder my mobility. I don't blame you for worrying, especially an older bus. If that lift quit working, they would have to be carried out. Most places around here are handi cap accessible so they say but you get there and something hinders you it happens all the time. I used to where a prosthetic but my back would not allow me to walk anymore with out pain and as you would say it is what it is😊😊😊 I do really good and still have good mobility. Love Rene ❤ 😊👩🦽🤷♀️
I've driven vans with the same kind of wheelchair lifts for over 25 years and even if there is no power, they have emergency procedures in place so you can hand crank the person up or down. That is something that everyone who drives the bus, should practice before they go anywhere though.
You are correct in being worried about disabled people and elderly people who cannot move well. What about insurance on the bus and everyone traveling in it and the driver ?
Kim I worked on a special needs bus for 20 years. There is a hand crank if the lift breaks down, what I am concerned about is if you have to evacuate there is only one exit.
Kim your concerns for the safety of all the church parishioners is valid. I think you will have a safety meeting with the church minister and administration…. But listen if for any reason the bus breaks down all you have to do is call the fire dept and they will figure out how to get everyone out and home safely 🙏…. Plus they will have an Angel at the wheel ❤️ and Hell we all know Sister Kim can fix ANYTHING
Kim & Levi, I knew what you meant about wheelchair people safety issues if the bus broke down. You are concerned due to your experiences as a former bus driver. You are a very organized person, so I understand why you're concerned for the elders safety. Thank you for volunteering to drive the bus. God Bless
This one made me cry. Still crying. I am the one that is stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. What life you may ask? ADA was formed 30 years ago....30 years...and people, businesses, churches, busses, the list can go on for eternity, does not allow ME to go. I can't go out to eat, because of steps or some other difficulty that the business makes excuses. I can't go to church Kim. I can't go worship my Lord, no where in this town has a church with no steps or a ramp for me to go into it. I can't go. I have no freedom. None. That is my life. So I sit here, watching my favorite family ever, and you make that statement, and it has just made me cry. Put yourself into my shoes for an hour....Try and go someplace that doesn't fit you, allow you to enter....It sucks. I have no freedom. None. I never will. The government made ADA (Americans with Disability Act), and yet, excuses come out more in 30 years then ever before. Safety of me, safety for others, safety for traveling. That list is eternity as well. I am not free. In a country that I should be free in. I'm not writing this to hurt anyone, especially you, because you ARE a gorgeous lady that I admire soooo sooo much. You are strong and well loved by thousands, if not millions. I love you as well, but that statement about wheelchairs, just hit home for me personally. I hear that "excuse" alllll the time. I can't go anywhere, because of those excuses. Please do better and think about those excuses and change for me please. I'd love to see people in wheelchairs be able to someday have their freedoms. To be able to go to church, or out to eat, or anywhere. I can't. I'm sorry for the long rant. Like I said, I still love ya girl, and I admire you so much. It must be hard to "monitor" your words to "fit" every persons needs or wants....I thank you for sharing xoxo Nancy
Yes. Kim, You cannot jump into the fray with only emotion in mind. You must add practicality. You will be stuck without back up nor safety. Please stay practical as well as with a heart. Think for their safety. The institutions also need to think of their safety. There's too much on your shoulders. Focus on what you cam manage better, i.e. your home, Levi, your animals. The rickety church bus without back up nor lift, is not your responsibility. You've got enough to deal with. God Bless
Hi Norma, I'm very capable of doing both, driving the church bus and every day life. The bus is not rickety. The concern is that it's the only bus we have. No backup. Things happen. Even new vehicles break down sometimes
I drove school busses for 33 years… all our w/c bus lifts had hand cranks for emergencies ( which did happen ) For fire emergencies, there were fire blankets mounted on the bus wall. We would lift the w/c person out of the w/c n put them on the blanket, I guess it was like a fire dept lift, we successfully n safely could remove that individual via the usual egress options ( we practiced this every year- but I personally never had an emergency that needed the procedure ) I suppose if the lift failed n the crank method failed u could use the fire blanket method. PS. We were required to always have 2 adults onboard- driver n attendant or 2 drivers Hope this gives u a dif perspective Kim
The bus does look great on the inside. That's a lot of extra work to put the wheelchairs on. I had to use one several years ago. It isn't easy for the driver.
