This video is amazing, as is your process. Your calm, even voice makes everything smooth, even the fabric. I didn't think this was possible and when you finished pressing, I was blown away. Thanks for such a well thought out presentation. The video was spot on, in focus and showed every step. Thanks so much!

What a beautiful job you have done! I've always been anxious about making circles, so I avoided them. You made it look so easy that I want to run to my sewing table and make one! Thank you so much for your tutorial!

Trying to learn inset circles has been an experience -- difficult I might add. I found two techniques on RU-vid: freezer paper and this pin-matching technique. The freezer paper method is easier to stitch but fussy and messy to prep; I like this one better. My practice units are not flat and have ripples around the circle -- ironing, starching, clipping curves and squaring the block all helped but none are quilt worthy. Nonetheless, I'm going to put them together and practice the free motion quilting design that got me interested in the first place.

I was so anxious about making this block for my modern quilt guild Block of the Month. I had decided to do 3 practices and if I still couldn't get it that I would just cut out a circle and fuse it down. I watched this video and just started relaxing! It was like having Mr. Rogers calmly walking me through the process and telling me that everything would be all right! I did my practice circle using double the pins but I made it calmly and without any unsewing! One try and I'm ready to go to my regular fabric. I am going to have the video up just to make sure that I'm matching up the 2 pieces correctly. Thank-you soooo much!

I followed your instructions for the 7” circle as described and was really delighted with the result. It laid nice and flat too. I then tried to do same with a 6” circle using a 5” hole in the surround. This one didn’t go as smoothly (may have been fabric choice) but I couldn’t get a decent result. Is there a formula for cutting sizes on different size circles? And in your experience when does the circle become too small for this technique?
