Polanski is a genius. His filmmaking is audacious, precise, savagely humorous and bitingly sardonic. I revisited this film again and it has aged beautifully.
Agree 100%. This might be my favorite film of his. Chinatown is obviously his masterpiece, but I find myself rewatching this one more often. I just can't get it out of my head.
Magnificent film, a once-a-year film, one for the ages. 5:35 Roman Polanski gives a great direction there as to why Olivia Williams should walk behind Ewan in that shot. Later it is just as telling that she walks ahead of him as if leaving him behind, like Ruth being ruthless. Profound hints of character even outside of dialogue, just incidentally. So much attention to detail to notice & admire in *The Ghost Writer* that you can't take in everything there is to appreciate in one viewing - - & that's why it's a classic once-a-year film.
me too not sure how many times but I plan to buy it as well, not for polanski (he should be in prison for raping and drugging a child) but for Pierce and Ewan and the guy who is after the bad guys to expose them.
Roman Polanski is one of the great directors of all time. There is no better director alive today, including Coppola & Scorsese & Allen & even Jarmusch.
A question not asked. Was it hard to play in a movie that pretends the former East Berlin is actually London because authorities would never let Polanski set foot in Great Britain?
everyone is very careful about talking about Mr. P since it can affect their getting jobs in the future plus this is his film. the movie is great but it's due to the actors, especially Ewan and Pierce and the guy who wants to expose things. I didn't like the character of the wife, she is a horrible person but this movie is much more than a "tony blair", it's actually about the CIA's involvement and about CIA shadow handlers........puppeteers behind the stage, pulling the strings. THAT is what is truly good about this movie and eerily real...........you will see..still do not like Polanski at all and wish he was in prison where he belongs. the actors can't say anything it's not politically correct and if they want to work again, they won't.
