If even 10% of Leftists spoke the way Slavoj Zizek speaks, More people on the Right would listen. As I Conservative myself with fairly RIght leaning sensibilities, I WANT to hear opinions that are different from my own! But the way the Left brings those opinions is always so childish and one dimensional. It just turn me right off. Zizek makes me listen and think and even when I still disagree with him(which doesn't actually happen to terrible frequently), I still reap two benefits. One: I've heard a reasonable counter to my own argument and Two: BECAUSE the argument is so well formulated, I'm forced to start from the beginning of my own argument and make sure that I still believe those things. Absolutely invaluable.

Two errors/omittance in case anyone listened to Zizek for the first time: 7:11 He meant Ukraine not Russia here. The point was that Putin was anti-Lenin. 38:14 That was an awkward disconnection because I believed he mentioned Trump here (hence the subsequent "a post modernist, making fun of everything, etc") That is the usual parallel he drew - "post-modernist" Trump vs. "moral majority" Bernie.

Piers is shallow and not particularly reflective but has a fantastic ability to see that same lack of reflection in others. He's made a career out of two types of interviews: 1) demolishing guests who parrot the mainstream narrative 2) finding common ground with guests who the mainstream hates. Funnily enough zizek and Andrew Tate are both category 2, which nicely demonstrates the fact that piers is not pushing a particular view of the world, he's trying to construct interesting/popular interview content, each existing in complete isolation.

Žižek is an old-school philosopher from the balkans. His values are strongly influenced by humanism and anti-fascism. Many people in central europe no longer really know this form of thinking. That's why he sees, for example, that Putin is a dangerous autocrat and his actions are anti-democratic. Genuine left-wing politics or activism is always against war and any form of injustice and repression.

Slavoj is very respected. But the only thing i dont like: people like Slavoj and John Mearscheimer need a better intellect host and unbiased one, so you hear the best of both sides. Piers is intellectually limited compared to them and very very very biased against you if you dont have the regular western simple ideas (We are civilized, they are not).

What the lady from the African National Congress failed to explain to Slavoj is that, to put it as to say "there is a genuine nostalgia" for apartheid, would be inaccurate. Black South Africans may long for the economic stability, law and order of the time before 1994. But I dont think anyone misses being a second class citizen in South Africa.

There have been 5 elections in 2 years in Israel, where Netanyahu was not able to form a coalition. He succeeded in forming one just last year, after a lot of compromising and concessions to the ultra-orthodox parties. I'm not sure most Israelis agree with this government, I actually think the opposite.

One shouldn't fall into the argument trap: "Anyone who doesn't accept my opinion is a fascist." You can tell by the person's objection whether they have fascist traits. Just because a conservative or woke person has a different opinion (and may even not want to accept another opinion) does not mean that this person would go so far as to suppress other opinions with some form of violence. If the person being criticized, right or left, can defend his or her opinion, that's a good sign. If he/she is listening, that's an even better sign. It would be fascist if there was no willingness to debate at all.

Because what you hear from the left, right, liberal, conservative side is pretty placative, ideological driven, not by facts /evidence. As a leftist myself I'm tired of plenty things the vocal left brings forth and I disagree on many occasions. If we can't take reality like it is, not simplifying complex issues, we end up making wrong things worse. And we already are split into groups, often lead by shamans that "tell us how it is and goes", solving nothing but generate tribalism. Critical thinking leads us to right conclusions, to feasible solutions and then to a better, more just world only. If we stay this way, we end up as a species doomed to fail and extinct, that in one or the other way.
