I have a recommendation, the slip lane that goes directly into your industry ban personal cars from it because a lot of people are unnecessarily going through the industry instead of going straight to the large roundabout underneath the highway.
@OliverWieland
@OliverWieland 2 года назад
Yes, that also was my thougt. The personal traffic uses the industry area as a shortcut
@RampantFirefly
@RampantFirefly 2 года назад
Or just don't have an interstate going straight into local roads. There's absolutely no need for it and stuff like that (lack of road hierarchy) is what is causing all the problems. Adding more lanes to the slip road just made it worse.

Its really good, so realistic.... my only comment would be the car parking, in many villages, car parks are either hidden behind the shops or at the edge of the village and you have to walk into it. just so the village centre isnt over run with car parks

Suggestion for the Fire station - Fire stations, in my experiences small villages like this have a small garage, maybe even just a metal shed with a volunteer crew and a small Fire engine. They can be found pretty close to the housing and dense areas. Try look for images, a nice example I found while going around the Scottish Highlands was Bridge of Orchy Station.

Yeah, I think he keeps missing it because he's so used to playing with the traffic on the wrong side of the road. He's forgotten that the TM:PE symbols are on the other side of the junction to what he's used to. Not a problem on big roundabouts but small ones when each exit is pretty much on top of the next (as far as nodes are concerned) its harder to notice. I've been pointlessly shouting at my screen since last episode on this one as that's probably all it would have taken to sort the whole traffic issue from the start!

BIFFA, more of this style, pleeeeeeeeeaaase. I love how you laid out all the houses and you custom picked each house to go to a specific spot and then custom landscaped it. Perfect. Agree, moving the farms out into the outer areas will make it more realistic for the rural areas. Houses tend not to be on top of each other and have big yards, open fields and meadows. I'd love to see a well thought out rural build with a small village as the center. Rural Skylines, if you will. Keep up the great vids!

That giant tree is hiding the church. Maybe downsize the tree in from of the steeple. Also a town square. Maybe delete the pub across from the church (shame! ha) and make it a courtyard with a fountain with shops around it. Never saw a train pull up to the train station... Maybe put some farming industry behind the farmhouses. A small fenced space with sheep would look cool. Great work! Love watching.

What I would add to the village if possible: -Post Office -Manor House (maybe with a maze?) -Playground (but nothing too fancy haha) -Some sort of war memorial or cenotaph outside the church or the village hall -maybe some sort of small chalet with a hot tub (for some tourists) -a garden centre And for a village name: Newton (according to Ordinance Survey, the most common village name in the UK) or maybe to make it sound more tea related (and to make it sound like some posh family stuck their name on it in the middle ages or something) - Newton Twinings, Newton Tetley, Newtown Grey (as in Earl Grey)... otherwise: Brewstead, Cuppaton, or Mugford

An amazing start to the village absolutely love it. A few suggestions: - A manor farm with stables (due to the "stable" in Dunkstable. - A windmill - Blacksmiths - Pottery shop/factory - A river - I feel like the map needs one running through connecting the villages to the town. - All the houses need big gardens?

I came here to say that. The church is supposed to be the main focus point and the front point of view is the main focus of the church but the large tree in front diminishes that view. A small tree or flower garden would work well and not take the eye away from the church.

I know a good pack of small streets that might be good for this, “the town” by KPTR2112. It’s a pretty small pack (13 different roads). Just one request: replace the Comic Sans fencing around the church with that wonderful stone wall you surrounded the station with, please. Love that the village green pond is big enough and deep enough to host the HMS Victory! That made me chuckle over my chicken balti pie 'n fried mash (the wonders of working-from-home lunches!). Actually, the Plough & _Sail_ pub would be superbly named I guess... Those "country roads" are US/Canadian (or farm tracks, where they'd be great) so using those to go out into the fields would really work (the tree lined ones remind me of the family farm in Norfolk). Hey Biffa! Have you thought before to encourage traffic to use the outside lane, i.e. not to back up the inside lane and the slip-lane off the highway? Using Traffic Manager, I like to adjust the highway speed limit with the inside-most lane going slowest, and the remaining lanes being designated as overtake lanes with higher speed-limits - you know, like a normal motorway in the UK. That way, the AI will use the faster outside lanes to travel past the highway exits while those wanting to get off the highway must bear towards the slower inside lane. You can change the speed limits per lane and along whole stretches of road (even extending outside of the unlocked map tiles). Maybe you could give this a try, and see if it actually does help :)
@amdkillaplays
@amdkillaplays 2 года назад
There is an option within TMPE to enable different rules that do that without having to mess with the speeds, but I think it only works for roads that the game recognises as highway. Not sure if being in the highway section of the roads tool is enough for that recognition

