Thanks! I am trying hard to get these done while traveling in my RV. I often don’t have good internet access

@@lorisrobots Sounds like fun. Maybe you can start a Lori's Travels YT channel.

Gave me an idea to try for starting a SPI display or use it with a Pico W later.

try to print a chr(128) or higher, it will give a block, used it in a clock to show big numbers, using 5 oleds rotated on their side, did not use an external chip to select each oled, pico is fast enough to build an i2c object to talk to the oled we want, but instruct the pico to have the old i2c pins set as serial first, an oled does not need constant communication.

well explained! would love to know what all you take in the rv (electronic wise). also would love to see you do more on using gimp. you have a calm style. Check out steamhead and his steampunk writing machine, very cool.

Thanks for watching! I need to learn more about what GIMP can do. Just starting to learn. I do plan to show what I take while traveling. This camping season will be my first real try at doing projects on the road. Access to internet is always a challenge 🙂!

What a useful video. One question. For filled rect you added an extra parameter True. Most docs I have looked at use a separate method fill_rect for filled rectangles. Will either work with this 1306 library (module)? I guess I can dig up a 1306 and try it myself. Looking forward to parts 2 and 3. Thanks.

Thanks for watching and for your feedback! I demoed the methods from the framebuf module that are documented in the Micropython docs online. I am sure there are other modules that have more methods available.

Nice project, but the display is much too small to be useful

Thanks for watching! These displays were probably created for cell phones. They are very cheap so many people use them to learn on and use in applications that don't need a large display. I agree a bigger display would be even more fun for this project. I hope that folks learn enough from this series to try using a bigger display (perhaps even color) themselves.

You would be surprised with what these can display. I have an ATtiny85 game pcb that plays Pacman on this size screen. It is small but very much usable.

not really! used in many projects.
