Don't know why there isn't an option to turn it off. It gets really annoying against groups of enemies, as it forces you to throw all your pikmin on one enemy.
God damn I can't believe I didn't even think to do this. I probably spent 30+ attempts going through the whole gauntlet and collecting the purples first before coming back to the start and getting the onion. And I only barely squeaked by with bronze at 11 seconds left....this would have saved so much heartbreak 😭
The plucking whistle carries tf out of these challenges it's insane. No disrespect, I just never knew it existed until now. Knowing that I can get it later will make it a breeze.
This video has convinced me that getting plat even in Dig Deep without the Plucking Whistle is nigh impossible. I managed it without it with like 12 seconds left after several failed runs.

@@JanitorAntisocialI know this is months late but I have gotten platinum on all 10 stories without the plucking whistle but it is very tight and you need a near perfect route for each. Almost all of them come down to the last few seconds before losing platinum, except Story 7 and 10 since you barely pluck pikmin anyway.
@@train4292 tbh the thing with the water wraith is that if you leave him alone he actually doesn’t follow you that closely. You can literally just throw one purple at him and he’ll likely leave you alone for almost the entire thing. Idk why the AI works that way but you can completely ignore the water wraith for most of the challenge and be fine.
@@squibster81 Well from my experience, the guy was always hounding me, or at best WAY too close for comfort to the point one of my pikmin could get crushed, so I at the very least had to get him off the rollers he was on…which took up a lot of time I needed to get the purple onion, and so on. I think it boils down to personal experience personally
Honestly a good amount of the difficulty for me came because of auto aim. Like don't get me wrong, these challenges are really fucking difficult, but auto aim killing runs because it decided to throw my pikmin to a guy who knocked them off the edge instead of the thing right next to me made things really infuriating
@@louiepikmin3184 Ik what you mean. I love Pikmin 4 so much but 2 things that I absolutely hate is 1. Auto aim and the fact that there is no way to turn it off or a way to make it like Pikmin 3 Deluxe and 2. The fact that when you throw Pikmin on parts you have to wait before it lets you throw on more pikmin thinking you were the one that made a mistake when in reality you wanted to put more Pikmin on a treasure so it would travel faster
I'm not even going for platinum yet, I just wanted to get the purple and white onions, and this helped a TON! It's crazy how much time the pluck whistle saves, several times it came right down to the wire for me, but this guide really helps prioritize and shows the best "flow" for getting around the maps. Thank you for posting! Maybe I'll give a go at getting platinum once I unlock everything! UPDATE: I DID IT!! With exactly THREE seconds to spare on Level 10! Thanks for posting, it was a huge help!
I always think its cool how, although a decent amount of your success in dandori comes from ur skills with the game mechanics, its also like a puzzle, trying to figure out the best places for each piece to go to get the best result.
The way I was finally able to platinum #7 was to switch to solo oatchi at the beginning, charge up a dash and launch into the crowd. As soon as Oatchi started dashing I swapped back to my captain and played normally. The dash seemed to kill a few, and keep oatchi away from, me so he can keep busy killing without me accidentally whistling him back.
Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of people fall into the trap of staying on Oatchi. He’s doing nothing for you while you’re riding him when he could be getting kills.
I did 7 by sending Oatchi away as to bite up the enemies, then I killed the bulk of them with purples and towards the end I just ignored the pikmin and punched my way through with the grand triple combo. It felt pretty awesome, considering that I usually finished with less than 5s left, or didn't finish at all, and when I first tried this strat I got like 17 or 18 seconds left on the timer and an easy platinum.
I'mma be honest, all of the methods shown in this video worked for me except for #7. Meanwhile your comment comes along and gives the best advice possible! Thank you! Because I have the infinite rush now, I was able to curve the rush so that Oatchi killed even more than he otherwise would.
