The Beast is Back! The New Idea Uni Picker needed a quick tire repair after sitting for a year. Alan and Jordan took a day to get the beast running and now is a quick trial run. There are about 4 acres of corn left from chopping corn earlier this Fall. The Deer and Turkey in the area have definitely been sampling quite heavily, so we wanted to pick some to see if there was enough corn to set up the Owatonna 205 elevator in the Corn Crib. Surprisingly, filling the Minnesota Gravity Box up didn't take long. Alan decided there was enough corn to put in the crib, but first Alan wanted to grind a load of ear corn for our heifers. The Case 830 tractor pulled the gravity box home where the International 1256 tractor and Artsway Corn Grinder waited. The load should make some nice feed for our heifers as they grow. Stay tuned for the rest of the field being picked.

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.

Our picker went down one Year and we only had about two loads of picked corn, a nice neighbor came in and shelled the rest of it for us, we took it to the local mill and put it in feed bank. when we ran out of ear corn and went to the shell cow the cows went down on BF test big time, the feed store had a product called SWEET-BULKY FLAKES, it was a soy-hull with molasses product. We added it to the ration and they came back up some. Hard to beat ear-corn even though there is a little more work involved. THANK =YOU. Kevin.

Tks for sharing.. we got that storm here in Michigan. But with the lake affect. We ended up about 12 plus inches. That piece on your picker elevator! Dad just used to cut a pice off the power belt for the the hammer mill. That worked nice. Be interesting to see the few rows of corn. See how many deer come out. Looks like a nice crop of corn too.

Just finished the last of the corn on our place today we plant, attend and harvest a corn maze for our neighbor and it was the last it's always takes a beating from the paths and the people traffic through it. We still took off over 100 bushel of shelled on two acres we had taken off 15 acres and cribbed about 3500 bushel and then we shell what was left saved about 400 bushel that for our custom feed business. And we put 200 bushel through the local elevator today and I'm taking them the last hundred tomorrow. And they're still like 40 bushel on the combine yet we have been blessed considering the droughty type weather we had we're pretty good shape. You stay safe out there try not to break anything LOL

That's the storm that dumped 8" at my brother's place just east of you. I was by my Grandparents old place and I found out he has a Uni- like machine but like all his tractors it's a Minnie Mo. Neat machine. We had two gravity wagons, I grind feed right out of them. Several years back I was picking corn into February. Fill those 2 wagons grind it up. All the cribs were full. You do what you have to.

I used to work for a new idea dealer and we had a lot of unities that we rented out to the canning company and we had to put different units on the tractor so they can pick sweet corn and then we had to change the picture heads to stripper rolls so it would pull the wet stocks down through the rolls and that was a lot of work to change all that
@rctractorwizard

I really like watching you farm with all the older equipment. As far as I’m concerned the older the tractor the better. Today’s modern tractors and equipment have way to many problems. Keep up the good work!! God bless you and your family!

Alan, yes, we see the augers with no safety features, but you also see at a distance the boys have listened to their father and he has taught them that they must stay away, maybe someone can donate a brand-new one with Shields! Until then he must go on . A great video again just wish I knew how to fix the husking rolls for you? Please continue with these videos. Thanks, Skip Ruckert
@trinitydairy
@trinitydairy Год назад
Very nice comment, thank you! We were told when we bought that picker, that it wouldn't husk as clean as the old 2row pull type . From what I've seen, most of the issue is in the head, it has stripper plates, instead of the rollers like the old one, it pulls in a lot more trash.

That Vitamin E is some good stuff when you "have" to use it. I have an idea that you are actually hesitant to use either, unless it is absolutely necessary. Diesel engines have a tendency to chatter a bit when firing up with a shot. As you were picking the corn Alan, I thought to myself that your yield was going to be more than you anticipated, just by watching the way the ears were dropping into the gravity wagon. I guess the deer were kind enough to leave some for your cows. Nice looking picker by the way. I remember watching your video when you repaired the chute. Thanks for the video. God speed to you and your family.

G'day from Down Under Alan. Second day of summer here- beautiful weather. My old 1960 Fiat hates the cold, and I hate using ether on her. I pull the air intake hose off the motor and stick the electric heat gun in there on high. No need to wait- she fires up instantly. I let her run with the heat gun in place for maybe thirty seconds and we're good to go. Ether's expensive and I hate listening to the rattles and bangs it causes in an old cold motor:) Please try the heat gun and let me know what you reckon. Love your videos:) Jay.

Hello Alan. The right of way mowers that I used to repair had a a section of the rubber belt material that was sliced about every 3 to 4 inches as you looked across the belt deflector. The rubber material was sliced somewhere about 3/4 of the way up on the belt material which was around 3/8 to 1/2 inch in thickness. I wonder if that type of a deflection would possibly work out in your situation. The belt deflectors work really well for a long period of time. If you had some rubber that was slightly thicker than the rubber belting used on roll balers would probably be what you would need but not terribly heavy. Hope you and the family are doing well.

When I used to also work for the Implement dealership he had Gail mixers and people are taking grind feet in it and that feed we get hot from grinding and then they'd leave it set overnight and then they twist off the key in the gearbox because the feed would freeze so that used to be a lot of fun too fixing them Mills when it's full of feed

Please reconsider the safety shields on your equipment. Lives can be changed or lost in a moment, even with the best of intentions; children are unpredictable and can approach a dangerous situation without you knowing it. I believe shields and other safety measures can protect you from stupidity, a slip and fall, or a moment's indiscretion. With genuine concern for the safety of your family, again, please use all of the safety measures available. I enjoy seeing a smaller family operation in action, just would hate to see it marred by an avoidable tragedy.
@trinitydairy
@trinitydairy Год назад
I'm not saying that guards have no place, but oftentimes people become complacent and do stupid things because there's a guard. I've personally seen people grab a PTO guard while running so they can climb over the PTO. We take safety seriously on the farm and we know there's oftentimes no second chances on a farm. We tell our children that constantly. Don't get me wrong, guards are always important.
@dmc3742
@dmc3742 Год назад
I'm sure if he had them he would put the shields back on rather than see all the comments here on how unsafe he is being. Please keep in mind that this piece of equipment is probably well in excess of 50 years old. These shields are no longer available anywhere. Trade offs have to be made sometimes. Your concern is appreciated I'm sure.
