I set up a planted pickle jar aquarium with no filter and follow its progression through 2 months without a single water change or any maintenance. Buy the light from my shop: aquavivashop.co.uk/
I did this with a jar same size, miracle grow cactus blend, a small layer of perlite, and outback sand you get at petco for bearded dragons. Popped some swords, a moss ball, and bonsai lotus in it then topped it off with an in jar pathos and some snails I found in a local creek. That thing is crystal clear and grows like crazy. Plants are constantly pearling. I though about adding a few Lil nano fish but I'm gonna give it a few more months just to be extra cautious but from the looks of it, it thrives better than any actual aquarium I've ever had
Fascinating, the main drawback for me is where to get the selection of plants and as to what total cost, eg having just bought 3 parrot feather plants for my barrel pond offline, they were 3 of the skiniest shortest single strand plants(?) that cost £6! I am eager to use some type of similar design as I have just odered 16 medaka eggs and now I think I'm stumped. it is still quite cold here in the uk and these will be my first ever attempt with rice fish and I have no indoor set up thus the fascination with yours. I would be exceptionally grateful for any advice or ideas. Great videos by the way, you certainly know your aquatics! kind regards, Tony.👍
Let’s hope that snail that landed on the rock didn’t take it personal. Snail: “So that’s how it’s gonna be, huh? I’ll be back, let me gather my troops”
Sorry if this is a silly question but how do you control the amount of snails? with water changes I suppose it would be possible to just suck some out with a hose but trying to net them would spoil the scape?
Hi, I am on this project too, with almost a 5 liters jar, may I ask you wich kind of light you used? I am clueless about it, but i know plants have specific needs in light, so what to choose? Please help me with it, thanks in advance. Your aquarium jar is outstanding! 😍
I have one that's over 2 years old now, it has a few tiny cherry shrimp that survive on whatever is in it. I haven't taken anything or added anything but water. It's closed except for a 3mm hole in the lid.
No tadpoles for your pond yet l have just set up the oase 1000 litre one but it’s still to cold for frog spawn at my local pond im in Scotland so my climate is similar to yours
May I ask for some advice? When I had a 60L fish tank last year, some bladder snails would appear off plants we would buy for it, but they would start to lay eggs and then there would be lots of snails (which is fine) but a lot of what I believe was their poop at the bottom of the tank!😭 I had soil for the plants as well as some gravel, but the poop was always noticeable as it would pile up. Is there any way I can prevent this in the future? Some sort of natural way of reducing the amount or a way for it to compose into the soil? Any help would be very appreciated, thank you!!
listen, you can siphon off the snail or fish poop out of a tank, but in a healthy ecosystem aquarium, it just decomposes and then plants will use it as their food source. so you kinda have to decide if you want it clean or healthy. it's another thing if there is way too much of it though, because that produces ammonia which can kill your fish 😅 but in that case one should add more plants to the aquarium rather than tumble up the bottom layer
Boiling it in a big pot for 20 minutes it'll be sterilized. Just be careful as it's glass, cover the pot to prevent an accident as the glas might explode.
@@AquaViva1 Lots of infusaria in there! Did it all "come with" the plants, or from the soil on the bottom? Pond mud, or terrestrial dirt? Thanks for the time to answer!
