You are welcome. It is really common to think that swelling is an infection or allergic reaction. The main question is are there other signs of infection or allergic reactions. Thank you for watching.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing I got my cartilage piercing just a week and a half ago and it's swollen for about three days already. There's also a liquid thing that keeps on coming out . Should I already worry about this?
i’m here two years after this was posted and lemme tell you, this made me feel way better. i couldn’t remember if my lips swelled the first time, so i was SO worried when my lip started to swell more the next day.
You offer the best information for piercings. I have 15, did most of them in highschool myself and didn’t pay attention much to healing. Now that I’m 25 I get so paranoid about healing my new piercings and you’ve helped with every single one
I got my helix three days ago and my ear was so swollen and throbbing and I couldn’t bear the pain and it took forever to take out I actually started crying but thank you for your video it did help a lot!
I'm sorry you had a bad experience and I'm glad to hear that you got the jewelry out. I'm guessing the post wasn't long enough for the piercing and swelling.
I just got a helix and a daith 5 days ago for my birthday and I had a little soreness but no real pain. Then, yesterday my helix started to swell a little and I had throbbing and it was a little sensitive to touch, and I felt this all throughout the rim of my ear and when I rubbed the top of my ear the pain would stop or lessen. It still throbs here and there but its not as bad as it was yesterday. But I was so scared that I may be getting an infection or something. I haven’t touched it all day today except for when I clean my piercings in the morning. My daith hadn’t given me any problems and I’m happy about that because it is like in the inside of my ear😂.
Thank you for this information I think you're the only person I ran into that explain this really thoroughly everyone else just dances around the subject. I've been looking for a straight answer and finally got one. Thank you!
Thanks so much! I got my rook pierced a few days ago and noticed some swelling today; I actually convinced myself I had cellulitis, even though the swelling is minimal. I put some ice on the swollen area and it already feels much better. Thanks again!
oh my god same… i got my rook last week and i woke up 2 days ago and it was swollen asfffff i was so worried cuz it was healing so well gonna try ice 😭😭
Hi! I literally browsed through your comments section and I’ve seen you reply to majority of the questions left there. Thank you so much for your patience answering them and thank you for making this video. Very informative.
I get to the comments when I have time. There was a time when I could get to all of them but now I get in here when I can. It's been a real please to be honest and I'm glad that you have found it helpful. Thank you for watching.
Oh yes, it's one of current favorites. It's from the RU-vidr Sam the Cooking Guy. Not only are his shirts great but he's recipes are spot on. Also the videos are entertaining. If you are going to try one do The Best Chicken Enchiladas. I've made them three times and they are like incredible.
thank you so much! I got my center eyebrows pierced. I've discovered that I have a habit of furrowing my eyebrows almost all of the time, and moving them whenever I react to anything! This may be a long healing process...
Yeah it is one of the reasons that the area was avoided for years. It will prolong the healing but could also cause some migration. Keep an eye on them,
I got my conch and faux rook done on the same day/same ear and aside from the pain of the actual procedure they've been doing amazing for 9 days. Very little soreness and only during cleaning. Zero swelling or pain. Then on the 9th day my ear swelled up out of the blue. No trauma, it didn't catch on anything nor did I sleep on it. Just randomly got swollen from the conch piercing outwards accompanied by pulsating pain. It's been getting worse for 2 days despite of me taking ibuprofen and doing salt water soaks. The swelling increased to the max post length of my threadless labret and the pain has become unbearable. My entire ear is so swollen front and back that my other old healed piercings (helix and lobe) are also at the max of their posts. I'm going in to see my piercer in hopes that she can upsize me to a longer post. This is completely new experience for me. Just wanted to share because most people I've watched seemed to have a very carefree conch healing process and I'm having hard time finding any info about issues with it.
@@nikox703 that sucks! Warm sea salt water soaks helped me although my piercer yelled at me when I told her that I did afterwards. The swelling ended up going down after 2 days and I didn't need antibiotics ( saw my doctor and he said I'll be fine without). She did upsize my posts 2 sizes which hurt like hell. She actually went one size up first and it had swollen up to the max again right in front of her eyes so she had to size me up again. I was crying in silence. Wish she had given me a stick to bite on lol but after that 2 days of soaks as hot as you can handle it and all good. I just boil the water, add salt and let it cool. Twice a day for a couple of minutes. Dunk your ear into the cup. Only about 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt water WITHOUT IODINE. I don't really understand why she freaked out about it. I've seen other piercers recommend it. Anyways, you have to do what works for your body. Maybe you can try it. At the very least you feel relief from it while you're doing it. Oh and I did have an infection. Blood and green discharge that's why she told me to go see a doctor but I got better with larger posts and salt soaks alone before my appointment
I think you will find the sterile saline on a can a better option. Especially the misty style because it is cold. Let it set on there for 5 minutes. Also rinsing the area that the end of your shower.
