For that yaw twitch in the beginning, I would check rcCommand in blackbox to be sure I wasn't bumping the stick by accident. I've had that happen before no matter how sure I was that I wasn't. Good tutorial.
Do you mean when I was punching the throttle and it yawed a tiny bit? It could possibly be my shaky thumbs, (#thumbs4lyfe) but I will check :) Thanks so much for taking the time to take a look :D
great tuning tips! I smoked one of my esc when i first started tuning as a beginner. Leaving default values for D and just increasing P values for roll and pitch caused the motors to overheat. You're the first tuner that gave a great tip in lowering the D values and increasing it last when you start inducing oscillations with P values. Learned a lot from this video! Thank you.
one of the best pid tuning short vids I've seen. hope this knowledge I'm learning will eventually pay off and I can learn to tune my quad. I thought I was just giving yaw input on hard punch outs when I would get some yaw but as you explained it it's just the pids causing it to happen. very good to know.
your videos is so helpful for me.i had a hard time understanding on how to tune but watching your video I finally understand it thxs for your great video now im gonna start to tune my gx210 for a better feel and flying
Thank you so much for this video. I am using your pids in a 218mm frame with f3 aio fc ; 25A ESCs and 4s and triprops and it flies like a dream. I am also using them in a 220m frame with cc3d fc (flashed with betaflight) 12A ESCs with blheli, 3s and triprops.... THANK YOU!
hey man this video was super helpful ive been flying for almost a year and im just now getting into fine tuning my freestyle quads. i subbed! keep up the good work!
Nice, a good tune with really help the performance of your quad for sure :) Maybe check out my newer tuning videos ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-arGXxaOtg9w.html
Great tuning video man and that's some pretty nice flying too. I'm working on my tune since I just added a GoPro Session 5 and a 3D printed mount to Alien 5". Tuning is daunting and difficult to me. This helped me. thanks again.
Great video as always. Liked the stick inputs you added to video it gave me an idea of what it takes to pilot one of these fast sport flyers. The rest of the stuff on the vid for the PID and ESC adjustments were over my head but interesting. As I just fly quads that equal my hubsan h501s Keep up the informative videos thanks
It was hard to get them filmed. I ended up putting the camera on a stool and putting my arms through the stool middle to get it in shot, was awkward to hold though haha. Thanks for watching :)
Really well done! This was a great guide and even Josh would be proud (I'm guessing he was as Patreon even notified me that a "Joshua" had pledged to you) :) Extremely great and comprehensive video. Cheers! Eric
Thanks so much Eric! I am ecstatic right now :) Not sure if I will do more specific copter tuning videos, like maybe one per new (or special) copter, or perhaps general areas of tuning.
Thx a lot man this was really help ful just got in to really flying after i got my new DQuad obsession and was looking around for some Good Tuning and thx a lot
hey thanks for the help! i´m flying the same setup as you but with lb30a and it worked out quite well!! thanks to you i can do a proper fllight! onde again thanks a lot ;)
dude I love your videos! but lmao "ooooo theres a bird! bahahaha" but seriously excellent video, you helped me back months ago with mine and I cannot say thank you enough! keep up the awesome vids
Hi! Im on RD-210 banggood frame, F3 6dof, flying on 4Mhz, with 30A racestar and 2205-2300, 5040x3, and I hade stock pids, it wasn't bad, but when I try your pid's I realize that stock for this type of frame was shiiiiiit!!! Your pids are amazing!!! Different quad now!!! super happy!
Did you have like anytime that 'hang on' felling, when you throttle it up and cut/roll dive the qwad and in that period of time it fells like the quad swing/hang in the air in to the dive..?
RCAddict: "You can't just copy my PIDs" RC Flyer85: " Watch me" lol... I think our setups are similar enough. I'm surprised those LittleBees are holding up so well with MultiShot. I'm still on OneShot so I've got a lot of upgrading to do
I noticed your (I) gain is higher than your (P) gain on Pitch, I was trying to tune with my (I) gain lower than my (P) at all times, things are much more clearly now thanks. ..............d
There certainly are a ton of ways to tune, and there isn't necessarily a "right" way to do it, and that is true for the values as well. You can achieve similar results with varying combinations of numbers, just have to keep on testing.
First video I've watched and I'm subscribing. Great production value, I hope you do well on here. Have you messed with the notch filters in Beta 3 yet? That may help take your 98% tune to 100.
