Between the jumps and spins probably the greatest choreographed and executed program in history.

Jonathan Wallach - Really?????

I agree. The choreography and the entrance into the jumps are very complex and intricate but they were still able to create some seduction and crowd pleasing rhythmic movements. When Kristi made that subtle pivot in tune with the beat of the castanets, you just can’t help your self from also busting a move

This is so cool to see the development of the program and a how it works between the coach and the choreographer and the skater.

I love how there is "weather" inside the rink. Notice how the fog comes and goes depemding on the day.

That happens in the summer a lot if it's hot and humid outside - compressors have to work overtime.

@ondynne Stanley Black Orchestra - either The Music of Lecuona (or) The Music of Spain, the latter which is available on CD.

Heard on the skating lesson how Sandra was rude to the costume designer Lauren at Tara's post Olympic victory party. No need for any of that. Not a fan of Sandra being a commentator. She was always so critical to those she didn't choreograph for. Great work but still not a fan.

It’s funny because if you compare this program to Ito’s Rachmaninoff, it seemed Ito’s team didn’t finalize the music and choreo until well into the season. Up through the Japan Nationals, her music was still not the same iteration she used during the Olympics and there were slight changes in her choreo

Must've been a hassle to select and edit music back then. Playing numerous CDs and record disks, selecting the right one, and having to physically take it to the professional editor. Nowadays most of this stuff can be done within a few clicks.

Yeah, but record players sound the best ! Still do. Notice her coach used a record player to mix and tape the music.

Wow, I did not realize what a tough mama Yamaguchi's coach is. But I guess she needs to be in order to push Yamaguchi to compete at the highest level. Wonderful piece on the goings-on behind the scenes. You realize a 4-minute skating program takes months to formulate. In most instances just one fall or mistake destroys months of training.

shihlin1 kudos also to Sandra Bezic who was responsible for the choreography. Bezic was also responsible for transforming Michelle Kwan into an artistic skater in 1996, though I prefer Kristi’s style of skating over Kwan’s and I believe that Bezic’s chores for Malaguena is her best work...ever. Also I wonder if Kristi Ness retired after Kristi got gold or if she moved on with coaching other competitive level skaters.

Judging from the video, Kristi's choice of music was a toss up between "Malaguena" and "Scheherazade."

Where is Toronto is it in Canada?

Yes. Kristi trained with her coach Christy Ness in Edmonton, which is a city in the Alberta province of Canada. She went to Toronto, a city in the Ontario province of Canada, to work with Sandra Bezic, who's the choreographer.

She listens to all these musical pieces, but goes back to what she skated to when she was 14..... And no, when Kiki skated to Malaguena it was NOT unique in any sense of the word. Did IMG produce this for ABC????? So many lies and untruths!! Poor Kristi, I do think she has better integrity than this.

I just discovered her short/original program from the 1987/1988 season. I had no idea she had used Malagueña prior to 1992 lol