Thank u Clear & to the point. I appreciate the effort u have put forth, using ur professional & personal experience to help others. The best to u & urs ✌🏻
I’m so glad I watched your video, I got worried because my snake bites got very swollen and I started to panic and not knowing what to do. Thankfully I saw this video and went to change my piercing to a longer bar today, and it already feels so much better🫶🏼
I was at my friend's birthday party and my industrial got stuck in her hair, we got it out but now its red and swollen and this very painful, should I be worried?
It actually a platinum plaque that I was given by the band and Paul. I have bit of a history with the band during their early years. For more information on all that check out my personal site davoaxiom.com
This video just saved me from losing my ear i thought a new bar I got pierced was just hurting but turns out the swelling was so close to a stud it got it to get my stud raw. And I squeezed it and pus came out he said if the swelling is too much for the bar which is was for the stud it was gonna eat the piercing it started. This saved me a trip to the emergency room to cut out my stud.
Hello! I got my nose pierced a few months back and the issue is it randomly gets bumps. It will go for a while without a bump, then a bump will randomly appear and it looks swollen. This has been happening on and off since I got the piercing. Please what can I do?
The most common cause of bumps is trauma to the piercing. For example sleeping on the piercing, wearing incorrect jewelery or playing with the piercing. See your piercer and have them take a look.
this video was super helpful, thank you!! i’m planning on getting my philtrum pierced soon and i’m a bit concerned about the swelling because i’ve never had an oral piercing before. do you think the swelling is too much of an issue for me to go to work the next day? i have to talk constantly at work, which is why i’m concerned. should i try and plan to get pierced when i’ll have a couple of days off?
With any piercing but especially with those that can impact or be impacted by talking, it's best to do them when you have a few days off. I would suggest doing it at the end of your work week.
Hi When my flat got inflamed because my cat bumped against it, I used emu oil and that helped with the inflammation and with the pain. I highly recommend it :)
I have seen very mixed results with emu oil. I think in part because like tea tree oil it is unregulated. Meaning there is vast differences in quality and what is in fact in it. The thing with bumps is that often it is a reaction to trauma and removing the trauma will make it go away regardless.
Heyyy!! I got my helix piercing like a week ago... it was almost good for 5 days and i did not even feel that i got any piercing... but on 6the day it got so red and was hurting almost all the time and got swelled with lot of heat coming out of that area... after 2 days redness is almost fading but it is still swollen... should i be concerned? Or is it normal healing process?
I'm guessing that the piercing has experienced some form of trauma. Isolate the piercing and give it a few days, if it worsens or doesn't improve, see your piercer.
Body Piercing & Tattooing completely agree with that. Mine just started to get better on its own apparently i might have been sleeping on it by accident.
i got my right bottom lip pierced, it was through scar tissue. it’s uneven to the other side (the other side is straight through, they’re both pierced in the same marked spot, but the right one is pierced at a weird angle.) it doesn’t really hurt, but it’s extremely swollen and has been for about two days. i’ve been taking anti-inflammatory over the counter meds to help with the swelling, and it’s not helping much. i can’t really find any effective swell relief either, so i’m hoping what you mentioned will help. i had to go and get a longer bar, but it’s still embedding. not to the point my lip is engulfing the plate in the back, but enough to where there’s mild discomfort. i really appreciate this video
Watching you trying to keep it PC at around 10:32 was awesome. Haha! Thanks for all the info. I have a vertical industrial, that goes through the top of my conch out the bottom of my conch, I've heard it called a suicide industrial. I got exactly 7 days ago and it's super swollen, partly because I keep rolling over on it in my sleep. Thankfully, the swelling isn't exceeding the length of the barbell, my piercer is an hour away from me, I was gonna give it another week and if I don't see it go down I was gonna go have them switch it to two different barbells for awhile. I know it's hard to say without seeing it, but do you think I should go to my piercer sooner?
Yeah, it's hard to include everyone. Especially, since most of the artist I've worked are male. I've done that piercing a few times. It's not easy and it has to be dead on. Just a slight bit this way or that way on the angle and it won't heal right. Conch piercings are grumpy. Even single ones and you added a second and are forcing them to get along. Tough heal to say the least. I would give it a week unless the swelling gets worse or doesn't seem to be subsiding. A couple of things could be going on. The first is trauma as you said. It can be hard to train yourself to stay off it when your sleeping. The other could be that the angle isn't 100% perfect. If that is the case, going with two pieces of jewelry will solve the problem but you may end up with two Conch piercings instead of an industrial. The piercings may also, once set free off the restraints, migrate even further out of alignment. At thus point baby them like crazy, avoid contact, try some compresses and soaks. Hopefully, they will settle down. In some cases, it just takes a while. In some others it will take a jewelry change or vending the jewelry to match the two angles.
Hey DaVo, you've done another GREAT one, dude! I'm only an ADVOCATE for ear piercings. But if other people wanna get their other body parts pierced-----more power to 'em.
I’m 17 I have 18 piercings and my new ones (snake bites) are swelling a lot, I was very worried, because it’s starting to swallow the bar at the back and it’s only been two days
They are prone to swelling and often will not swell until the second or third day. If the swelling is beyond the length of the jewelry, you should have them changed asap.
I just a piercing and its swollen soo bad its embedded the earing.. ..i know what to do now...we have been able to take it out...Hoping it heals fully....Thank u for this video.
