A segment from "Vitality"...A television series about living a healthy and less stressed life. Today we learn how to pick wild sage...Elder Wilfred Buck also has some great advice for us about getting through those rough patches in life.
Crying is the 1st emotions one expresses at Birth. Our creator above hears our 1st cry. Our Mother Earth hears our 1st cry. When we pray, we thank the Creator and Mother Earth 1st. When we die, we go bck to Mother Earth who embraces us once more.
And don't pull it by the root. We want it to be available for our children and our grandchildren... our great grandchildren..😁 Thank you, Mother Earth for the medicines you provide 🙏 👍😁
respect to our ancestors from thousands upon thousands of many many moons. I would also love to know spend time and learn what is being neglected by many of us . deep blessing to all who see the sun rise and see the sun sleep
Natives deserve so much respect they have been thru so much history and love of the earth and all living things. I am also native Cherokee my native name is Ah Koh Ya
Wow, I couldn't help but cry to this... when he started talking about the sage, and how they consider it a living thing, and how you speak to it and tell it your intentions, and thank it. Then to actually give something back to the earth, (a give, receieve relationship, I take care of you, you take care of me, you wash my back, I wash your back.) God that's so deep. It just showed me how disconnected we've become, and how we really need to get back on that level. GO HUG A TREE BITCHS! Or maybe just go camping on the weekends.... :) Interestingly enough, this earth is a living organism that is a conscious being, with full and complete awareness of itself, and is capable of response to stimuli. Maybe there's actually something behind what some would call woo woo "hippie philosophy".
That is a common perception in almost every indigenous practices, including European. But it's always nice to see this kind of thing in a world that always seems so disconnected.
I am not an elder but anyone can smudge...but maybe the first time you do it give thanks to indigenous people's for the ceremony and thank mother earth for the medicines
Meh, my community doesn't enforce rules like that say if you're out in the middle of a city and need to smudge. If you need to smudge, just do it! LoL Its like trying to say you need to use a Paua/abalone Shell for it to be sacred. That was introduced by crazy New Age hippies that sell services they have no rights to. ;)
When it comes to smudging or any practice like this I only want to hear from the Native Americans. When they speak you hear the healing in there voice and you gain a deeper understanding why this is done. I can't stand these other video out here on RU-vid talking about smudging. I know they mean well but I rather hear from the Native American people.
I agree it is derived from native Americans culture but, these practices have touched many people. I have been using it since I got cancer and have been for over ten years so I’m very educated on the subject. If I didn’t have these herbs I think I would be dead. It helped me spiritually and physically.
James, do you feel better? You think youre putting other people down with your replies but i guarantee not one of your targeted victims felt anything but pity for you. Do yourself a favor and when a helping word of free advice comes around, dont pass it up and try to be grateful. Just a wild guess but im pretty sure there arent many willing to help you out. There's definitely a reason for that. And youre still at the stage that youre proud of yourself.

I have become such a lover of the moon and stars. I was finally blessed to purchase a telescope and I go out almost every night for star gazing. Let’s not mention the full moon. 😍😘😍
Love our brother's and sister's of the First Nations...I miss my family and the way of the Elders. Our sweet plant peoples are hurting terribly, all creations are.....keep the ways..my eyes are full of love....
This story really hits me. My grandmother was Native American and her father migrated here from central Mexico. I come from a very broken family both my parents are addicts and my mother has never really opened up to me about her life growing up. I have some memories of my grandmother and my great grandfather. Unfortunately, she passed away 4 years ago before my son was born so I never really got to talk to her about her heritage. However; I moved to North Dakota when I was 21 and I lived on a reservation for about 2-3 years and I have to say that, it was life changing for me. I seen all walks of life while I was there. I learned so much and experienced so many things good and bad and it really opened my eyes to so many things. The energy in these places is so powerful that it is common for negative energies to grab onto you. Some of my craziest stories come from living on a reservation. But all in all I met some of the most amazing people and experienced a culture that I would have otherwise known nothing about and I’m very thankful. Til this day I still use the teachings I was taught, and even gift sage or other plants that I find to people who I feel could use it. I’m forever grateful for the kindness and wisdom that I received while I was there. It’s truly beautiful. ♥️
Omg your story 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽Native Americans are my real heroes. It’s painful what america history holds … and how miserably NA still live there in those reservations… I hope I would also have some chance in my life meet native Americans and visit their reservations and be helpful there. Thank you for sharing your story 🙏🏽 I was just searching for sage bundle information and couldn’t skip this video when I saw the Native American speaking about it. Big love ❤️❤️❤️
I had a rough day and went by the herb shop for supplements and there was a whole table of sage..... i immediately came home and smudged ... I’m so calm now
Sage is also an anti-inflammatory, great for any inflammation like headaches, menstral pain, swelling, back pain etc.. if on medication please check with your doctor re combining medicines 💜
Wish I could find this sage in the wild. You can purchase quality herb quite easily, but there's something special about finding it in your own environment.
You can find ceremonial white sagebrush on the Continental Divide in the spring about June is the best because it is growing and is tender, full of oil. Remember to bless and thank the sage before you pick. Give back what you take. Tobacco or living water. Pick in the morning just as the dew has almost left. Montana, Idaho and Colorado, is where it is abundant. Large sage is a sign of good soil and good grasses. Short sage soil is not growing as fast, pass it by. Hope that helps you in your quest for healing and vitality.
I found started plants at Farm store garden area last Spring, and grew well all Summer..We had very cold temp. last night 8 deg. Hope that I can still use some of it..
