The formidable ERA Fortress is a 3 star British Standard euro cylinder with many security features including 6 trap pins. Even LPL resorted to a plug spinner rather than picking out of the the trap pins. Let's see how I do!

Anti snap protection and drill and bump resistance for exterior door euros should be mandatory. Surely those trap pins can be used to trap a bump key

Agreed. My own door had a cheap euro fitted when I moved in. Of course, it was upgraded pretty quickly!

I have 3 of these, and have only managed to open 1. I’m not sure why but I find them really difficult!

Does this cylinder have the emergency and danger function? Can I unlock the cylinder from the outside while a key is inserted on the inside?

Definitely refer to my pictures in the server. You'll see that getting it apart is fairly easy but getting it back together is another story especially as both inside and outside ends. Pins 5 and 6 have nowhere to go once the steel centre is removed. Would make for a great video if you succeed with a way

Just seen this, and you have the key entry point to the bottom of your vice. meaning the 6 trap pins are to the top allowing gravity to drop them. But every Euro Lock I have ever seen installed in a door has the key entry to the top and the narrow end to the bottom. So how effective are the trap pins when fitted in a door this way. Because either every one of thees locks Are installed up side down. Or you picked it upside down So one wonders would the 6 trap pins even come into play with the lock installed as I have seen them with the key entry to the top. Let us know how you get on.

The trap pins are sprung so the lock orientation doesnt affect their operation. As a hobby lock picker, I just prefer to pick locks with 'pins up'. Its usual for euros to be installed 'pins down' though, as you mentioned.

good video. any idea why there is a knotch on the end of the key?

No idea actually, I'll have to open it up and take a look soon 👍🏻

@@Dmaclocksport thanks. Looking forward to it. As far as I know with other keys a knotch like that would lock the key when turned 180°. The 6th pin would drop and the key would get stuck. This is a 6 pin lock so I'm curious to how it would turn after 180°?

Why oh why do you professional lock pickers always seem to pick locks upside down, do you suppose that they are fitted in doors that way?
@Dmaclocksport

🤘🏻😄 I'm not a professional lock picker. I'm a hobby lock picker. I do it for my own personal enjoyment. I have no interest in picking locks in real world situations or simulating real world conditions, so I pick them whichever way pleases me. I did however address picking locks 'upside down' in a recent video. I'll find the link.

With your knowledge, skill and tools, I'd say that you are professional, or you could easily be. I watch these videos because I am trying to choose a good lock which is not easily breached by the common slime ball whose hands I'd like to chop off. I am not interested in lock picking so I want to see them being picked and broken into by a non specialist while it's inside the door. How about doing a vid specially for the nervous scared homeowners like me who simply want to compare the effectiveness of locks? @@Dmaclocksport

Yes, with this cylinder the key can operate if there's a key in the otherside of the lock 👍🏻
