I'm pressing on with the motor after a bit of a break; now messing around with manifolds and carburettors.
Music: ‘Honeysuckle’ by Honeyroot.

We really enjoyed watching you toiling away at your work bench as we ate pork chops and roast potatoes! You made a lovely job of that flange for the intake manifold, it was such a nice fit, a real work of art! It is most inspiring to watch you working with simple tools and achieving so much... and we chuckled at the devilish electrical gadget that worked so well with a metal cutting blade!

Pork chops and roast potatoes; it's not often that the comments make me feel hungry!

A splendid demonstration of 'ye olde' engineering skills, abetted by a bit of hi-tech sawing performed in a most creative workshop milieu. Loved it. Real mans-cave stuff. More please Nick.

As always great fun to watch you fabricate great stuff!! I love your idea of making your own copper sheet head gasket. Have at it! Dan

The copper sheet has arrived. It's going to be a fiddly job cutting it out but I think it will work. A 'hold my beer' episode!

Fun video; thanks for sharing it. An aside: Several of the period-correct hand tools that are sitting on the bench in the Pietenpol hangar were donated my dad when he and I visited OSH (I think that was our '92 trip).

Oshkosh has a nice Aeronca zk and only a 3 hour drive.

Your manifold looks *much* better than the factory offering, Nick. Hope you manage to get your house looking less burgled before the family returns, LOL! And please don't crash the sim. Cheers!

The manifold certainly look better with the cast iron hotspot removed. I'll try to get the exhausts done this week. House tidy, dinner cooked for their homecoming and no simulator crashery. Hurrah!

Borax is a good brazing Flux too

You are so handy! I wish I knew how to braze

I’ve always had an oxy-acetylene set, wouldn’t be without it. Brazing is old fashioned but very effective, particularly if one wants to join dissimilar metals such as cast iron and steel. It’s nice to watch the molten spelter run around the joint; welding is never quite so satisfying.

I think i like most all of your projects. I find this particularly interesting. I really like pietenpols especialy with the ford antique engines swinging a bigger wood propeller. It just looks and works right. Just like the j3 cubs look so good with the older cotinentals. Just timeless machines.

Hi Sam. I agree 100%. The Ford engined Pietenpol works well on so many levels. Looks and performance, because it's not bad for 40 horsepower. The Piper J3, the Aeronca C3, they look good and fly well. Thanks for your comment and support.

Very nice work. After watching you, I think I’ll get a gas rig of my own. I was thinking, if you made that exhaust plate one piece instead of two, it might be a bit stronger and stay in place better. It would add a little weight but that really doesn’t matter for this engine.

You are quite correct although I've been out in the shed (not reading those damn manuals!) and the rounded off plates look really good as a pair. I know what you mean tho' and it's an entirely valid observation. More soon. How about the Saw of Satan?! I couldn't live without the oxy-acetylene plant and a lathe.

You need to invest in a 3.5 inch grinder 😊
@FlyingForFunTrecanair

I dislike the mess that grinders and disc cutters make; the dust goes everywhere and is filthy stuff and I only use them outside in the yard. Saws and files just make metal chips which are easily cleaned up with the shop vac.
