Sally Mann is opening us to a world that modernity is closing its eyes too. it is why so many will not be able to get her work. You need to allow yourself to breathe, to be open, no judgement, just be your human self.

Wonderful photographs. Mystery and chance - not knowing what the film would add to the image. The Avenue of Oaks, so atmospheric.

This imagery is quite unique and interesting, did the out of date film play a part. Personally, I like it though not all the compositions… ✌️🌻

I first saw Sally Mann's actual work in Portland Oregon decades ago and I never forgot. Names at her level, to me- "Edward Hopper"... I would say Egon Schiele, but he wasn't as careful! Sally Mann work is complex. I think she is quite a woman. Where is she? Yeah, I'd like to take pictures of her taking a nap at MY place, but hahaha

I know I’m in minority here, but I find these images horrible not only from a technical side but even artistically. Love her other work but not this

For me they shouldn't work at all, but for some reason they do. I think it's okay to dislike these. I can feel that there's something she can see in them - the light or the textures and shapes created by the subjects - that I can't quite put my finger on, so it makes it quite a bit more interesting to look at than an obvious snapshot.

add me to the minority its like the emperor has no clothes but the crowd seems to be saying...this is so wonderful and different.... is this person blind this kind of thing is like a backward leap for mankind...the bland leading the blind...it seems like a bad joke on us.

Minority. Your in the boring majority if you dislike this series. You ask the average person if they like this and they will most likely say that they look like mistakes or duds. However I see them as works beyond the scope of seeing. They are emotive of memory and a stretch of the visual norm. They are works that remind us that nature prevails over humans. They are dark like an endless night, however they are also playful like a chance happening. They are free of time and look like any genre. They are unpredictable and unpretentious. They don't care if they look beautiful and because so they are. They are a quick scar in time a blink. Liking this work though is not on the side of the majority. Far from it.

@emilecrowther7706 Sally doesn't do postcard snapshots. If I were dead, I would see those oaks as she depicts them.

@@chesslover8829 glad you liked them but I think you missed my point. I love her artistic vision but her wet plate technique is horrible. It looks like someone who is struggling to learn the process. She often says that she loves the imperfections of the process but for me they're distractions. If her earlier work in silver gelatin had the same kind of errors of dust, scratches and poor tonality her work would have been passed over. For some reason people are able to look past these flaws but I can't. In this case the emperor has no clothes.
