Pikmin 2 is one of my favorite video games of all time and it is filled with lots of easy to miss and underappreciated details, especially for a game developed in two years. These range from visual details to game design details.
There's obviously going to be some details I'm going to miss, so lemme know if you know of any! I've played pikmin 2 over a dozen times on multiple platforms, so I'm no stranger to this game at all. All details here were ones I've discovered throughout my time playing and modding the game and from my time in the pikmin community, with some help from pikipedia for the technical details.
The video is sort of split into two sections, the first half is quicker, with a bunch of unrelated details one after the other. The second half focuses on detail regarding sections of the game like specific caves, modes, and just long topics.
Some of these details aren't definite. They could always just be a coincidence. I tried to use appropriate language to describe details that may not be intended by the developers.

while i knew a good 75-80% of the things here, it's still cool how much detail is in this game, and i still learned a few things as a result. it's not just nostalgia for me. pikmin 2 is my favorite game in the series, and ive played all of the games in the past year to verify it. though i prefer the gamecube version to the switch version, both for the controls and stuff that got changed in the switch port. people say its pikmin for people that dont like pikmin, but i really appreciate its resource management focus, and its not like beating the time limit in the other games is that hard. i agree that p3 and p4 perfected things with mission mode/dandori missions, but for the regular game itself, i go back to 2 far more often. i never knew about the president's tv or some of the harder to spot cave continuity, i got some of the more obvious ones like snagret hole but the attention there is so great.

Turning the video quality down to 240 really brought out a certain feeling in me. It reminded me a lot of the types of Pikmin videos you'd see back on the earlier days of youtube, before Pikmin 3 was released. Shame that videos like this one are a mostly lost art nowadays.

11:11 This was also changed in Pikmin 4 where all Pikmin can attack the skin now 13:27 So Funny thing that happened, Right before the Pileated Snagret was about to get back in the ground, it got stunned in it’s diving animation 19:23 What helps with these walls is that you could then swarm Empress from the side making the fight end very very quickly 20:52 This makes me like and hate the President more now lol 25:21 on my first Playthroughof Pikmin 2 I ran into this and screamed for my life, I thought it was completely natural to run into Beady here 27:52 Always questioned what this was and wondered why no one has ever brought it up before 34:00 Funny you didn’t mention how the start of the Cave is just the nose of a smile: *:o)* 35:07 You could actually see this with the Pikmin 2’s first person perspective mode 40:18 Titan Dweevil’s theme is also used for every Boss in Pikmin Adventure from Nintendo Land, Playing that first then Pikmin 2 instantly gave me PTSD because Pikmin Adventure’s Extra Bosses are hard as balls

Pikmin 2 is my favourite game in the series for many reasons, but I honestly never knew how many small details I missed even after playing this game for 12 years. This is honestly one of the best Pikmin 2 videos I have ever seen and it definitely deserves more attention and appreciation (just like Pikmin 2 itself)

Is it just me, or does Pikmin 4's caves have nowhere near the amount of detail that this game goes above and beyond to have? Pikmin 2's areas (except Wistful Wild) seems to go out of its way to make each cave unique and relevant to the environment they're in, while Pikmin 4's caves seem a lot more random and irrelevant to what's happening in the overworld (you go into a cave on a sandbox, and you then end up in a tank in an aquarium?). Granted, it does have that one moment in Hero's Hideaway where you're in a frozen area and you end up near the freezer, but that was one potential instance.

I also felt a lot of Pikmin 4's caves missed when it came to this. A lot of Pikmin 4's caves have themes which match the environment which is good, but they don't do too much more in environmental detail. Some stand out, like Frozen Inferno which actually does this very well. You enter through a stove top, the first sublevel has fiery enemies and heat floors, but the next two sublevels are beneath the stove and are frozen cold instead. But there are also plenty of 4's caves which just feel completely removed from the environment you find them in like Engulfed Castle, Dream House, and Seafloor Resort. 4 also likes to sprinkle enemies anywhere regardless of their ecology which bothers me a little.

Holy hell, I only just realised that when a cave is cleared of treasures, they start singing the main theme motif of pikmin 2! I never picked up on that! Honestly, pikmin Is a comfort game, I’ve only really spent time on it three times, as in play threes, but never finishing, but it’s just got such a mood to it, and I do wonder what three and four are like and if they hold that same mood of the first two. I never played the original, I only played the second one on wii, And I’m pretty close to actually finishing it for once, and have finally started playing the original.

Very well put together video, I learned a surprising amount of new things! Here are a few additional details that I know of: Purple pikmin won't be knocked back by the attacks of a puffy blowhog. They also won't be scared by mitites and the roar of an emperor bulblax. Treasures on the surface emit a constant but very quiet sound Much like how a refight with raging long legs releases a swarm of mitites, beady is supposed to release spectralids. Unfortunately due to a small coding error this doesn't actually happen.

Cool, another detail that has to do with the world map is that its a real place in Japan! The forest is shokotan and the background mountain is mountain kamui, both located in hokkaido japan.
