Talk about nightmares, talk about making the frame of a window of an empty dark room feel dreadful... a masterpiece, always in my top 10 thrillers ever.
Yes Roman is such a beautiful soul. God bless him, anytime he speaks it feels like a child is speaking with zest for life that has not lost its innocence yet, there is purity and love felt in his words.
It’s such a fun movie. I first saw it late at night at a time I was especially receptive to its eerie ambiance and all the touches of black humor. I love the Egyptian bathroom sequence, the slap of the ugly brat in the park and Jo Van Fleet tearing up the scenery in her short, masterful moments as Madam Dioz. Underrated classic.
Thanks for uploading! Nice to hear from Mr. Polanski himself about it. 👍🏼🙏🏼 One of my favourite Movies. It’s very true and intense. A dreamlike clarity…
o calm and kind, explains things precisely and has good words for others. I love this sweet-voiced Polanski. I liked him even at the time of that masterpiece Chinatown and that hilarious film Vampire Killers I read his biography and I understand how he can be so calm, ciao Roman
Madness showed from inside. It includes comedy and horror. Roman is a one of a kind MASTER. Knowing what cinema can express when crafted through artistic force.
I agree, and I love the interviews I've seen w him, esp his dinner with Clive someone (?). His films haunt me, but I hated this one. It was just too creepy and depressing. Most of his films have to do with madness of one type or another... they must reflect or represent his own trauma and despair growing up. Feeling chased or pursued, very bleak underlying. I think the film Rosemary's Baby had an upbeat ending compared with most of the others! His life had so much fear, sadness, loss, ultimately he was pursued for years, like Les Mis. But he has an innate sense of humor and passion for films and commit to them. I see a man with flaws -- and gifts -- and an abilility to heal and want to enjoy life. Not everyone can do that, my grandparent were holocaust survivors and life can get pretty dark and despairing. I envy and admire him for his talent in film, and for many things, he's an inspiration to me.