Thanks Weston! I have not configured my notch yet. Hopefully will be able to start messing with that soon. I think I might up my P and D a little more on this copter but plenty happy with how it flies right now :D
Great video. Tuning sucked on oneshot cleanflight naze32. Now I fly betaflight 3.0.1 mrm mantis (f3) blheli_s multishot, flys so much better with less tuning/fiddling
Man, I have just started in this hobby and you make it seems to easy to configure and get the fell for all this rates to be... Was wondering how long will I take to reach this kind of level of yours.
That depends on the person. Just make sure to push your self, but if you know you are about to crash, not shame in pulling away and saving $100 and 4 hours of work haha.
This video helped me heaps, can't thank you enough. I have got real problems with video signal and am looking for a bunch of new VTX's. Can you please share your thoughts on the VTX - Dragonfly 200mW 40ch ? Also, have you tried a IRC Tramp at all..?
Really good video. I was afraid of cranking up my pids because of oscillations, at the same time my quad doesn't feel rock solid, I might have discovered the point and it is that: Tuning a quad using 3s batteries is not the same than using 4S like you did, so probably I can raise my pids a lot more to get your same results, is that right?
Yes, different voltage causes different forces, causing different reactions, causing a different tune needed :) For 3S the values are usually higher so go ahead and raise them :)
tutorial was really informative! question, have you tuned a 250 size quad with the beta flight 3.0.1? my current setup uses a xracer FC 3.1 with 20a little bee esc(not pro version but with latest firmware since 12/31/16) and 2205 2600kv rebel motors with dalprops cyclones 5045x3 props and the frame is a 250 speed additional from catalyst machine works. I'm not sure how high the PIDs should be turned up compared to your video since it is a bigger quad but I'm afraid to turn up the D gain to minimize bounce back on rolls and pitch after quick stick inputs and back to center. thanks!
I don't fly 250 sized quads anymore, but it shouldn't make too much of a difference. Just turn the D up, fly for 30 seconds, and check your motors to see if they are getting extra heat.
Did you ever brake your main plate in this frame? I have a very similar setup as you (frame, FC, ESC-s, props, batteries), but i use 2 main plates, and i run DYS SE2205 motors. Anyways thanks for the tuning video, and i am looking forward to see your "in dept tuning" video.
Thanks for the insight! Do you use inflight-adjustments aswell to tune your quad without the need to land? I'd be really interested in such a tutorial if you're using it.
:) No, I have not set that up as it requires quite a bit of "setting up" haha. Joshua Bardwell has been experimenting with it though. I just try to get 3 flights of testing out of one battery by just doing pure testing no fun flying when tuning.
Dude need major help. I just got this falcon 180 and trying to tune the pids and it has no baro, this thing won't take off and I'm trying to g tune but I'm getting no positive results on cleanflight
First of all, don't use gtune. It will never work. Second of all, don't use the barometer. Third just flash to the newest Betaflight and I bet almost all of your problems will be solved ;)
i'm using a lux V2 with bumpbee_S esc's with the filter cap removed to run dshot, and i'm getting mid throttle oscillations,, any suggestions on getting rid of em? i have rubber o rings on the bottom of the fc but not the top.. maybe i need to softmount it better?.. it only happens mid throtle
I am not sure as I have never had oscillations like that, but the newest hype from Johnny is too soft mount your motors with electrical tape, so I guess you could try that.
hey man i just tested a strix 1550mah 4s 90c-190burst and was awesome lipo ive used the turnigy graphene 65c 1300mah and didnt have the punch that these gave me, wasnt sure if you have used them yet. i may need to tune my pids but if you get chance would check video out ill post soon
Just so you know, the C rating is a total lie, not only is there any C rating above ~40, but burst are totally fake. The numbers are total fabrication of the company to get people to buy them. For their 20c vs their 70c batteries, they just sort the better performing cells together. Just keep in mind that the numbers are hardly even anything to look at. As for the extra punch, 1550mah has more capacity, thus can deliver more current.
You can adjust your rates at any time you like. If your rates aren't high enough you won't be able to get as good as a tune though, as it won't be aggressive enough to bring out the bad scenarios. I have been using these rates for a little bit and really like them :) Fit my style of smooth in the middle and crazy outside :)
just have a question. you were tuning it in acro, right? when you change the the pids, stick response also change on all flight modes (in angle and horizon as well). I mean after tuning it in acro you get no oscillations. what about when you switch to angle, do you get oscillations since you bumped up the proportional?