Hi, really good video, and your explaining is really good. I got my industrial piercing 1 week ago and it kinda hard on the top part (there’s no bump or keloid) sometime, but rarely itches sometime hot. I din’t slept on it neither hit it or snag it in fact I’m very careful with it and I clean it twice a day with saline sterile solution. When I had my nose pierced, it was hard too but it went away when it was fully healed and I never had an infection with it . I was asking myself if it’s normal which I’m sure it is bc it’s a new piercing and my body’s reacting to it (please don’t tell me it’s an infection 😭)
Hi! How long should swelling for a tragus piercing generally last? I got mine pierced 5 days ago & it is still swollen - no other issues though. I keep seeing everywhere that swelling shouldn’t last longer than 48 hours.
Swelling can last anywhere from 3-5 days or longer. If it continues it is usually a sign of trauma. For example, if you sleep on the piercing then that is going to prolong the swelling. Isolate the piercing and if it doesn't improve, see your piercer.
I slept on my cartilage piercing and it’s swollen. Dunked it in salt water, I’ll observe what happens. It’s been 5 days since I had it pierced. Thanks for your advice!
@@BodyPiercingTattooing it’s been two weeks! It’s all good. It swell for 3 days and went down. It was painful for a night though, had to drink pain reliever and antibiotics. Just waiting for it to fully heal! Thanks really!!
Hi! I got my cartilage piercing about a week ago, everything was okay and it didn't hurt, but yesterday I woke up in a lot of pain and my ear was really swollen and kinda hard. Today it doesn't hurt as much as yesterday, but it is still swollen. Is that normal? I try not to sleep on that side and I really take care of it. Thank you :)
The best thing ever that helped with swelling for me was the Chamomile tea. Place tea bag in hot water , take warm tea bag out of the water let in sit on ear for 5-10 minutes . I've tried ice, salt soaks to no relief, tea bag soak was the only thing that truly worked.
I got my third lobe piercing on October 29th, 4 days after i got my second lobe piercing. My left ear is completely fine but around the third piercing of my right ear is still swollen
I have a specific question so like you suggested i'll leave it here in the comments. I have canine bites done, the upper lip are the new ones i already had snake bites. Now i know the swelling is gonna be worse for oral piercings and what not but i swell up to a point the the balls and even the disc at the end of the labret got imbedded into the skin on day 2! Now, the piercing shops here all close in weekends, i still had one titanium toungue bar, meaning 2 balls on each end, that was the same size in how thick it is (excuse my way of explaining english isn't my mother toungue), but the normal length for a toungue piercing , in the lip! It barely has any extra space, so that's how bad it's swollen. I've been putting ice packs on it all the time. I know changing it yourself is not done but i had to, couldn't leave it like that, so now one side is perfectly fine, i don't have another long bar for the other and i have to wait another full day (and it keeps swelling) now my question is wheter or not i should put in another titanium toungue bar (i only use titanium!) Wich is thicker, meaning i'll have to strech a 2 day old piercing (is that even posibble?), or take it out, knowing it'll close up and there's no way for any infection or what might cause this extreme swelling (there's no redness or puss tho, my lip looks like it's about to blow up), if i take it out it'll trap whatever caused this inside. Or should i leave the labret in and wait it out? I'm thinking the last option but i'm scared it'll be completely imbedded and stuck by tomorow, i tried taping it down with steri strips to push them so they'd not dig in to much on the inside.
I can't believe all the studios are closed on the weekend. It's usually our most busy days. If they are opening tomorrow, I would hold off on changing the jewelry. The main issues are that the jewelry is a thicker gauge and I'm guessing that the jewelry is not sterile. However in a pinch, if the jewelry is impacting it might be the best option to avoid abandoning the piercing completely. Have you tried saline? It can help with reducing swelling.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing haven't tried saline and unsure of what it is? And yes, all studios within an houre drive say opening on monday on google, i don't know about the smaller less known plaves though. Where i'm from there aren't as much tattoo & piercing parlors since it's still kinda taboo here :( however: i did upgrade to a thicker gauge, went completely painless, i felt immidiate relief. I know that it'll usually cause trouble if you do that before the healing but, no more sinking into the skin and not too thight. Hoping it'll go down soon.. I ordered even longer labrets and i'll have to change up to those asap but i'm gonna hold that off for a few weeks still. whenever i take out my snakebites for work, i've had them for years and put them back in a few days later they sometimes act up so trying to avoid changing them, having.balls instead of flat discs inside the lip does suck, but i'll just have to put up with that
Saline spray like neilmed wound wash spray or piercing aftercare is a good option. I'm not sure where you located and how available it would be. Usually most drugs store sell some form of it. What you want is 0.9 saline. Otherwise you can make it yourself. Take a cup(8oz) of distilled water and an 1/8th of a teaspoon of sea salt, let the salt dissolve. Does the disc on the labret unscrew or is it fixed? Sometimes especially if that barbell is from same manufacturer, the ends are interchangeable. So, you might be able to put the disc on the barbells.
