This reminds me of when I adopted a mustang stallion and 2 mares. Quill (the stallion) wasn't gelded right, (I'm a vet) so hes still a stallion. I have 9 horses, 3 are mustangs. Quill, Zara, Daysi, were all from the same herd and Quill was up against the fence trying to be with Zara and Daysi. It was sad so I brought them all home. This was about 3 years ago. Daysi and Zara are very jumpy and don't really trust people. On Quill I do trick riding, show jumping, barrel racing, any thing you can think of, he can do.

A cowboy buys a horse from the town pastor. The pastor explains, “To make the horse go, you gotta yell, ‘Thank God!’ And to make it stop, yell, ‘Hallelujah.’” The cowboy rides away. He rides all day and starts to nod off in the saddle when he notices he is about to ride straight over a cliff. Searching his memory, he yells to the horse, “Hallelujah! Hallelujah!” The horse grinds to a stop just at the edge of the cliff. The cowboy wipes the sweat off his forehead. “Phew!” the cowboy sighs. “Thank God!”

I sort of liked the big chestnut pinto - he had some size to him. There was also a solid bay with four white legs; hard to see from a distance, he looked smallish, but compact and looked to have a nice shoulder on him. Of course, it is easy to say that from a video. Seeing them in real time is a whole different thing.

Is there any plan to just do vasectomies on the lead stallions and later geld the colts? That seems like it would cut down on the mustang population explosion the quickest. And probably the most cost efficient.

So far, we learn all about the makover, the unusual markings on a pony, how much a challenge it will be but; nothing about the REASONS a certain mustang is selected/or passed over. What are you looking for? What disqualifies a particular pony from your selection? What strength/weakness do you see, or not see... All we see is like Miss America, a prettiest comparison but nothing about the pony's behavior, attitude, suitability, etc. Or; is it really just a "gut instinct" pick by you and the other contestants - which is actually little more than a guess... not much more.
@CZMustangs
@CZMustangs 3 года назад
I was hoping to be able to explain my view on selection in this video but never got a chance to get the footage I wanted. I am planning on making another video explaining how I chose what I wanted... but in a somewhat short explanation; The main things I was looking for in a mustang to choose were their build, I prefer a smaller and stocky build...that they had a kind eye, and what their overall behavior was while going through the chute set up. These horses get sent through the chute's DAILY as many trainers go through that pen of geldings to pick them out. I personally didn't want one that was completely terrified going through the chutes after being sent through nearly everyday for over a month, even though it doesn't bother me usually, picking out for a competition I was looking for one that learnt and adapted to the process. The guy I picked had a bit of rear in him in the chutes, but to me that's not that big of a deal. Overall, he was quiet in my perspective, had a very soft eye, and was the exact build I love and prefer. I personally don't care about color, I mainly own "plain" horses, but I wanted something with a bit of chrome to catch someones eye as he will have to go through an auction to find his adopter. What sealed the deal for me as far as "behavior", when he was in the narrowed down group, he wasn't an instigator, he just followed the crowd... even when one was jumping all over him and shoving into him, he didn't blow up, he just went with the flow. I really liked that about him. And of course, in the end, it's about which one is speaking to you and drawing you in, even after you go through your little checklist.
