That was great, you answered a ton of questions I already had about my Picoscope, so now it's time for me to actually use it. I hope you make more and title them appropriately, because I know you use the scope in alot of your videos, but it's always hard to remember which video made use of the scope, and what was viewed on the scope. Explanation of the trigger was perfect, makes perfect sense now. Having a verbal explanation of the slope helped alot, much better than reading about it.

Nice tip on single trigger, I just bought a Pico 4225 with a floating ground I think that is a big advantage before the scope with shared ground, I rememberer a video where you had some issue with the shared ground. Do not remember what it was for issue I try to find that video. Thanks to your videos I got my self the now how to use a scope and diagnose a car. very good Paul. I have done enough work on pico, thought it might not be useful, but still i got good tips from the session, such as the one delay. I learned it today.. quite useful, second is not to choose the trigger when more than point in the wave form have a position. good lesson learned..

What you need to do with the Verus is save your waveforms on a very small timebase, then zoom out on the capture for your repetition. (save the whole buffer) You just have to remember that the Verus zooms out, not in. So you store your waveforms differently.

Hello all. So I'm a backyard mechanic that works on my families vehicles. I currently use the Autel MS906BT scanner. I'm thinking about adding a scope to toolbox to make life a little more easy (I think!) I was thinking about the Pico 2205A for now since its only a couple hundred bucks. I think 2 channels should be ok? I'm asking all of you to see if anybody had buyers remorse and wished they spent the extra money. Before I know it Ill be 60 so I'm just trying to watch the cash flow. I appreciate and suggestions. Ive been watching Paul on and off for years! He is just amazing with what he does! Anyone is a better person for just knowing this man, inside and outside of the shop!

May be difficult to explain here, but try setting up the scope the way you like it, then click the file tab in the upper right. In that box there is an option "Startup settings", click on this, the "save startup settings". Whenever you open the Pico software or click the "home" icon, the program will be set up the way you left it.

Set up the scope the way you would like it to open up when you start the application, then go to File/Startup Settings/Save Startup Settings. Now, every time you open the app, it will open on those settings. You can also make a bunch of presets by saving a setup using a .pssettings ending to the filename. I have a bunch of these that I use for custom setups.

Paul, when I got my cam and crank signals later on I realized that I didnt have the channels set to AC, but to DC. Did I get a correct waveform with the picoscope set to DC but yet got AC waveforms? P.S. Do you know how to set a "Maths Channel" in picoscope to detect a cylinder misfire by looking at a crank signal using a "Frequency" to see the cylinder drop out by rpm loss?

Well done, looking forward to more. Question. Is the Pico scope accurate compared to a quality DMM when sampling a voltage reading, as well as a converted amperage readings. Is it possible to use the pico to take a ohm reading, just had to ask ? Thanks Paul.
@IMFDB
@IMFDB 7 лет назад
Hey I have a challenging question i wondering if you could answer. GM has just introduced the media oriented systems transport (most) into their radio systems. It is supposed to be a 100 times faster than high speed can bus lan. I've been trying to connect my picoscope 4000 series to it and the radio glitches and mutes when i backprobe the 2 communication wires. same thing happens when i backprobe with my fluke 87. I was wondering does the picoscope draw like the slightest amount of amperage or microamps to gain a reading? i know a high impedance test lamp draws like an amp and it'll definitely short out a common can bus. I was wondering if the same principle applies to this really sensitive communication circuit. could the picoscope or fluke be partially shorting those wires together by something higher than megaohms to gain a voltage reading? I don't believe they've manufactured any tools yet to do live circuit testing for diagnostics yet like using oscilloscopes.
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner 7 лет назад
Yes. Last I checked the PicoScope is a 2 mega ohm impedance meter. Every digital meter or scope will draw a small amount of current from the circuit being tested.

I think some of the problems is the fact your using some high end tools and they dont want to get caught up in all that. Most backyard mechanics dont have that kind of cash laying around to pay for that kind of stuff. We all understand higher end equipment is where you should be, but......im a diy'er and im going for cheaper equipment. If I can find a much cheaper version of a scanner and a scope, im doing that. But there is another problem with doing that, your covering higher end equipment, so why am I going to bother buying a book if your only going to keep showing high end equipment, that means you dont cover the cheaper stuff. Im a diy'er and im considering the book, but my budget doesnt allow for an expensive scanner or a scope, hard to learn something your just picking at let alone a piece of equipment you dont show, so now I have to learn a cheap scanner, cheap scope and then learn what your showing which I may or may not be able to figure out on my own. Ahhh a catch 22 sitting there. But yes, I am considering the purchase.
@ScannerDanner
@ScannerDanner 3 года назад
@@oldiron4135 I promise you that everything I covered in this lesson applies to ALL scopes!! Sure the button pushing will be different but you must look beyond the tool and understand the concepts. There will be some limitations with what you can do with more basic tools. For example, if you are using a 1 channel scope and I have a 4 channel. But this will be the same throughout what I do and what I teach. I am not going to chose a lesser tool when it may not do the function I need. I will show you the testing method and you can use it to understand how to either apply it to the tooling you have or understand where your tool may fall short. So in these cases, I try to provide all alternative testing methods, but sometimes they don't exist! Hope that makes sense. Again, look past the tools and at the lesson. Thank you for your interest!