Hey! I got my second cartilage yesterday but it started swelling today. I got a smaller piercing and the swelling is starting to “eat” my earring. The ear around the piercing is red and is hard,. Im still paranoid that im gonna have to go to a doctor for it. Should I just leave it be? Also I appreciate that u take time out of your day to reply to almost everyones comments
I got my double conch piercing 4 months ago and it’s still super swollen in the back. I use saline spray, sleep with a donut pillow so I don’t lay on my ear, have 14k gold jewelry in for my sensitivity to metal and clean it everyday. It doesn’t hurt, but it’s still pretty swollen. It kinda looks like little ant hills in the back of my ear. I have a flat back post that is long enough to clean. There will be crusts built up occasionally but no pus. Should I be worried that the swelling hasn’t gone down in 4 months?
I recently got my Vertical Philtrum/Jestrum pierced and it has been extremely swollen! I heard they are known for swelling a lot but I’ve been so paranoid about it over-swelling or being infected it doesn’t have any symptoms of infection and doesn’t completely swallow the bar or balls but I definitely have had piercings over swell or engulf jewelry before and had to get a longer barbell so I’m definitely paranoid! But I’ve been taking ibuprofen, using Saline solution and trying to remain at least slightly hydrated more than normal! 😅 my piercer says I should be fine but this video definitely helped ease some nerves!
@@BodyPiercingTattooing yes conch to conch, looks amazing but most swelling to date. Taking cool showers and maximum dose Ibuprofen has helped. Keep up the great content!
my piercer said to change out my ear piercing after 1 week. i accidentally took the earring out. couldn’t get it back in so had to switch it to another one now it kind of pulses and swelling is happening what should i do?
I slept on my face last night and now my eyebrow piercing is swollen all the way to my eyelid. I have work in 4 hours and I am STRESSED. I had to take out my other eyebrow piercing because it was rejecting, I’ve had nothing but problems with both them. I love these piercings and I’m sad that my body just doesn’t like them
is there something you can suggest? I got my lobe pierced 3 or 4 days ago idk and my left ear is swelling but it's not painful and it's not that red, what should I do?
It sounds like it might be a normal reaction to the trauma caused by the piercing. However, it could be that you are sleeping on it and don't even know. Get a travel pillow and sleep with your in the center of the U.
I'm getting a tongue piercing. I have my moms consent but not my dads and I'm worried about him seeing the shiny silver ball and I dont want him to overreact bc he tends to do that. Is it safe to switch from a silver bar to a clear bioplast retainer after a week?
I think you are going to find that the clear balls are just as noticeable. Also there are risks to having plastics in your body. Other options would be a disc or different colors.
Nope you'll lose that hole real fast like he said with the membrane that starts to scar sometimes it isn't enough to have a solid canal to where you might bit be able to find the whole on the otherside. And you'll put your self in alot of pain I know I had to do that with my tounge bar.
My noise piercing is killing me even after changing the jewelry, and applying all method of healing but still it not changing, could it be that I need a long jewelry?
I'm here bc my conch piercing started swelling a week after I got it pierced and on November 23rd, it's gonna be 2 months now being swelled up, had a bump at the back with a little build up blood in the hole. Every now and then it minimizes but it just doesn't get healed bc maybe lack of spraying saline, being bumped, andnot oftentimes being cleaned (or also maybe having a pressured to be slept on with my neck pillow, though my ears are placed in between). Tried aspirin paste at the bump in the front before, and it seems like the bump at the back isn't working at all. ; A ;
See your piercer and have them take a look. Aspirin paste will often make it worse. Until you remove the cause of the bump, it won't go away. My guess is that it abuse, and isolating the piercing is your best option.
Thanks for making this video! I had my conch and helix pierced 8 days ago. Over weekend, I had lots of seafood, some spicy and salty food and I got bitten by an insect. I didn’t know what did the trick, but right after that my conch starts to ache and swell. The post is still long enough. This has never happened to any of my other piercing. I’m doing daily cleaning and sea salt bath.... hopefully it will come down. Still feel a bit scared
It is likely not an infection. If it is painful without contact, there maybe an issue with the size of the jewelry. If it doesn't improve see your piercer and have them take a look.
I've had my ear piercings for 3 years and I've never had any problems with them but a couple days ago my right earring started to get really irritated and swollen im a little concerned because this has never happened before and my left ear is just fine
My guess is there was some trauma to the area or maybe you have changed jewelry and your body is reacting to the weight or material. Isolate the piercing or go back to the older jewelry and it should improve. If it doesn't, see your piercer.
;last year I got my cartilage piercing on my right ear at a tattoo parlor and I did it with a needle, she but in a 16 gage ring and it was fine but then it got infected and I took it out. Three days ago I pierced it again at Clairs with a gun and its doing fine and healing well, BUT I pierced my left ear as well with a cartilage and its been three days and its red and swollen ( it doesn't hurt but I can like feel a pulse) should I be worried?
it’s been a while since u posted this but i’d figured i’d ask you for advice. i got my rook pierced 10 days ago and it was completely fine until the 8th day. it started swelling and it’s been swollen for 2 days now. it throbs and hurts pretty bad. it has formed some crust even after i cleaned the jewelry. is it something to be concerned about? is there a specific way i should clean it? tysm :).