Ronn2664 Yes, I fly only in acro. The PIDs affect all flight, no matter the mode, however you may find some undesirable results in angle mode you didn't have in acro.
what's ur thoughts of raceflight revolt v2 is it worth changing out bad omnibus f4 pro v3 that had osd? wish rf had osd but can't have everything I guess. how does rf fly vs betaflight
To me I think they are all identical if you tune them. RF just comes with closer stock settings to correct. I am staying with BF though as I know how to tune it.
You should really try an Xiaomi Yi (the original, not latest version with screen) and load Waffle Script. Was created by WaffleFPV here in Aus,, check his channel out. I can tell you it kills the video on that SJ. Thanks for another awesome and helpful video.
You need to turn your rates up. Try 1.05 rc rate on all three, and a rate of 75 on pitch and roll and 70 on yaw. This will make them pretty fast, but nothing crazy :)
Hoping for some quick advice. I'm tuninga ZMR250, Naze32 R6, Cleanflight, 2300KV motors, 5x4x3 props. Have the tune damn close now, but at low throttle (after a punch or climb) it doesn't fall straight. It likes to pitch back and roll a bit to the right. Same direction every time, and flips on pitch axis don't stay straight. Hoping it's not a motor with a bent shaft rubbing or something.
Any chance you could share some video? Might be too low or P and I gain though, but depending on the severity of it, you might not be able to get it all out .
Ultimatevapor918 Wow, super low D. D does cause all heat though, it just amplifies it. Excess P along with just general bearing and air friction generate heat. Also 2650kv is quite a bit to ask of a 5inch prop haha. Unless they are burning hot don't worry about it.
Hi ! I have the same ESCs in 30A on a ZMR250, do you use the DampedLight option of your ESCs here? I know it has a brake effect but are there any drawback? and what timings do you use ?
Thanks :) I think I am using multi 14.5 here as 14.6 sounded rough for me. I think my min was like 1010 but that is with manual calibration in BL Heli suite so don't just copy that.
Yes, but TPA shouldn't be used as the only thing to solve the problem. Depending on the severity of the oscillations you probably need to lower your P and D gains a little, and then add in some TPA. I usually use like .25
The yaw jump prevention value will help this. Since yaw doesn't have much authority it can't really be rid of and you can help it by a little smoother release on the sticks.
If possible fly in acro. Auto level modes will mess with it and you won't be able to perform nearly any of the maneuvers that you use to see what you need to tune.
A question. Is it higher/different pid values on a smaller quad then a larger ?. I am trying to pid a 105. I dont know if i have them high inuf. Its feels little sloppy even with high gain pids around P 100. Its a Piko blx FC
When it comes to small quads like that, they just lack the power, and even if you spend a very long time tuning it, it is very hard to improve it much. Also a Yaw P of 100 is not that high actually, as long as it isn't heating your motors and oscillating, I know lots of people who prefer around 110. Mine on 5inch quads is normally about 9.
Thanks for answer. This one is a brushles and runs 3s .It should have plenty of power and handle good, i hope... Il try to go upp. No ocsilation or other bad things yet.
Think i have sorted it I spent a while on the pid tuning and the wobbling was quite severe ,front to back. Thanks for getting back to me Much appreciated
Turn up the RC rate and Rate value in the PID tuning tab. Look at the graph to see how the different combos of values affect the curve, as RC rate is linear and rate is exponential.
The RCAddict ok i just build another frame and quad flies great. but when i slam right and left quad jitters but other than that all is good should i go up or down on D??
Have you ever had any camera blackout? Been working on my quad on the bench and I always leave an antenna on the vtx but I pulled out the headsets to look at it went black on me a few minutes after..
Nope, I run my XM20 escs that are F390 at 8K multishot, and these F330 littlebees at 2K multishot. If you are running a F330 be careful and don't exceed 2K.
I'm using betaflight 3.1.0 with F303 v3.1 4/2 and MS35a and Dys 2700kv in 4s and Dshot 600 but i've setup 20% expo on my TX, i think i need more training .. u fly with 4s too i think, Thanks for the fast reply.
