I think this is a case of a bride fixating on the 1920s without realizing she doesn't actually like 1920s style.

I'm starting to wonder if people know what was in style in the 1920's, because a fitted waist, floor length mermaid isn't it. 1920's brides would opt for a straight sillhouette, drop waist, and hemline that wouldn't go above the knee, but never floor length, Juliette Cap style, and very lengthy veil. Edit: So many fashion historians in the comment section, though. Love that for us, and see you all in another Karolina Żebrowska video lol.

Kates Moss great wedding dress was a homage to the 20s because of the veil. But this bride's dresses have nothing to do with the 20s.

She was less lucky and more clueless. She said 20s but clearly wanted something 40s or 50s. 20s dresses were literal sacks with no figure hugging going on. The idea was to look as boyish as possible, waiflike, boxy. She wanted Hollywood starlet. Those two ideas are worlds apart.

I think the problem when brides mention one decade they feel inspired by, what they generally mean is the Hollywood take on the decade, and not the actual style of the time, so I think it would have been great for the consultants to ask a bit more about the shapes and fabrics she likes and not focus so much on the 20's elegance tagline.

This woman does NOT know what a 1920s silhouette is. The dress she chose is gorgeous, but definitely not 1920s. Which is fine, but when she kept insisting on 1920s and hating all of the 1920s dress and David called her out on it, she said she isn't confused. She isn't "picky", just misguided in her historical fashion.

She did NOT explain it perfectly. She wanted 20's, and the first gown was the most 20's I have ever seen at that shop. Then she stated herself that she did not know what she wanted when talking to David. She also said the dresses were too boring, but she chose the plainest dress she tried on.
@bunnyslippers191

@@catladyfromky4142 The most 20's looking dress was the one she liked the least. She does not know what the 20's dresses and the entire "20's look" was about. The only thing she got correct for the style is the dropped waist she said she wanted, but then abandoned as not what she wanted. The dress she ended up getting was very late 1950's/early 1960's evening dress, especially the neckline and the detailing around the neck.

The problem is that she has no idea what a 1920s shape is. The first dress was closest to a 20s style, but even that had too much shape. It's so tedious to hear women called "picky" when they're not thrilled with dropping a month's rent (or more) on a dress that vaguely meets the description they've asked for. Now, if you want to argue that wedding dresses aren't the end of the world and plenty of women throughout history got married in their best outfit, I'm with you. Probably not the energy to take to work if your job is to part women from their money for the 'perfect' dress.

If you go and look for 1920s, it shows you varied dresses because most of them are inspired and not actually the 20s style. If you're bending towards a certain style, you must bring some pictures/ drawings to base an idea to go with...

@@catladyfromky4142 well, if they hated Diana’s dress… why on earth would they go to the man who designed it? The point isn’t “Diana shouldn’t have worn the dress she did” it’s “I hate his designs and would never see him for a wedding dress”.

@@caissafrass6631 I realize that the OP didn't like the dress, but she(?) acted like the "nightmare" opinion is consensus rather than just her personal opinion. Lots of people liked her dress, so much that an entire decade of wedding dresses had aspects of her dress incorporated into them. Like it or not, her dress was loved by many at that time. Styles change, so judging a dress by today's stylistic appeal or, like the OP, acting like her opinion serves as THE opinion is rather egocentric.

Am I the only one who think she looks like Edith from Downtown Abbey?

It’s the neckline. That third neckline was perfect for her. Nothing else sat right.

If she wants a beautiful 20's wedding dress, look to the wedding dress Lady Edith wore on Downton Abbey. Tat dress out shown the sack of a dress Lady Mary wore for her wedding on the show.