@@tammi_michelle I just waited it out and did my nightly non iodized sea salt soak for 5 minutes and eventually it went away!! Just make sure you do it with a paper towel because I think using qtips was adding on to the irritation for me.
It coukd be that it is getting sone trauma, like sleeping on the piercing. The biggest thing t look out for is that the piercing does not swell beyond the length of the jewelry. If it doesn't improve es see your piercer asap to have them put in a longer bar.
Is it normal to tragus pierce get swollen? Mine now got swollen but not hurt so much but it scares me if it worse. I use sea salt at warm water to clean
Yes, all piercings swell. Some more than others. You should only be concerned if it does start to reduce or begins to swell beyond the size of the jewelry.
Hi there! I pierced my own earlobe about 10 months ago... The piercing is located high towards my cartilage but it's not going through the cartilage... It swells from time to time and sometimes there is blood or some type of liquid coming out of it, I have always cleaned my piercing with saline water but I am very confused about why it keeps swelling even after 10 months, another thing I noticed is that my silver earrings turn a dark color whenever I wear them in that specific piercing, I have no problems or allergic reactions to silver in my other piercings. should I be concerned? If so, what can I do about this? Thanks for the advice!
Silver is terrible for healing piercings and I'm guessing it is causing the issue. You should switch to implant grade surgical stainless steel, implant grade Titanium or 14kt or better solid Gold.
Hello! I have an urgent question… I got my cartilage and tragus pierced 3 days ago; my cartilage is still pretty red and my tragus doesn’t really bother me… put I feel like I’m swelling on my side of the face where I got it. Also, when I clean the tragus a little dot of blood still comes out, but nothing too crazy. As for my cartilage it bleed a lot when I got it but not anymore. Should I be worried?
I got my second ear piercings three weeks ago and I do remember one being a bit itchy about a week ago. Now it’s swelling, pussing and bleeding. I took the earring out (which I now know was a mistake) so I put it back in (which was very painful and now it stings. In the manual that the piecer gave me it said to switch the earings after the three weeks so I did and I’m not sure if that’s what caused this. Please help!
You could have been having a reaction to the jewelry material or the aftercare product you are using. You should have left the jewelry in or abandoned the piercing. When you put the jewelry back in you caused additional trauma. If it doesn't improve see your piercer or doctor.
Just a guess but first off stop sleeping on it. If you must sleep on that side, sleep with a u shaped travel pillow with your ear in the center. One side will always heal slightly slowly than the other. However, when we see swelling and redness on one side it points to abuse and over contact. You need to isolate both piercings and avoid contact. If it doesn't improve see your piercer.
Hi, I had my ears pierced about 4 months ago with a gun in a jewelry shop while I was visiting Turkey, after being basically forced to do it, since I was so scared to do it, at the age of 16. Everything went just fine, everything is nice and even. Here in my country there arent a lot of piercers, 99.9% people gets pierced with a gun at a jewelry store. I did some research before I pierced my ears, knew about how long I should wear my first earrings and how to take care of it ect. But! Since we bought some expensive jewelry while me and my family were on the trip, they suggested I put on the gold earrings in my ears, in case we lose our luggage ect. - after getting my ears pierced about 4 days befor that. I was so against it, but since my parents are really “old school” and were just like “Oh nothing will happen” I took out the medical earrings. Precisely my fatger did, it hurt but a very numb type of pain when you just see all the stars and feel sick. So I somehow survived that... Got on the plane, back home with gold earrings on. My ears were obviously very red and hurt a bit. So I was afraid to touch them on my own, since I’ve already did something I shouldn’t have. I went to a jewelry shop, where the lady working there took of my earrings and put in ones similar with which you get pierced with a gun with. Told me to clean them with Octanisept, a water solution antiseptic for skin. I had no major problems, just some dark yellow/light brown crust from time to time that didn’t look like a infection, cleaned it regularly and everything was fine. I changed my earrings at a jewelry shop, it was bleeding a bit, after a month or so into white gold earrings which I now wear every day. Two problems: I just woke up after sleeping on one of my ears which was scratching a bit during the day, because I probably accidentally touched it with my dirt hands. Now its a bit swollen, it was bleed quite a bit and had some slime like blood. Cleaned it, tried to loosen up the back a bit but I can’t for some reason. It can be twisted and everything, so my piercing hole is not closed, I’m just afraid my ear will like “grow over the piercing”, but it doesn’t seem like it did, my earring is just a tiny bit tight now, but was fine up until today, I didn’t touch or change it or anything and I take care of my ears. As I said, I can’t find a good (not sketchy) piercer here, so when should I go see a doctor or something? I am not that worried about this, since I am more worried about my second problem. On the other ear, which is fine, I have a “swelling”? Basically right where the ear is attached to the head, near the “root” on the back of the ear itself. I sleep a lot on this side. When I rouch it from both sides of the ear it is like a little “lump?” of something in the ear. As if you had a ball inside that was covered with skin it’s just a different shape. Not very hard, just hurts when touched, right where it ends (right befor the piercing, about 4-5mm before) it created a crease which looks somewhat like a a fold line/deep wrinkle/scar. My ear ist bleeding, no yellow gunk or anything, completely normal. This showed up a while ago, I didn’t change my routine, though it would go away but it got a bit bigger, about a bit leess than 1cmx1cm. Can’t really see it, just feel it. I know this is something that definitely shouldn’t just be discussed in a RU-vid comment, but as I said “piercers” here aren’t really helpful, same goes for the jewelry ladies. They just tell you to spray it with the antiseptic and if it gets infected to put on a bit of Hydrocyclin... I am just worried a bit. Thank you in advance.
