What a wonderful presentation on ADC. I have never heard of 'Taylor expansion'. My guess it is more efficient to move bits around than it is to do (x*2 to the power of 4) to convert from 12 bits to 16 bits. The glitchiness of the Pico ADC and not getting to zero has been documented. Something to do with the closeness of the ADC section of the 2040 chip to other sections causing noise I think. So I don't think a better potentiometer will help. Thanks for another great video from Lori's Robots.

I have been finding that the noise (throughout the range Min to Max) is very low if I don't move the pot. That is what made me think that higher quality pot might help. But I agree - there appear to limits on how much you can improve the noise. There may be some hardware solutions as well but my electronic circuit knowledge is lacking to investigate those at this point. Thanks for watching and sharing your comments!

Yes I can follow your logic. I now have a good idea for a project. Reading tones from ham radio frequency 😊

Thanks for your kind words. If you follow my pico w series from the start, the episodes build skills as you go. Thanks for watching!

Suggest that you use these pins as there is noise on main 3.3 and ground . and add a capacitor on adc input and AGRND ADC_VREF ADC pin power supply voltage, filtered from the 3.3V supply on the board. (Pin 35) AGND Ground reference for GPIO26-29, connected to a separate analog ground plane. Can be linked to digital ground. (Pin 33)

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried something like this before but did not see much improvement. May give it another go.

Interesting. I created a little circuit to read a battery voltage fraction on the ADC and it's not too bad in the numbers. The voltage (around 1.75 volts) multiplied back is pretty close to my multimeter readings directly on the battery. Not sure where the project is going yet.

Try battery power and display on the oled ? very nice explanation, thanks maybe try an external adc convertor, adafruit has 3 ADS1115 16-Bit or ADS1015 12-bit, or mcp3008 10-bit

Good suggestion! I was thinking of adding in an external ADC. I will share my next steps in future video. Thanks for watching!
