This was taken at Brodhead, WI. during the Pietenpol Fly-in 2010. The airplane was built by Gary Karner, Bill Liimentainen and Fred Gustafson. Flown here by Chad Wille.
I build custom propellers for antique airplanes - St. Croix Propellers. I have built scores of these props over the last 30 years so can help you directly.
The water pump is a standard aftermarket pump commonly used on Model T Ford engines in cars. It will fit the Model A engine as well and is sometimes used instead of the regular Model A pump. I believe this custom radiator was made by Forrest Lovley some years ago but not sure of that.
Greetings, all. Orrin Hoopman here. Perhaps you recognize the name from the Pietenpol plans drawn by my grandfather. I have just run across some pics of the original single seat B-4-T 10718 taken ca.1932. Anybody interested in them?
Can anyone help me find a propellor for a sky scout with model A engine. It should be the same as for the air camper, a 78 x 42 prop. I can't find a source. Are their plans for this prop anywhere?
The ladies propeller starting technique is not so good. Not as she is moving back she leans forward. I think accepted practice is to use the right leg, swing it somewhat across in front of the body and as you pull the prop down you throw leg back across pulling you away from the airplane.