Well, your ears have been though a lot. The swelling is normal but if it starts to exceed the length of the post, it will need to be removed or a longer piece put in. Saline solution is your best option, it will cleanse the wound, reduce the swelling and make it feel better. I'm not sure if it is available wear are but try a Pharmacy. Neilmed sterile saline wound wash is what I suggest. If you can't find a spray get sea salt and distilled water. Heat up 8oz of the water to a comfortable temperature about the same as a warm bath. It is best to do it in a microwave. Add an 1/8 of a teaspoon of the salt, let it dissolve and it should be as salty as your own tears. Take a clean paper towel, soak it up and lay it against t gt e piercing for 10 minutes twice daily. With the spray just spray it on the paper towel and apply it to the piercing. With the other ear, you might want to see a doctor. It could be an abscess or cyst from a minor infection.
I got my Medusa piercing done 2 weeks ago and it feels absolutely fine but I’ve noticed the underneath flat part sits in my skin in under lip. now if I touch ball on upper lip and push down it pops out no problem and it’s got plenty of space as my upper lip one pops up a bit if I laugh or smile etc so should I be worried about the underneath part sitting snug against skin at times and some skin overlaps at the sides a tiny bit or not cause pops in and out easily and when talk I feel against my teeth so I don’t think it’s sitting in al the time but I’ve googled it and not sure if it’s normal when healing or if it’s nesting or if it’s embedding starting and needs seen? It’s just a tiny bit of skin slightly goes over the sides? Thanks for any help as you can tell I’m confused if it’s something I should worry about or not as piercing feels absolutely fine x
It's hard to say without seeing the piercing first hand and you may want to have your piercer take a look. It sounds like the piercing is nesting which is normal. However if the skin is growing over the disc, you should see your piercer asap.
Hey, I got my conch pierced 3 days ago and it’s really swollen and there’s some pus forming around the front of it. I’ve been cleaning it 2 times a day since I got it done with sea salt water. The bar he put in was fairly long and I could move it in and out about 1cm but not I can’t move it at all because of the swelling. What should I do?
I got two piercings in my cartilage nearly a year ago, they swelled, and went down a little but have been swollen since. Neither is particularly painful, although the lower one can be a little sore. I believe that this is not normal and was wondering if you had any tips. Thanks.
Swelling is not the norm. Sometimes the area will increase slightly but usually it isn't noticeable. I would suggest seeing your piercer and have them take a look.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing my helix piercing has been swollen for 6 days... ive cleaned it everyday. i have been bumping it accidentally, could this be the cause of the swelling?
Swelling is usually a reaction to trauma. So yes bumping the piercing can cause this. Cartilage piercings are a great deal more sensitive to this. The main thing s make sure that the swelling does not exceed the length of the jewelry. If t does not esnt improve or worsens, see your piercer.
I just pierced my nose and the jewelry I have in it is a straight bar. And its not coming out the other side because of the swelling. My mom said that it should be fine in a few days
This is usually a normal reaction to the trauma of the piercing. It should begin to fade in about 3-5 days. If it doesn't or begins to swell beyond the length of the jewelry, see your piercer.
i’m not sure if you’ll see this given this video was made quite some time ago but i got a double helix piercing done about 2-3 days ago & on day 3 i am barely experiencing swelling. Is it relatively normal to experience swelling later on instead of right away? Also, would it be ok to do a salt water soak? Thank you!
Some times they don't swell at all or see fine for a month and then you wake up one day and it's twice it's normal size. Just isolate and give it time.
Hi I got my bellybutton pierced 3 weeks ago it’s swollen in the middle with pus that’s comes out after soaking in warm water not sure if it’s infected or process for healing ?
I got my 2nd lobes pierced around 4 days ago and around 2 days ago I noticed at the back of my piercing it was like a ring of dark red that looked like blood under the skin. I think it’s a bruise but it’s quite bad, is that normal?
I just change my tragus piercing yesterday after two years of having the same earring in my tragus and I noticed today that it is a little swollen but maybe because I accidentally laid on it plus I did make sure that the new earring was clean before I put it in my tragus. So I was wondering if that was normal?
You may have caused some trauma but the other option is you are having a reaction to the jewelry material. If it worsens or gets worse, see your piercer.
I just got a ring switched into my helix piercing of almost a year. It been a few days and it has begun to be sore and swollen. What is the reason? I read that it might be because it has healed with straight jewelry and putting curved jewelry irritates it for a bit. Is this correct? Should I be worried?
