Also, if you’re coming to London in the summer, some universities rent their students’s rooms in that period and it’s cheaper. Imperial College London does that and they have buildings all over London such as South Kensington, Waterloo, Acton, Notting Hill, etc… Cambridge and Oxford also rent their rooms to tourists in the summer holidays.
I have stayed at the St Athans hotel several times. It’s about 2 blocks from Russell Square tube and single rooms with shared bathrooms are around £55 per night. The rooms were very small but clean and the mattress was actually really comfortable. En-suite rooms start at £70.
I got a package through AAA Travel Roud trip tickets for British Airways from Boston to Heathrow. 6 Nights at the Hilton London Kensington. $3,631 or GBP 2,883. This is for my wife and me. Will probably have a budget of about $3,000.00 or GBP 2,382. That should cover restaurants, shopping, transportation. We also got a roundtrip transfer (shared van) Heathrow to hotel. It's our 35th wedding anniversary we will be celebrating next May 2024.
After a career in network TV news I am brutal on video producers but your stuff is tight, concise, packed with content and really engaging. You are a gold mine. THANK YOU!
We really loved our stay at the Nadler in Soho (now The Resident Hotel). I loved that it had a sink and a microwave and a fridge. Made it so you could grab food from Fortnum and Mason and bring it home to eat later.
Oh my goodness, fridge and microwave! I will add your hotel to my list as my 14yo has Celiac Disease so every meal is a picnic! (Meaning we have to grocery shop and make our meals. Ugh)
Can I ask the price range? My husband & I will be landing Sept 5th 23 & return back to US on 28th but planning on going to Chester, York, Bath & Edinburg during that time period. We want to spend at least a week in London.
Nice Video. I always stay at Premier Inn it's a clean nice hotel with very friendly staff and a lovely restaurant. We are staying in November at the leicester square hotel for only 60 pound a night for the room and in april only 50 pound. Premier inn is our favorite . Everyone that I recommended to go to one of the Premier inn hotels around London, never want to go anywhere else than the Premier in hotels.
I stayed in a so-so hotel in west Kensington called the Point A Kensington Olympia. Tiny little rooms, but had all that I needed, was close to the Earls Court station, and the best staff ever.
Good informative video. We will be in London for a precruise 4 day stay. I found the Tower Hotel at a good price and the location is exceptional with the Tower Hill Tube station 10 minutes away and river bus dock a short walk .
Why don't you recommend premier inn or travel lodge for the £80 budget, plenty of choice in that range,I use premier inn in London you get free WiFi and your own bathroom, which would seem better than a hostel,I hope things are picking up for you as fingers crossed we start to get back to normal (what ever that is)
I prefer to recommend non-international chain hotels as much as possible, and none of those types of hotels showed up in my research, or when they did they had rubbish locations or bad reviews.
I agree. We are rescheduling our trip that was detonated by Covid, from March 2020, to September 2021, now that the quarantine requirements from the US are lifted (for now). We are staying in a wide variety of places over the country, from small b&bs to 3 star hotels. But in London, we are just looking for a safe clean place to park our carcasses to sleep, for as little money as possible. We know from years living in NYC that that is all you need, for the rest of hours of the days you are out and about doing City things. So we are doing Hub by Premier. I'll follow up this comment with our actual results. We didn't see bad reviews for them, and they seem to check our boxes for safety and cleanliness.
Premier is not a bad brand. It's consistently ok. It's a solid bed and shower and decent paid breakfasts. It's also a good travel budgeting tool as you will always have to prepay ahead of time for your room. I'm the kind of traveler that likes to have most things prepaid.
Good video Jess. When I was in London I stayed in Kensington and liked that area also. Looking forward to being able to reschedule my trip back........thanks Jess
Have you ever featured any of the Z Hotels in London? They are sprinkled around the city and they do some really good deals on tiny comfortable rooms. Me and my bf loved it and they had a free happy hour in the evenings with wine and a charcuterie spread that was delish. Great for people that just want a place to sleep but not really concerned about having a massive suite.