It's a small English village from the looks of the buildings, possibly Yorkshire, but no cricket green?!?! As others have said, with a church of that size there would eb a country house nearby, possibly turned into a golf club or hotel now. Still remember that golf club built around some high hills, was excellent (Teaville?) and something like that around a Country/Manor house would not be out of place just outside the main "city" Also you have the two farmhouses that you are going to move back. You could add a third do some detailing and call them Farm Boggis, Farm Bunce and Farm Bean!!! As for a village name, Little Tetley . Tetley Row or Long Tetley (there may be a theme to the names!) Really liking this build, long may it continue, though I suspect the residents will be worried that the Green Belt doesn't protect them in a few months time, all that lovely open developme...I mean open countryside, between them and the main city is crying out for a Retail Park I feel!!!

I feel like the big tree in front blocks the view of the church. Also, if you have any Yew tree assets (or can download any) they would be PERFECT for the church, or more specifically, the cemetery in the church. For this village to be accurate, and cul-de-sac shouldn’t be a tarmac road. Idk if you have regular roads without tarmac (I.e. concrete roads) but that’s basically what they’re like… Oh, and also, the houses feel a bit close together. Villages tend to be detached houses, even in the more built up parts of a village. Personal space and all that…They’d also probably have better gardens than the council houses but I’ll let that one slide for your own sanity 😂

How about Little Teasmere .. (reference the lake?) nice old sounding name.. Most small villages don't have the church on the main road.. it's away up a side road usually near the manor house (if that survives). There are usually a shop and post office and school near the crossroads with the village hall and the phonebox and only bus stop.. and something like a small cluster of houses again off a side road nearby for the farm workers. Otherwise it's scattered farms.. I know.. I went to a village school with a total of 21 kids... and every house had a dead car round the back.. sometimes only one.

What about "Biccie Bottoms" for the rural village? Those houses you're thinking of moving might actually be ok there because the new roads will have built up around them, not the other way round. You often have ancient farmhouses weirdly sticking into main roads and on pavements for that reason.

How about Teaton? Also Great Teaton, Small Teaton, Upper Teaton, Lower Teaton... Lean into those Midsomer vibes 😂 it could also be good to get a manor house type building somewhere in the village, like it grew up around the big house.

After two years of watching Biffa play, I’ve finally started playing cities:skylines. With everything I’ve learnt watching and on my forth build, I’m doing really well! Traffic at 90% with 55,000 population. If you don’t play, get at it, it’s hell of a lot of fun 😁 Thanks for the videos Biffa, love watching them and implementing everything you do

High BinkTea or High BiffTea as a nod to the originally generated name and the very English tradition of High Tea! Great work Biffa! Fun fact - the word Blighty came from the Hindi word Vilayati which means foreign land when soldiers from India went over to England through the East India Company. :)

I looked in the workshop and found that there are one or two yew trees, as parks and not as trees, and thought that adding a yew tree to the graveyard would be an interesting to have a yew tree as part of the graveyard. For some reason many graveyards in England have a yew tree or more than one.

You could call the town High Teamoor and get a ruined castle on the other side of lake Teamoor as a tourist destination! Looking rather nice already! I would totally go for the more out of town houses you mentioned at the end. It will make a more realistic flow into the countryside. Lastly I vote for a village next to HMS penitentiary of High Teason, where people are locked up that served the queen not the perfect English blend tea!

Hey Biffa, used missed creating a duck island. I'd make your pond shallower and also have a hard boundary, like a quayside. True story - I've dug a pond as a conservation volunteer in a major UK city. Also, a ton of parking for village station - park and ride! Also, some smaller powerlines. Also, cricket pitch Love your stuff!

When you are placing houses on roads that start straight then curve; do not have the one on the curve pointing at the road. It is more common to have them pointing in the some direction as the other houses but staggered back from the road. One road in my town has all the houses angled to the south for the sunny side, even though the road running East to West slightly curves North.

