What size boxing glove should I buy?
Hey Punch Fitter’s!
In this video I go over typical categories that I group combat enthusiasts in and how I use those categories to suggest the proper glove size from open palm MMA gloves to 16-ounce gloves.
I know that this is a topic that many people are very passionate about so If my opinion contradicts your coaches it doesn’t mean either of us is wrong. Stick with your coach’s direction as their recommendations are based on experience and your current style of training.
Thank you for taking the time to watch our video.

@@punchfit9988 Hey I'm 28 years old, 5'11 height and weight 175lbs. What boxing glove size is right for me?
@punchfit9988
@punchfit9988 3 года назад
@@h.9089 Hi Henry! There are several different answers to this question depending on how you train. If you are boxing as a supplement to strength training program or just for the fun and fitness element I suggest going with the 16oz. This size glove will offer more padding and offer a little more room inside the glove making it easier to get them on and off to incorporate resistance training with boxing. The glove also will add one pound to each hand as you train which may not seem like a lot but after a full workout your arms will be on fire! If you are more advanced and training in an actual boxing gym with other fighters then I would recommend a medium sized glove 14oz. This is what most coaches would suggest based on your height and weight. I am 5'6" and weigh 165. If I was going by the typical size chart I would be using a 12oz but I feel most comfortable in a 10oz glove. I hope this helped, if you are looking for some great workouts that offer boxing and Cross Training checkout Punch Fit TV. Try it FREE for five days and you can cancel at any time. Hello. I have a standing boxing bag, it is made of foam and when I hit it, it goes back and forth. My problem is that when I hit too hard, I can feel the iron supporting it, and ultimately end up getting my knuckles messed up. Which glove size would you recommend for my situation? Thanks in advance

I like some of the lighter glove options for general fitness work since I have disabilities that make added weight sometimes a harmful thing for my body :) my joints like to pop out of socket and I have nerve issues so sometimes a full pound is to much for me :)!

@punchfit9988
@punchfit9988 3 года назад
You are going to love advancing from the heavy bag to pad work and sparring! It is a completely different training style not only physically but mentally as well. For sparring you may want to work with 14oz-16oz at your weight. For pad work 12oz-10oz with a good training partner. When I mean by "good training partner" someone that is skilled with holding the mitts. If your partner is new and you find them hitting your gloves with the mitt instead of allowing you to hit the mitt with your glove you will experience some major discomfort and possibly injury with a smaller glove. Regardless of size make sure that you wrap your hands correctly to avoid injury. Most important as you advance to sparring and mitt work invest in a great coach and follow their instruction on what glove size to use even if it differs from my recommendation. Your coach's direction will carry more weight than mine as they will make recommendations based on their program and your skill level. I hope this helps and if you are looking for some home workouts checkout www.punchfittv.com and used promo code: RU-vid20 for a 20% discount off your first order. -Chris

If you are training in a self-defense facility speak with your trainer to get the right gloves to work with their program. If you are training at a gym by yourself checkout these 8 oz. gloves by Hayabusa. These are the same gloves my son uses when we train on the heavy bag or focus mitts. Make sure that your properly wrap your hands, clench your fists tightly, and lockout the wrist when striking. Hope this helps! -Chris

@punchfit9988
@punchfit9988 3 года назад
Hi Clint! Thank you for reaching out, I have a 13 year old son and he is using 8oz boxing gloves from Hayabusa. This is a perfect for him as he is just around 100 pounds. If you find yourself under 90 pounds consider a 6oz glove and if you are over 100 pounds jump into a 10oz glove. Some other things to consider make sure you wrap your hands and I wouldn't recommend hitting a heavy bag without working with a coach. My son trains mainly on a free standing bag (considerably softer that a traditional heavy bag) and on focus mitts. Hitting a heavy bag without proper coaching can increase you chance of injury however if you have the skills you would be fine. If you are looking to purchase a new boxing glove checkout the Hayabusa S4 for Youth. These just came out and we love them! The glove is loaded with features perfect for a teen striker that include: 🥊Splinted padding supports and aligns hands & wrists 🥊Injected-molded foam delivers shock absorbing knuckle protection 🥊Hand ergonomics and natural fit reduces hand strain 🥊Microfiber thumb makes it easy to wipe away sweat 👍 Here is a link if you want to check them out: www.hayabusafight.com/products/hayabusa-s4-youth-epic-boxing-gloves?variant=39678670373046 And if you are looking for some workouts checkout Punch Fit TV and use promo code RU-vid20 for a 20% discount off your first purchase. www.punchfittv.com -Chris

5'9 weigh 158lbs 15 year old heavy bag training is 10z good?
@punchfit9988
@punchfit9988 3 года назад
Yamete, Thank you for reaching out!!! Depending on the skill level of the user I generally recommend 16oz for someone that is new to boxing, however depending on the size of the teen this may leave too much room in the glove that could increase the chance of injury when hitting a heavy bag. Based on the information you provided 10oz-12oz is perfect for someone of this size for general use such as mitt and heavy bag work. If the teen is looking more for advanced work like sparing you may want to jump up to a 14oz-16oz but I would check with the gym and follow the coaches guidance. Here are some important factors to stress to the athlete when striking: 1) DO NOT rely on the boxing glove or hand wrap to protect the fist and hand. When punching the fist must be CLENCHED and wrist LOCKED to avoid injury. 2) Invest in a good high quality brand when purchasing a boxing glove. I am a big fan of Hayabusa T3. www.hayabusafight.com/products/t3-boxing-gloves?variant=29618349473905 3) There are several ways to wrap properly, if you need help checkout this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Oep2BoAlSek.html Finally if you are looking for awesome heavy bag, MMA, and CrossTraining workouts checkout our fitness streaming service Punch Fit TV. I still don't understand which factors do I have to take into consideration when I am gonna buy my boxing gloves. I am 17 year old female, about 1.60cm and 53 kg I am training at home (I have a boxing bag) and I am doing it for fitness (get toned up, increase my strength etc). What number oz do I choose from the online shop?
@punchfit9988
@punchfit9988 2 года назад
Hi Venice!! If you are only doing boxing for fitness I recommend going with 16 oz. and this is why: 1) More padding in increase protection especially if you don't have a coach to help with form. 2) Will help increase strength and tone the arms. 3) Working out with 1 pound weights (16 oz.) weights to your would for 20-30 minutes will increase the intensity of the workout. If you ever decide to spar or join a self-defense training facility follow what the coach/ trainer recommends for their program. No matter what size you go with always wrap your hands, clench fist tightly, and lock out the wrist when striking.