We used to have an old blue church bus years ago we had so much fun on that bus traveling and visiting different revivals stuff the they decided to go with a few large church vans between the 3 it held enough people but it was never as much fun as that old blue church bus, you are right Kim that is a real fear when you have disabled on the bus
Thank U for volunteering to drive the bus in the first place it’s a lot responsibility to take on 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼good luck on that May God be with U👍🎊👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Kim,I think your right to think about the disabled and what could go wrong. I am disabled and you are right to think ahead. I thank you for that, your sweet to put the video out. I wish you a great day, God Bless you always
Kim I'm 55 and use a Wheelchair, but I can walk short distances.. Maby just people that can't walk short distances... I played the piano for years and now I don't have a vehicle and live in a small town our church doesn't have a bus, but if something happen I could ride in a vehicle... I mainly need it for long distances and I don't hurt as bad when I'm in my Wheelchair.(compared to church pee) Maby they would have to be able to walk some for you'll to pick them up. Just pray about it.❤
Good morning Kim! I think that bus is so cool looking. I love it. I am still praying extra hard for rain for you all in need of it so terribly 🙏. OXOXO to you and all your family and animals ❣️
Good morning Kim, just when I thought I couldn't admire you more. Taking on the Ministry the Lord has given you and thinking about what's needed for safety reasons is what you should be doing and if wheelchairs are part of it or not, you will know. 🙏 everything works out and that God will supply you with a good mechanic. Those Crocs sound adorable would've love to have seen Levi's face. ❤&🙏
Good Friday morning, Kim, Levi, and Gigi! Wow, yalls church bus is a long school bus. I have never seen churches use a bus this long. You are awesome volunteering to drive this bus for your church members. Have a blessed 🙏 💖 and wonderful day! ❤🌻 💞 ✝️ 💕 🥰
Hello and good morning Kim and Gigi. I like your upgraded vehicle Gigi 😀. I understand your concerns about the bus, it's all valid issues. Maybe there are men/ mechanics who work for the school district who can work on the church bus. Have a great day Kim and take care 😚
Kim... your pastor may reach out to another church with a bus and lift and work out a plan for a backup for each other. Just a thought... love your videos!❤
Hello Kim and Gigi , You are great to volunteer to drive Church Bus . I did to for years , they had me going taking people about 4 to 5 days a week . Have a blessed day . Love you all.❤
Most buses have a manual way to lift or lower the lift without power. It's a lot of work but I've had to do it. The homes or families of the people in wheelchairs would hopefully be able to transport them home.
Hey Kim. I've tried watching your videos, even the one from today " We're moving" and the comments are turned off. This is the most recent with comments. Sorry your so hot and dry, it's that way here in Alabama too. I spend my day trying to keep my livestock from being too hot, it does wear you out. So don't feel bad if you have to spend the hottest part of the day indoors. You and your livestock are most important, don't worry about the plants. Stay cool if possible.
I knew what you meant! When you are the driver that is your responsibility, too keep everyone safe. You have a right to voice your opinion. Nice church bus!
You are unique in your own way, which is a awesome thing! Because you look at the whole picture, not just the #1 thing! I think it's always important to ask someone's opinion about thing's! You need to bring this up to the board of directors so they know what your concerns are honey!❤❤❤😊😊😊😊 Love you to, hang in there, you got this!😊😊😊
Kim, I think you need to meet with your pastor about your concerns before it goes any further. I just think you are being very wise and concerned about the what if's. Like that one lady said an ounce of prevention is very important. I love you so much, Levi to.❤️
All the vehicles I've been on have only one entrance/exit for the handicap. Most counties have transportation vehicles. They may not be near you but will come in an emergency. Plus, the fire department can help. My sister lives in the country. She had a family party, and the fire department carried my mother into my sister's house and came back after to take her out. Her fire department is all volunteer. You will have help in an emergency. Wish I could assure you that all will be well with maintenance of the bus. Sorry.
I drove a bus and my lift broke once. I had three wheel chairs on that day. There is a manual way of working the lift. Check into that so you can have peace of mind.
