A heart breaking video of our time in port at Roatan Honduras. Ship was leaving at 3:30 ship time. We waited 35 minutes and then we left. Like our captain says "we didn't leave them they left us".
What's heart breaking is the absolute audacity of these two women to think an entire ship should wait patiently for their late arrival. They will hopefully learn a value lesson and make sure to keep better tabs on their time management.
That's why I always only participate on on excursions organised by the 'ship'... they will wait for you or make other suitable arrangements at their cost. OK they cost more but its peace of mind...
We have done 4 cruises so far and we have one planned for next year and the year after. Carnival makes it very clear about being on time back to the ship at ports. If you are shallow enough to make a whole ship wait for you because you can't follow rules then you deserve to be left behind.
I do tours. Depending on where I am at, I have to tell guests at least three times the times to be back. (and if there are special circumstances, maybe show up 5 or ten minutes early) People never learn. But i will tell you that 99.9 percent of guests really are amazing.
We did a ship sponsored tour of "Florence on your own" where essentially the excursion was the bus ride and a walk to the meeting place. One guy was over an hour late. The rest of us were hot and tired after a long day and were trying to convince the guide to just leave him....his wife and kids were quite upset. The guide called her company several times...seems we were the last bus to leave Florence, so they told her to wait....so 23 of us stood in the hot sun for over an hour waiting for one jerk. No problem at the ship, but so frustrating.
I watch them at nearly every port. The ones that get left behind are normally way late and you don't see them on the pier. It's an odd case to see people who miss the ship but are close enough to see on the pier.
@@sarge6870 Yes, they are certainly out there. But we were on a 7-night western Caribbean cruise and a crewmember told me we left people behind in all 3 ports before we got to their private island. I was watching at all 3 ports and didn't see anyone left on the dock, which tells me they were too late to even do the pier run.
If every official excursion has come back on time, then the ship should have left at 3:30 sharp. No more waiting for these people. This is how you teach them a lesson about punctuality. Do you think your flight will wait for you if you are late getting to the airport or gate? Nope. If the flight is schedule to leave at 4pm and the doors are supposed to close at 3:50pm, they will close at 3:50pm whether you are there or not. Cruise lines should adopt this. Though it would put an end to these wonderful videos 🙂
I think cruise lines do follow that, but sometimes there are other factors as well. I don't think they are leaving late to wait for people, they are checking their cabin for passports, stuff like that. I take a similar approach when I drive Uber from time to time. I wait 5 minutes, and if they aren't there, I'm gone. Had many people chase me down the street. Not quite as cool as dock runners, but they're gonna learn somehow.
the ship will never leave early, but they will also never leave late. if you can't make it back in time, don't leave the ship in the first place. Or, make sure you have you passport and other essentials cause you are flying to the next port.
You don't necessarily have to take your travel documents with you, but it's a good idea to put them in an easy to find place in your cabin, so the crew can locate them. They will go into your room before the ship departs and attempt to locate any items you might need to fly home, like your wallet or passport. They'll hand them off to a port representative, who will then give them to you once you return to port after the ship is gone.
We cut out day a little short (did not snorkel the shipwreck) because we felt we were cutting it too close. Our ship DID leave people behind that day as well. Can't wait to go back to Roatan!!
one of the few exceptions to the rule is if someone fell ill or were hurt. But the local authorities always know when the cruise ships are in town and can actually CALL the ship and let them know, and depending on the severity, the captain MAY wait for a little while, medivac them if theyre not too far out or meet them in the next port
Same with if you scheduled your shore excursion through the cruise line, and the transportation gets a flat tire or something. They'll wait then too, or ferry you out to the ship.
I have and there should be no sympathy for anyone who, due to their own negligence, are late to board a ship. Barring extenuating circumstances, be responsible and get back on time or pay the price.
Some ships routinely wait 30 beyond departure time. On Princess, we left on time, without any grace period. These two women were 35 minutes LATE. Did they really expect the ship to wait on them? You can choose to be a responsible, respectful passenger, or you can choose to make your own way to the next port.
We have been on 30+ cruises and seen very few pier runners. We have always been back to the ship in good time and we mostly do our own thing ratther than ship excursions. The only time weve been late was on a ships excutsion when we got held up in traffic. Of course the shipmwaited for the 40 or so who were late! Incidently, if the ship cecides to go and leave anyone the crew will gominto their cabin and getntheir passports, which thry give to the agent on shore to give to the guests, so they can then travel to the ship. The agent will also assist in arranging transport, at the gursts expense, for them.
On my cruise last December, we were supposed to be back on ship by 4:15 to leave at 5. We were still able to leave about 5, but there were people walking on as late as 4:45. The rear gangway was taken off before the last of the yahoos could be bothered to shift their butts down to the docks. Some fucking arrogance, I tell ya
While it's a good idea, if you're doing an excursion where it would be inconvenient, put them in a conspicuous place in your cabin. Before the ship leaves, they should enter your cabin and look for documents or other stuff you might need, which will then get handed off to a port representative before the ship departs.
I’ve never understood these people, what are you doing that’s so much fun that you take the risk of being left behind? I’m always back on board well before departure time.
It would have had to be an independent group tour because a ship sanctioned group tour would be accommodated if it would have been late. That's why it's a tad more expensive but wiser to take the ship's tours.
Maybe they were waiting in line for the other cruise ship, but didn't realize they were all waiting in the wrong line. That's possible, the line looked really long
Do some of you people not realize that the ship excursion maybe making them late in the ship has to wait for them, stop being so damn judgmental because you don’t know the situation you’re not down there
The cruise ship tells you 100 times to not be late! They tell you 100 hundred times to not go on an excursion that is not sponsored by the ship. The ship has to stay on schedule. Do you cruise?
I admit to getting a sick little thrill watching these just like everyone else, but you can't assume people are just brainless or inconsiderate. Things happen sometimes. And don't you think they suffered enough? The only people they're hurting are themselves.
If you do an excursion thru the ship they will get you back and will wait on you if something goes wrong. If you are doing something on your own you could get left behind
what, you're not allowed to bring anything to eat to the ship? not even when it's wrapped / packaged? I see the hygienic reasons, but... still consider it an overkill. here in Scandinavia, no one will stop you if you bring your own food to the ferry