There are a couple of things that could cause this. The first would be the increased movement and the twisting that could be caused by sleeping on it. The second is the ring is too small and your body is reacting to the drastic change if there is too tight of a curve in the piercing.
You are welcome. I hope it helps and the swelling goes down. The only real thing you need to watch out for is making sure the swelling doesn't exceed the length of the jewelry. If that starts see your piercer.
Hi! I got my tragus piercing done 4-5 days ago and it was perfectly fine it didnt hurt or was swollen and i have been cleaning it everyday until 2 days ago it started to swell up a little but until yesterday it got really swollen and there is almost no more space on the bar. I woke up today and its still the same, is it normal or should I see my piercer?
Thank you for this information, I had my industrial piercing last week. I've swelled so bad, I had to take my other piercing out above it. Is this normal? My shop was closed yesterday (sunday) closed today (Momday) and it's starting to hurt and dig in lol
I got my nose piercing about 2 months ago, however I have had a swollen nose everyday. I have been using sea salt on it and washing it with dial soap, none the less neither are working.
I got my septum pierced a month ago and it's started swelling now. There's no pus but it is sore when I push on the tip of my nose or on the bottom, is this normal or an early sign of infection?
Remove the jewelry. It's not a piercing I suggest in the first place but if the swelling is beyond the length of the jewelry, it is only going to get worse.
i got my ear pierced a month ago and 2 weeks in it got infected, i took care of it and about a week ago i the infection seemed to go away but i still have the swelling, the swelling exceeds my piercing on some days and i have to take the back of the earring off so it can calm down, i thought it would’ve gone away by now since the infection is gone but the swelling persists, it’s been like this for about a week now what should i do, thanks :)
Sounds like you might have a abscess or cyst. Which will require medical attention. Your body heals infections by forcing the infected tissue out of the wound and replacing it with healthy tissue. When you remove the jewelry, the piercings holes close and block your body's ability to do this. This causes one of two things to happen. The first is that the infection turns into an inward traveling infection and begins to spread into other tissue. If left untreated it can turn septic and cause permanent tissue loss. More commonly though the body isolates the infected tissue and fluids by creating an abscess or cyst and then slowly and painfully forces it to the surface. In both causes medication and lancing and draining the wound will be needed. It is why we do not suggest removing jewelry from an infected piercing.
i got my snug done almost 2 months ago up until about a week ago it was doing perfectly but now it’s swollen so much and i don’t know why i make sure to never sleep on it or never have my hair around it i always clean it i just don’t know what to do
I got my double helix done 3 weeks ago and 6 days ago I got my bars reduced from 10mm long. Yesterday I had to go back to the piercer because my ear had swelled soooo much out of nowhere and the bar was sooo tight and the ball was beginning to be covered, they said if I left it until the next day I would have had to get it CUT OUT as it would have disappeared into my ear 😖 well I found out why it swelled, instead of changing my bar length from 10mm to 8mm she put in a 6mm!!! It was already tight before the swelling, so thanks piercer for messing up my ear 🙄😂
This is why I generally say that unless the longer jewelry is causing issues, it is best to leave the jewelry in until it is healed. What happens is the jewelry change in fact causes additional trauma and the body react with swelling.
Love the video. My last lip piercing did exactly what you said. My lip rejected it and pushed it out my face. Luckily I went to another piercer and she was able to take it from the top. I almost went to the doctor and had surgery. I just got it done again a year later and I have the other piercer which is a girl to put a longer bar in. So far so good. I have huge lips
I had my rook piercing and double helix 3 days ago and since then it is swelling up until now, It also hurts. Is it normal? Im so worried I want to take it off :(
It is normal it see swelling and tenderness in the first 3-5 days. Pain without contact is not and swelling that suddenly appears is often a sign of trauma to the piercing. If it worsens or doesn't start to subside, see your piercer.
Hello sir, i got my tragus with a piercing gun.. I regret is very very much, the swelling is getting so bad that my earring got sunk into my ear. I soak my ear 3 times a day, shops are closed because of the pandemic. What can I do? If i take it out I am scared that the infection will be 'stuck' in my ear when the whole closes up
@@BodyPiercingTattooing it's okay, my own fault, too much trauma. Is it normal for the surface around the piercing to be 'hard' and a tiny bit swollen? It doesn't hurt when I touch it tho
I got a conch piercing two days ago and it started swelling a day ago. There’s no pus and it hasn’t swelled too much but it’s red for most of the ear and it’s throbbing a lot...could it develop into an infection ?
Is everything good now? My sister has a conch piercing, she’s had it for about 12 days and it’s swollen, super red, and she says it’s painful. We think it’s bc we used saline solution to clean our ears this time, I wanna help but idk how since I feel like I started the problem since I recommended saline, any advice?
@@zayarawr7856 yess! I got a cartilage the same time she got her conch so we both had new piercings. We ended up switching to antibacterial soap to clean our piercings and it made it so much better!!
@@zayarawr7856 It took me and my sister a couple days for the swelling to go down, maybe about 1-3 days, but I think everyone’s body heals differently!