My husband and I will be arriving Sept 5th & returning the 28th to US but traveling to Chester, York, Bath & Edinburg. Plan at least 5 - 7 days in London, this will be my second trip to London, (my husband has lost track, he scored 18 on the quiz you scored 19 on.). When we came in Feb of 22, we stayed at an Airbnb in East Acton, about 5 mins from the tube, & stayed 12 days not counting travel days. Not sure if want to go that route again since it's just the two of us this time. We're 53, not too demanding, a good bed, nice shower and not a terrible trek to the tube is a BIG plus. Suggestions? Sorry we don't have Instagram 🥺
Hi! We discourage the use of Airbnb in London. We have some great apart-hotel recommendations in this article: loveandlondon.com/18-london-apart-hotels-better-than-airbnb/
I stayed at the St Pancras hostel back in 2000. It was great and just across the street from a station that had a ton of tube routes. Also across from the British Library. : )
The YHA St Pancras is a great hostel! Spent a month volunteering there a few years back and absolutely loved it. The only downside though is they do not have wifi in the rooms. Only in the common areas.
Very nice video and very good information. I am planning trip to London for 4 days during New years. Not sure which area to stay in, as I want to enjoy the holiday seasons (i.e. holiday markets; new years eve festivities). Do you have any suggestions? I would appreciate any advice.
My brothers and I are going to be staying in London in October for the weekend we are going to be watching a few futbol games so we want to be within reasonable distance of Emirates Stadium and Tottenham stadium but we would also love to see London we want to be near the hot food spots and also near the city and shopping, preferably in a safer place for tourists.
Ibis, Travel lodge and Premier Inn are all good low budget hotel options for London. The rooms are basic but clean with en-suite and wifi included. As a mostly solo traveller, I much prefer this option to hostels.. thought they would have been mentioned in the £80 search.
Hi Jess, Just found your channel, very informative! Any suggestions for a small "capsule" style hotel for a few nights. I'm on the move, and don't like sharing dorm rooms. I just a need something clean to sleep & clean up. Also, will you be adding any other types of tours? Thanks in advance...
Thanks! We have lots of tips for accommodation here: loveandlondon.com/category/london-accommodations/ yes we will be adding more tours and experiences next year!
Jesse, your videos are brilliant. We are going to London after about 35 years in May. I'm watching your videos. Good information. Question..... what do you suggest a hotel for 2 young ladies, which are safe. May be East ham or other place. As I think central London might be very expensive. Could you suggest something.
Thanks so much, glad you're enjoying! You can find all of our hotel recommendations in this part of our website: loveandlondon.com/category/london-accommodations/ Have a browse!
Thanks so much Jess. We are planning on staying in Kensington. I think our budget is 200.00 to 300.00. Our travel agent had found us a hotel, K hotel Kensington for a great price before covid killed the trip last year. So we are hoping we can still stay there or close to that hotel. If you know anything about that hotel I'd love to hear about it. Again thanks so much...Lisa
We have stayed at the Baileys Hotel in South Kensington the last 2 times we went to London. We love that hotel. It’s right across the street from the tube station and plenty of restaurants and pubs around it. (Also a great breakfast in the morning to start you day)
Hello! My family is traveling London this August, 2 adults and 2 youths. We want to look for hotel budget around $300, and easy to all the tourists check points(attractions). All the hotel you recommend here are sold out already. Can you please help give more other recommendations that can fits our needs?
Jess are you finding these prices directly in the hotels' websites? cause my son and i just stayed at the qbic hotel on top of Bricklane at a cool trendy room with great facilities AND a window for £78 per night and it was fantastic! highly recommend it. We did not book directly and it might be worth to ask your viewers to book through 3rd parties for discounted rooms.
How did you like this one compared to Kensington.. if you haven’t been to both can you tell me which one would you prefer based on the area? I’m coming in may with my mom