First learned from a young Navajo man, carried a small bundle. We all had bad stomachs from some water in Sycamore Canyon, Arizona. One was too sick to get out of the van and see the Grand Canyon. We picked him up, his grandmother and sister, heading toward the Rez. He gave us each some to chew. We all got better soon. Having stomach issues from painkillers and remembered how much it helped, many times after that. My son brought me back some from Nevada, without being asked. Just telepathy. Thanks. See you on FB, where i can tell the rest of the story.
So good to see someone who has came so far!! I know so many that I truly hope watch this & think of the possibilities for their own growth!! We all need this wisdom from elders such as Elder Wilfred!! This shows people a glimmer of light & the hope for development in our lives!! Remember that there is nothing wrong with crying!! As he says this is part of the healing process!! Crying & laughter!! We need both in our lives!! :)) Thank you Elder Wilfred!!
Wilford...you MADE me cry watching your story... I have DESTROYED myself in my lifetime drinking away my pain by not knowing my biological father up until two yrs ago..the third DNA test in my life proved that I had FINALLY found him and he is half QUAPAW Indian from Oklahoma...so much came to light for me..my alcoholism FINALLY had a source...I had been SOBER for 8 yrs up until last yr.when I fell from the wagon and got severely intoxicated with my father and drank copius amounts of whiskey..I fell into a blackout and my husband found my birthfather raping my DRUNKEN BODY...I searched for 44 fukn yrs for this man...to make me whole..to complete my life..And for THIS?? IDK WTF I'm going to do..how to get past this terrible feeling and HELL that I'm living in..I'm now a registered tribal member of the QUAPAW Indian tribe...but I am in Oregon and so far away from the people I long for to know..to show me the ways of the past to heal myself...As he sits in a jail cell awaiting trial I sit in my OWN Prison wondering why EVERYDAY I was chosen to CARRY THIS burden...and I feel like I've been robbed of my past, present and future...Why did this happen?? I planted sage in my garden this spring and came across your beautiful INTERVIEW...I hope with all my heart you see my post.... blessings my friend...
Jennifer You owe it to yourself to get past this. It's probably a blessing that you went without his presence for 44 years. Rid that awful memory and move on. Don't let that define you. Consider he was probably so drunk he didn't know what he was doing. He will live with the guilt. Rise above and be happy. Life is too short.
I am do sorry to hear that something so horible has happened to you. That is probably why our our creator kept him away from you. I cant imagine the pain your in especially after searxhing for him for so long. I hope that you can find peace and happiness. God bless
Hi, I am so sorry this happened to you...Prayers up for you Jennifer...Yes Wilfred is amazing! so his story is testament that we can get through the toughest things in life...smudge your house and say a prayer for guidance and strength...sending you much luv
Beautiful and powerful. Just take some time and respect for whats inside of you and that then resonates and touches everything and everyone you come in contact with. After all, we are everything and all is connected. LOVE, LIGHT AND PEACE.
It took me 11 years to see this great message from the creator, that is the path. Thank you for all you have done to keep the information available. 🙏❤
So helpful I too have struggled with alcohol addiction and know so many who do Most are still living but a few who were close to me have died one most recently in the spring Practices such as smudging keeps away negative energy and provides grounding This is right on time as there is a large pow wow occurring in my community this weekend. I plan on attending We can learn a lot from our Native brothers and sisters Thanks for the upload☺💝🎆
I am very impressed by all the positive feedback. Thank you for sharing your ways and wisdom, Your dreams gave you the path to your true spirit, may all ho have shared your iner peace take from it and give it back.
Thank you for posting videos about the healing relationships between people and plants. I am Passamaquoddy and I am always glad to hear from my Northern neighbors.
Russian Survivalist Sage Sweetgrass even Rosemary can help your spirit. Try to remember the enemy the negative energy will only attach to your life if you allow it.☺
Weeping openly is important for others to see a strong person do. It teaches others that it is no shame to carry their feelings in honesty. Modeling strength and sensitivity together, is allowing the great spirit within you to shine through you, illuminating all around you.
Thank you for the teaching and for your honesty as well, it is good to tell people however bad things get it doesn't have to stay that way if you have the will to change. Sage smudging is also good if you have any special feathers it will keep them in the best condition.
Thanks I feel the spiritual world is awesome and they are talking to me through this video. I have been thinking for some time about how to pick or gather my own sage. I know now when, how and what to look for. WADO
I thank the viewers for learning a bit more of our ancestors, now that knowledge lives within you as well. Without you, this living blessing would die.
This was a great segment, I got a lot out of it. Elder Wilfred, I am just coming out the other side of what you were talking about and feel enlightened. Thank you for your wisdom, a lot of it rang home. Melinda Rhodes

Lomewe, luwe na okwes xu laxakwihele xkwithakamika. Long ago it was said that a fox will be loosened on the earth. Ok nen luwe newa ahasak xu peyok. Also it was said four crows will come. The second crow tried to clean the world, but he became sick and he died. Nexeneit ahas weneyoo ankelek xansa ok koshiphuwe. The third crow saw his dead brother and he hid. The Second Crow symbolized the death and destruction of our culture. The Third Crow was our people going underground and hiding. The Fourth Crow was the Lenape becoming caretakers again and working with everybody to restore this land."
Blwessing to you PhNtomfreakV 2 and good luck on your journey. Remember that the bad that happens in our lives is all part of the adventure of life. Having experienced what you have will make you appreciate the blessings yet to come to you. These plants will help you grow spiritually and help guide you back to the good path.
My boyfriend grew white sage in his container garden this year. It is SO much stronger than regular sage. It actually is somewhat sticky from all the white crystals on it. It is still alive too even in the middle of November :) I would love to try smudging the house with it.
Great video. Wilfred Buck you are an incredible person. Thank you for sharing this information with us. Returning to traditional ways is difficult without guidance, but people like you make it easier. Peace and love your way dear Elder.