Hi there. I got my ear lobes pierced on the 30th November 2022, so it's just about 6 weeks now. Since about maybe 2 weeks ago, I played soccer and knocked my right ear lobe piercing, which the next day got swollen and has been ever since. No blood or puss though, and there was throbbing for a day or two, and then it stopped. Seeing that it's been 6 weeks now, and still no pain but still swollen, what should I do next? I'm fearful that should I swap my earrings with new ones when my swollen ear isn't sorted yet that It might get worse. Please help! Awesome video BTW!!
Your body is reacting to the trauma. Usually the swelling will recede in a few days. The only concern is if the jewelry isn't long enough to make room for the swelling. If the swelling exceeds the length of the post, see your piercer to get a long one put in.
I’ve had my earring done for a few weeks and it’s been swollen for 3 days now, whenever I touch it hurts and once I take my earring out it’s hard and it hurts to get it back in, what should I do?
Well, first off you shouldn't be removing the jewelry for any reason until the piercing is healed. The piercing will swell as a reaction to the trauma of the piercing. Removing and putting the jewelry back in will increase the trauma. There are a number things that could be going on. Reaction to the jewelry, improper jewelry, Aftercare, how the piercing was done... I really suggest seeing a reputable professional piercer.
I just found your page looking up swelling. I was worried about my flat. I got my flat done 4 days ago. And these past two days. It's been hurting. I have a hard time cleaning it. Bc I can't seem to push it back and forth. To clean it. Do I need to go back to the tattoo shop and get a longer earring? Or wait it out. I love your video.
It is normal to see swelling for the first 3-5 days. This is a reaction to the trauma of the piercing. Do not stress about cleaning it, just apply the saline and leave it alone. Moving the jewelry and picking at the piercing is just going to cause more trauma that could prolong and increase the swelling. If the swelling doesn't start to recede or starts to exceed the length of the post, see your piercer asap.
Five days is usually when the swelling will start to subside. Ice can help but not as much as avoiding contact and trauma to the piercing. Also saline will help with swelling.
This is probbaly a long shot cause this video is old but I got my faux rook pierced at a reputable piercer 5 days ago and the swelling started at 4 days after I got it done (so yesterday). It’s pretty bad swelling I’ve not really got this swollen before it’s pretty much effected my whole ear and even hurts into my jaw. I know the jewellery is high quality and I’m using sterile saline solution and following the correct aftercare and there is extra length on the post so I’m not sure what else it could be. The swelling is very bad and I’m unsure what do to do about it or if this amount of swelling is normal. I had a paper towel with ice wrapped and held it there for a while (which ain’t exactly clean but I thought it would help reduce the swelling) and it didn’t help. Any tips or advice would be helpful thank you
That is not normal to see that much swelling or that large of an area effected. I really suggest seeing your piercer, you may need a longer post or may be having an allergic reaction to the material. The only other thing I can think of is that you had a reaction to something that was used during the piercing procedure. However, usually that reaction would have happened much sooner.
ive had my septum piercing for over a year now and last night i changed my jewelry from an 8mm horseshoe ring to a 6mm and it has been swollen and sore all day, but its not leaking blood or anything or hot to the touch. i was struggling screwing the ball on so i was tugging on it a bit, do you think it could just be irritated from that or maybe the diameter of the ring is too small and i should go back to an 8mm horse shoe? also the website says that the jewelry is made of surgical steel
i got an upper lobe piercing a week ago with a gun and it’s been so swollen that the earring keeps sinking into my ear. im able to push it back out though. it’s a little bit painful but i’ve been putting ice and salt water on it. it was bleeding a little bit yesterday but hasn’t today.
@@vanessagitonga4870 yep! it left a little scar but nothing too noticeable, it’s also a little hard in the spot where the piercing closed but its not infected or painful.
how long do you wait before changing your earring to a larger size ? Because mine is swollen and keep sinking and i have to push it back up everytime :(
Just thought I'd leave a comment, Thankyou so much for this, video it helped me a lot as my ear love has started to swell a bit and I started to worry a little, but now I know that it's normal, I will keep an eye on it but thankyou for the info it helped out a lot
I got a helix piercing nearly 5 months ago and I’ve continued to clean it with saline but it’s been swollen at the back since it was pierced and I keep having flare up of tenderness and redness. What should I do?
6 weeks in and i got both my lobes pierced. all was going well but one of my lobes is swollen. i pushed in the piercing a bit because i thought it felt loose and i’ve also been sleeping at that same side. don’t know if it’s my piercing being too tight or if it’s the pressure from sleeping on it but i’d like some advice on what i should do.
This has nothing to do with the video but I was just wondering if thats a Sam the cooking guy t shirt? Lol aside from. That thanks for the informative video ! :D
Okay well my swollen went down quick within 3 days but I didn’t have any non iz or sea salt in the house at the time only for those 3 to 4 days then I finally bought biotin mouth wash and non iz salt with distilled water but when I touched my tongue I felt a knot inside my younger not on the percing but it does not hurt just a lil sore what should I do