Heyo Biffa, got an idea for around the pond. You've left one part that is sort of more inside towards the pond, and I think it will be great to add a ruin castle there, to put a path inside and a yellow street light. Lovely build

Oh, and for the village name - Market Teaby? Little Teawich? Upper Teasmede? The last one's second half is almost play on the product for making tea automatically in the morning: the good ol' teasmade

I’d put the public toilets on the paving next to the car park. Also stick a post box outside the shops like one is a post office. Love this series!

“Much Brewing on the Wold” for a name. 40 years ago when I resided in the old dart I played village cricket in places very much like this. How about a cricket pitch? Love the series by the way.

A church normally doesn't have a huge tree blocking the front of it. I would suggest replacing that with a sign as more churches have their mass hours listed on a 3 to 4 foot high ornate sign. You could add some bushes around it and flowers. I know that is how my last 4 churches I visited present it.

How about Kettlemere? The pond "might" almost look like an old teapot without its spout and/or handle (if you squint and cross your eyes a bit at the same time), and google told me that Mere was a UK term for pond. Trying to come up with something that goes with "Bligh-TEA on the World" and works with the area is kinda rough lol

Liking the new village build, knowing the road you put in front of the primary school you might want to check the speed, I think it will currently be at 60 mph which is going to give me nightmares having it outside the school. another suggestion for the police station if you have the British police land rover set to spawn, I think that would fit well into the village. what about putting a small farm industry area next to the two houses on the muddy roads?

Perfect place for farming industry maybe - and public footpaths! Also re the trucks, as someone who lived in a village like that for 15~ years, trust me when I say we GET those trucks all the time (and love to complain about it too). Don't be afraid of just leaving open fields to be honest, they're useful to dog walkers anyway. That lake would probably be a significantly large park/nature reserve. I also feel like somewhere between the village and the main city there could be a big supermarket

Paul, you should use Google maps/earth as inspiration for when you build. Just having buildings and roads that look like the UK doesn’t mean an area will look like the UK when they’re placed down. Little villages will often have some history to them and thus were built in a location near a river, for example. Here in the Cotswolds, fine quality wool was produced and sheep markets characterised the identity of the area. Nowadays, you see old farm barns being gentrified into holiday homes. Would also be interesting to see how you could incorporate manor houses and national trust areas into your builds. But remember that more often that not, villages don’t spawn from the edge of a motorway. Villages connect to other villages and then towns and then a city. There’s often greenbelt land surrounding villages to halt the urban sprawl of towns or cities as to protect the identity of smaller unique villages.

Esher is pronounced "Ee-shuh" btw and it's a fairly small rural town, so it was quite actually fitting! I think you're going for more of a Cotswolds style build here though by the looks and Esher (in Surrey) is a bit too close to London to have the sprawled out look you are going for :)

Hi Biffa, I have some general village tips which might or might not apply in the UK (Haven't seen that many UK villages but I did grow up in an eastern european village so I would be surprised if it would be too different. The center fits quite a bit though I feel like you might be going a bit overboard with the parking - Villages are just small enough that you don't need to drive everywhere to get there and you don't get that many people coming in and needing to stuff their car somewhere so most people would park around their property or just stop by the road. Farmhouses off from the main body are a smart idea though those country roads are more like roads to get a tractor to a field rather than something that would lead to your house. Otherwise the feel was good, maybe I would rethink the no garden houses - after all the whole point of living in the countryside (and I feel like this applies doubly here in UK) is that there is space for such thing (THIS IS A BIG ASSUMPTION but I dont see why it would be different in the UK). Few suggestions that you might be able to implement: Mechanic - villages usually have places where you can get the machinery fixed, tractors and older cars break all the bloody time Post Office - Cant think of a village without one of these I feel like a ruin of a castle somewhere nearby might give it a good vibe Otherwise I feel like you really have everything that might not come to mind easily - rest is just housing and agricultural industry

Had a thought and I'm pretty sure that Biffa is prominent enough in the Skylines community to say whether it sucks or not and maybe to push for it to be implemented. Since the airport DLC shows that Skylines isn't done yet, maybe a Healthcare DLC is in order that includes modular hospital and clinic designs, along with a custom cemetery system that uses the park/industry zoning system thing?
