Ready to start boxing with a heavy bag? Need beginner heavy bag gloves? We’ve rounded up the BEST boxing gloves for a heavy bag. Here’s what you need to know. In this video, FightCamp Trainer Coach PJ shares the best boxing gloves for a heavy bag and working out at home.
Do I Need Boxing Gloves For a Heavy Bag?
The short answer is yes. Punching a heavy bag with gloves increases punch power and endurance--the added protection of the boxing gloves allows you to deliver stronger punches. Heavy bag boxing gloves also provide additional support to your wrist and protect your knuckles, minimizing the risk of injury.
What Weight Boxing Gloves Should I Get?
This is a common question that many beginner boxers have. Boxing gloves are sized using ounces.
Hanging heavy bags can weigh anywhere between 70 to 150 pounds, while freestanding heavy bags can weigh 350+ pounds. Workouts on heavy bags are usually focused on strength training as the heavy bag resists your strikes more than a normal bag.
How To Choose The Best Boxing Gloves For a Heavy Bag
Spending any amount of money on a new hobby, workout, or lifestyle can seem daunting at first. We have compiled a list and evaluated some of the best heavy bag gloves for beginners. These are the four factors to consider when purchasing your first pair of heavy bag gloves:
- Safety - Look for wrist support and proper padding
- Quality & Durability - How long will these boxing gloves last you during training?
- Price - What are you willing to invest to buy gloves for boxing training?
- Look/Aesthetic
The gloves found in this review:
Title Boxing Gloves - bit.ly/32UP50I
Everlast Gloves Classic - bit.ly/38wKEKK
Everlast Gloves Pro Series - bit.ly/32XKH0K
FightCamp Gloves - bit.ly/32YLoXR
-----------
Title White Glove
- Price: $149; an expensive starter glove
- Glove lasts longer than a usual glove
- Withstands typical wear and tear
- Wrist area is not well-supported, potentially leading to injury
- Decent look, mesh can lead to discoloration
- Would recommend this glove for fighters who aren’t concerned with price
Everlast Gloves Classic
- Price: around $30
- Very low-quality, can lead to tears and rips in the glove
- Lack of durability can lead to injury and need for new gloves
- Glove structure does not offer much for safety for wrist or knuckles
- Not much visual appeal
- Would not recommend this glove unless on a tight budget
Everlast Gloves Pro Series
- Price: around $50
- Quality of the glove is slightly better than the Classic
- Glove can last you a bit longer in terms of durability, but likely only a few months with consistent use
- Wrist strap does not give good support
- Color scheme and design is more streamlined than others
- Would only recommend if on a tight budget
FightCamp Gloves
- Price: $149; affordable and top tier gloves
- Foam in the glove is hand-rolled, increasing quality, comfort, and durability
- Stands up to consistent use on many different bags
- Knuckle grips within the gloves provide extra protection
- Wrist wrap offers proper wrist support and comfort, preventing injuries
- Molding, texture, and layout is streamlined, providing a professional boxing look
- Would highly recommend due to price, quality/durability, and safety
Making the Choice
Based on our analysis and the criteria upon which we evaluated the four gloves above, you can now confidently purchase your first pair of heavy bag gloves. Remember to consider price, durability, quality, and safety when choosing your first pair. No one wants to be sidelined by injury early into their boxing journey. And remember to fight on.
Remember, every fighter is different. Make sure to choose the glove you feel is right for you.

I have a really densely packed heavy bag, and my two favorite pairs of gloves are my RB10s and my Cleto Reyes gloves. The RB10s have great protection and wrist support, but I don’t love the way my fist feels. Sometimes I have to clench my fist harder than normal to make a good fist. The Cleto Reyes training gloves are perfect for me though. Not much in the area of wrist support, but I have great snap on the bag and the thumb position is perfect for me. Definitely excited to try these fight camp gloves though☺️

I need a Boxing Glove Recommendation. I am looking for Gloves that help me *Curl my hand into a fist* even if my hand is fairly relaxed. My current Glove (nEverlast) opens my hand and I don't like clenching my fist harder than it should whenever I throw consecutive explosive punches.

Did you find something? I just ordered a everlast MMA style heavy bag glove but it seems to have an open thumb onto it. I am wondering if that's okay for boxing and if that will be more prone to thumb injury?
@xyon9090
@xyon9090 2 года назад
@@rushiljain6541, no that's normal. If its a Heavy Bag gloves, that's usually how they design it. You won't hurt your thumb if you form a proper fist. The thumb protection for fight gloves is more for the safety of your opponent than your hand's protection.

Winning, ONX, Fly or Rival would be good choices. If price is a major factor go with one of Rival's gloves.

The things I look for when trying out a new glove is making sure there's enough padding in the front / that the padding isn't too hard, that the strap is tough and easy to get tight and that the thumb isn't floating or squeezing my thumb too much (I find some gloves have a really small thumb section that ache my thumb over time from the pressure).

I've used Everlast shields before as my very first pair. they did not last three months of heavy bag work every other day. The padding started to get sharp some how, the lining came apart, and it stank while wearing wraps and placed dryer sheets in them to soak up the smell.

I appreciate the review! Wish I would have seen this earlier. I hurt my wrist in November from those black everlast gloves. Took a few months off to heal. Came back then hurt it at work! Same spot. Am likely moving back to the 12s, as I've heard it's easier to boost output (with the FightCamp trackers) with 12s... hope that the soreness doesn't return. Maybe they'll do 14oz gloves??

You may need 20oz or up to 22oz. You may have to go custom to get a glove that gives you thew best level of protection. Go for a laceup glove if you have someone who can tie them up for you always as you get a better level of wrist support.

Would cheap gloves be acceptable if one is a true beginner? I mean, keep in mind that a real beginner would not have the strength to punch in such a way that would hurt his/her hands. On the other hand, if one is a total beginner, it is possible too that one is also lacking the technique to punch properly and not get hurt (especially in the wrist)... Lastly, one might not even be fit enough to do too much damage while wearing 12 or 16 oz gloves....All is new.

The video is well made, but i dont quite understand why the title sais "best gloves" and the first 3 gloves are sh*t. Why not make a seperate list on what NOT to buy so we can have 5 good gloves instaid of 2? Anyways have a nice day! :)
