RIP Pierre.A truly magnificent, underrated drummer who deserved much greater recognition. The Gong gigs I have attended were some of my best musical experiences.
So many times I have left comments on GONG tracks and as a tribute to the worlds best drummer Pierre Moerlen a sad R.I.P and now I have to include Mr Gong himself R.I.P Daevid (pixie) Allen. As I am now 61 it won't be long B4 it will B GONG R.I.P
People are saying that Pierre Molerns Gong and Daevid Allen's Gong did not have anything to do with each other. But as mather in fact Pierre Molern played as drummer and percussionist in some of the tracks from Daevid Allen's Gong. Specially the track "The Isle of Everywhere" that features on Daevid Allen's Gong. On one of the albums. Then Pierre Molerns Gong and Daevid's Gong did have a little to do with each other anyway, I guess.
Gong was daevid allen creation, 1974 he s left the group Steve hillage take the lead for little time and left After moerlen take the lead Some Years later daevid s back So 2 gong version on same time Original Isle of everywhere is from you album with daevid allen
Pierre was the drummer for Gong for the classic Flying Teapot Trilogy circa 1973-74. IMO some of their best work. If you were at any of these gigs you would know what I mean.
