Wow. I live in Ontario and that stat regarding Clmate Rebate is MADDENING. If each family is paying 1600 on average and these 8/10 families get *almost* 300 back annually... that is straight up stealing. All of it for each province is stealing! Do they not know that we know a rebate isn't free money?! It's litetally being givrn back what we were OVERcharged!!! OMG i see red

I don't live in Canada, but what I don't really understand about the carbon tax is if it's true that most people get more money back than they spend on carbon taxes (unlikely and probably impossible to accurately calculate anyway... not to mention they probably don't include the GST and PST on the carbon tax calculation), then where exactly is the incentive for people to reduce their carbon footprint? If people are getting more money back than they are spending on it, wouldn't they just go well... i guess I can use a little more and I'd still break even. Seems to me this is just a wealth distribution tax disguised as a save the planet initiative. Much like the "education tax" on higher value properties in BC doesn't go to education at all but it sounds nice. In any case, Canada emits less than 1.5% of the world's emissions so even if you can tax everyone into using half the carbon they use today, it will have almost no impact on GLOBAL warming. Seems like such a complicated and polarising policy with almost zero return.

If it’s true that 8 out of 10 get more money back then they pay what’s the point of charging the tax in the first place the whole idea is to make driving and heating our home more expensive so we lower our thermostat and drive less if we’re getting more money back why would we do that doesn’t make sense
