Ground & Aerial Sequences of Michelle flying her "Piet." Pilot: Michelle Goodeve Camera Plane Pilot: Bruce "Rotten" Paylor Videographer & Editor: Glenn Norman
BTW: You might also enjoy a video we put together for a "Degrassi Fan Convention" ~4 years ago. (Michelle played teacher Ms Avery in the teen cult-hit TV show.) We lifted the central part from the video you've seen, but the take-off & landing has a lot of Go-Pro shots from Michelle's POV. (Note: As this vid was screened at the "Degrassi Palooza Fan Convention," at the end, Michelle is handing off to her alter-ego, "Ms Avery," live on stage.) 🤭😎 Check our "channel" fearwidge for more vids of Michelle flying her Piet and various other antique airplanes.
I watched this video quite a few months ago I believe. I just sent an intent to buy payment on one of these that's in Western Wisconsin. It was disassembled so I wanted to get reassembled and to pass the condition inspection before I complete the deal. plan to fly it back to Central Michigan in a minute is. Hope it's as beautifully flying as they look. By the way, that was a beautiful forward slip to landing! My other airplane or current airplane that is and I have no intention of selling it, there's a Wtitman tail on W 10-8. I've come back with the grass ponytail in the landing gear on several occasions.
In that case, may I suggest you watch "a virtual flight with Michelle" which we posted for her recent appearance at the "Degrassi Palooza" Fan Convention. She played teacher Ms Avery on that monster, teen-cult TV series and - 30 years after she left - made the video so she could take her fans along for a "virtual flight." You'll find that video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gsBSQy-jwrA.html Note: Some duplication with this video, but a lot of new, Piet-mounted + Pilot POV GoPro video clips.
I've watched about a dozen viedoes on this plane type, and this is the first I've seen with a cut out for the pilot., Why isn't this more popular tieht the type?
Thanks. I shot the air-to-air footage out the side of a Citabria with the door removed. Michelle shot the interior POV shots with a helmet-mounted "Contour" hi-def camcorder (precursor to the Go-Pro). Our friend, Bruce "Rotten" Paylor, was the camera plane Pilot.
Beautiful airplane, beautiful fligth and beautiful movie! May be the music … Perfect airplane to me: ligh airplane two seats open cockpit, wooden structure, splendid view! A project to build. I am in France where I can have a lot of support to build a Jodel for exemple. I like them but there are closed canopy and low wing that hides the view behind (I flew the DR400 which has similar configuration). I hope I could find other people who build Pietenpol in France.
Yeah. Michelle likes the continuous line of the upper cowling, reminiscent of a 1929 Gipsy Moth we used to fly. The down sides are: You can see NOTHING straight ahead on takeoff & landing - but Michelle has extensive experience using peripheral vision when flying "blind" antique aircraft. Besides, the original Piet - with a rad mounted vertically in front of the front cockpit means you NEVER have forward vision, while Michelle's Piet is fine once the tail is up. Also - the open front of the cowl acts as a bit of an "air dam," but she's planning to add side louvres to give that air "a way out." And while Cub/Luscombe type cowlings are more aerodynamic and offer a better forward view, Michelle prefers the clean lines of the Pietenpol she's owned for 37+ years...
All the best of luck. Pietenpols appear to be undergoing a "renaissance" right now. We keep on hearing of more people building them. Not bad for an Aeroplane design that first flew 91 years ago!
I'm curious as to what motor you have in her? I am In the process of buying(not building) my first Piet, and the plane has a c85. Your climb rate looks very solid despite the reviews I've read about the a/c. What motor and what are you looking at for climb? Nice plane/video.
Hey Daniel. Glad you enjoyed the video. Michelle Goodeve's Pietenpol has a 74-year-old, a65 Continental engine (same as in Cubs/Champs/etc.). It may LOOK like it has a "solid climb," but whenever Michelle lets me fly it, the word that pops into my mind {re climb} is "Glacial." On a good day, it climbs out at around 400fpm. So that extra 20hp on a C85 could make quite a bit of difference. (Just don't forget that a bigger engine burns more gas, which gives you shorter range - or, requires larger gas tank{s}, which make the plane heavier when full, which slows it down.) The right prop is ALSO very important (Michelle has had 4 different ones over the decades: 3 wood & 1 metal. {Wood is better for a taildragger as it will break, rather than trash the crankshaft if you accidentally stand the plane on its nose with a metal prop}.) Mind you - as every Pietenpol has been built with slight differences - they all behave differently. A friend's Piet climbs MUCH faster with the same 65hp engine, but it was built lighter, has streamlined struts instead of round ones, and a very Fine pitch prop. Regardless, there's a reason people have been building Piets since 1929 - They're FUN. A real open-cockpit experience for a fraction of the price you'd pay for an antique. The best of luck with yours.
Sigh... This footage was shot for a new TV series we were trying to sell, so the music was important. (Both Michelle & I are professional Screenwriters/Exec Story Editors/Producers.) I thought Pietenpol lovers might enjoy the video, so decided to post it "as is." And THAT'S why it has music.
I guess by, "You guys," you mean people who actually create content for RU-vid, because you haven't uploaded anything. While I agree with you on music over videos with beautiful engine noises, I'm more annoyed by the RU-vid Police that take it upon themselves to make creators aware of THEIR preference. If you're that annoyed, please upload some original music-less aviation videos, or do like your momma should have taught you, and have a nice hot cup of stfu.
@@fearwidge Thank you for posting. As someone who's been interested in building an aircraft for years and that's planning on starting his own Piet in the next few months, I appreciate any bump I can get to scratch the itch.
Yeah. Michelle made the old three-pane windshields. Much better. Re larger tires: Nah. The 6.00X6 work fine and let her do "one-wheel" take offs & landings {REALLY important in strong crosswinds}. Cub tires would add more drag. Wire wheels LOOK nice, but we had them on our old 1929 Gipsy Moth and they were a PAIN to keep tuned. Thanks for the comment, GN
Sigh... (See above comments) AGAIN... This was shot to sell one of our new TV series, which is why it NEEDED music. But the images were so great, I decided to post it AS IS for Piet lovers. And 23,000+ viewers seem to agree. 'NUFF SAID. (Sheesh)
An idiot is beating up the back runway. But Michelle saw him coming and lifted the right wing to make sure he wasn't in conflict (hence the one-wheel T.O.). No biggy. She can handle it.
Yeah. Sorry. That was one of the first videos I'd cut with a new program (and I couldn't figure out how to cut out the black). But don't worry. You didn't miss anything.
I have addressed this point NUMEROUS times as you'll find if you scroll to my responses below. But - One More Time: Sigh...
Sigh... As I've explained numerous times in replies below... This clip came from a Demo Reel we shot to promote one of the many TV Series Michelle & I have created over the decades (in our jobs as TV Screenwriters/Exec Story Editors). I used stock music that came with the editing program and decided to post this clip for Pietenpol-lovers whom I thought would enjoy the aerial footage. And with 40,000+ views, it would appear most folks have...
