Kings are a bit of a mess of a team. Their coaches didn't even know how to maximize PLD's skill set. Their now full-time hired coach Hiller, won't last long. They will still have trouble with the Oilers and other NHL teams that play an aggressive offensive attack. Kings didn't need a PLD skilled type forward, as they needed more scoring from their blue line and better goaltending.
Capitals lockerroom is really good at getting guys to buy in. He appears on the surface to already be matured, I believe in Carbery getting him to buy in despite the capitals overall taking a step back, though I think they'll perform much better next season despite the aging core.
As a Kings fan… let me be the first to tell you be said the same exact things about LA off-season. At the end of the day, this guy does not love the sport of hockey. I’ve never seen anything like it.
@@MyRU-vidHandIe Caps got Mantha to buy in, sold him at a decent price for him to give up and stop trying in Vegas. Biggest difference is that PLD will be getting top 6 minutes, Kings had rim rotting on the third with no special teams.
watch his play away from the puck. Im not trying to bag on your team. Im not trolling. Hes lazy. Last guy to back check. You will see. Hate to say that
@@patrickoverseas I value your input. I do. It's a new start for him (among three other new starts that he's had, I know) but I hope that he recognizes the opportunity that he has been given here in Washington. He likely will be on the ice when Ovechkin becomes the greatest goal scorer to ever play the game. In fact, he might be the primary assist on the goal. #ALLCAPS
Yes, he has all of that .....he just doesn't use it.....avoids contact...no drive.....forget about fighting for pucks on the boards ...hang out at the blue line and hope for loose puck in the slot for a chippy....constantly trying to get off the ice early....makes bad passes to avoid being hit.....I don't think that will fit in with Capitals hockey...
He said this EXACT same thing about going to LA, and look how that turned out (look it up)...His track record speaks for itself. Anyone want to bet me he doesn't make it 2 full seasons in DC? Yeah, I didn't think so ;)
Yeah except we're not gonna be bouncing him around the lineup and giving him bottom-six minutes. Y'all played him 3 minutes less a night in LA than he played in Winnipeg. We gave up nothing to get a guy who is getting 1C and 1PP minutes on our team and is easily putting up 60+ points next year. And all it cost was an overpaid 34-year old Darcy Kuemper. Love Kuemper, but have fun in 3 years when Kuemper is 37 and PLD puts up 70+ in the middle of his prime. Make fun of the contract all you want, y'all signed it not even one year ago and were thinking you had a super squad and our team has a ton of cap space.
He's gonna blossom in DC. There's always an adjustment period but we're committed to giving him the black and white that he really wants. The whole LA situation seemed poorly mismanaged all the way around.
You are right PLD, it’s a business and teams do what’s best for them…but so do players and you are at the front of THAT line…unceremoniously exited Columbus and then wanted out of Winnipeg…
Couldn't believe the Kings gave him 8.5 million and really can't believe the capitals traded for him. If he doesn't have a 30 goal or more season he will get bought out for sure.
Getting rid of Darcy and turning him into 50 extra points imo isn’t bad. We got mantha to rebirth his career and sell him for something. I think the capitals can easily get him PL going.
@@vladimir.73, hey Vlad. Canadian here. Pierre-Luc was a highly touted 3rd overall pick several years ago and after a few good seasons early he seems to have lost his game due to a few different reasons. He is a left shooting centerman who skates well and might fit in well as the Capitals are in need of a skilled Center after the loss of Kuznetzov and Backstrom.
@@mikelubey oh really that's your stance on it.... was the LA coaches fault.. OK..... What about the coaches in Columbus and Winnipeg???.. Hold up let me grab my 🍿 for your answer.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hate to say it but I think he does well here for a couple of reasons.. The Caps are brutal and he will clearly be their #1 Center. Also, I think we all know what his number 1 job will be here. But overall, if I’m being honest, I think something is unfortunately wrong with this dude.
Die Hard Kings fan and I really hope he get's going in Washington specially and specifically for Ovechkin to break 99's record ! Love Ovechkin he truly is the best pure scorer in History!
Caps are far from brutal, did they get swept in round one yes but it wasn’t like they were getting throttled. Adding Mangiapanni today doesn’t hurt either. Maybe it helps lure Lindholm to the Caps.
As a kings fan… I kid you not, this guy said the SAME thing after we signed him last year. It’s simple with PLD… he doesn’t LOVE the sport of Hockey. That won’t change anywhere.
welcome to washington, stay away from georgetown, we have the smithsonian. caps are no longer an old slow team, look forward to all these young guys making it work.
He’s like the girl who constantly cheats and the Capitals are now the new boyfriend who thinks he can change her. I’m a fan of his but my God his effort level is pretty bad. Never seen a player in over 45 years of watching hockey who plays with one hand on his stick so much. 4th team and he’s not even 26 yet, at some point it’s on him.
I wasn't sure how to feel about this trade until I heard this interview, now I'm really excited. I really hope he does well, seems like a nice guy. Really looking forward to watching him play!
Dude says the same thing every 9 months. He’s a passionless player who clearly doesn’t love hockey. It’s a job for him, like dead end job type mentality.
@MyRU-vidHandIe Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. Capitals are my favorite team. If they pick up a guy I want to see him do well. I see no point in bad mouthing someone on the team I like, makes no sense to me. Either way this is his Job. However he wants to view it is his buisness, dude could come in and turn his career around and put up record numbers for himself the way Strome has or he could be like Mantha and still not reach potential. Hope for the best but at the end of the day he's just a guy. Shitting on him ain't gunna help him play better which honestly his stats aren't terrible his cap hit is just really high.
@@OperationNemesis As a Kings fan, I was in their shoes last year as well. Guy has had plenty of practice saying all the right things - he does it every 9 months or so after he burns his bridges. Only a matter of time before they learn
It's always been Pierre Luc's dream to play for an NHL bottom feeder, and here he is. Caps don't have a hope in the next decade and that is a perfect environment for Pierre Luc Dubois.