I gonna be typing on how I beat trial 2 here I know no one asked and it’s not related but I don’t care If you are interested then just so you know I attempted to be as optimal as possible because I didn’t have the pluck whistle(I only realised it’s existence past trial 7) I was also going for all platinum so I’m doing this as venting My path for the trial was immediately throw a red into the pine cone run along while throwing 4 into the jelly send oatchi at an icy bulborb charge the remaining 5 into the raw material and after oatchi comes back send him at the other icy dwarf bulborb then light up the fire pit and destroy the first straw/hay pack in front. Past the first section I call the Pikmin on the pillar to be got on oatchi rushed through the ice gate threw the pine cone onto the fire pit and immediately throw another pine cone onto the icy dwarf bulborb and use a red to kill it then i rushed the cannon beatle larva with oatchi killed it rushed pikmin at the pile of raw material and rode back onto oatchi and ramming into the other 2 icy dwarf bulborbs then I separated with oatchi with oatchi in the giant hydro jelly room have him start plucking and switched to my captain got the 4 raw material behind the straw/hay pack+left 5 pikmin on the building site after that used the guiding feature to bring the captain near oatchi have oatchi kill the enemies as well as use the pine cone for the big jelly and left five reds to get the raw material Past that I killed the blow hog idler’s alerted and used 6 of the pikmin to get the raw material then I just did the room after like normal as any other human being would(I’m not going to explain that one)and got everything I needed and got to the sage leaf Ps:I didn’t know about the pluck whistle until sage leaf trial 7 so I’m pissed off and am telling you on what optimised shit I did for trial 2 Sorry for the text wall btw
I've been barely scraping by with bronzes with what I have and honestly I came here to see a quick guide on the 7th story. Glad to see this video though, I'll definitely have to study it for when I go for platinum
Honestly with how short the stage is it’s not that annoying to reset if you get bad Water Wraith pathing. On my first attempt with a plat route he completely ignored me.
Yeah I tried every collect treasures mission, the impact site challenge mode in 1 (I will do the rest eventually) and I will do Pikmin 2 challenge mode when I beat it

Best purple run yet. Ive got silver. Funny two things I learned: Oatchi can knock down onion with rush. And bombs destroy those frozen walls that nothing else can get through. Great vid thx!
i now realize how foolish it was to do all of these before I had oatchi fully upgraded and the pluckaphone. so much time saved just on plucking and charging, even aside from the routing issues i could have saved 20+ seconds on most of the maps just from having them.
got through most of it by the skin of my teeth. come to the final challenge, try three times and got the purple dirtbag only within 30 seconds.... i think to myself 'uh oh. i'm going to need to use a youtube tutorial.' nurse my pride (only takes about 5 seconds) and then suddenly it's very clear as to why i was failing it. i would've never thought of just taking it along with me.... this is why i'm not the one making these videos. well done mate, thank you for your help. i would've been adhd-locked onto this for hours. now i might be able to finish my homework before 4am !!!
I was only barely able to do some of these (the white jewel level was especially tough for me). Doing all of them so quickly is incredibly impressive! You are indeed a true dandori master.
For the last level, I didn't know you could knock the purple onion with oatchi. So I would do a complete run to get the 10 purples, and have to run all the way back.
i feel so dumb lmao. i forgot you could use oatchi to knock stuff down so i did two entire loops in the purple key level because i thought i needed to throw ten purples up there.
SAME LITERALLY i was wondering how platinum was even possible when it already passed by the time i was on the second lap Also i dont blame you for not realising that onion did not look nearly close to the wall enough
thats what i did for a long time. what i ended up doing for a while was throwing the 8 purples + 20 ices up there, and then calling them back and using oatchi. but just rushing is a much faster way to do the same thing.
It’s impressive with how you beat these with such ease in short times. And this has helped me SO MUCH. I needed to figure out how to be done with this hell ASAP
Out of all my time of playing Pikmin 4, these sage leaf trials were the one thing that made me even question if it was worth playing.. and I _LOVE_ Pikmin! 100%'d 2 and 3 with no deaths, and am currently working on the first game deathless run. But watching you play made me realize something.. I realized one key variable that sticks out as not only poor and inconsiderate design, but also pretty much gatekeeps the player into playing through most of the story in order to get a at beating these trials. Let alone Platinum.. And that variable is Oatchi. Long story short: I picked an unconventional upgrade path for my pupper at around early game, and throughout the rest of it Ive been getting unnecessary deaths, even more unnecessary time loss, and of course; having no possible way of platninuming the last 3 sage leaf trials because Oatchi wasn't strong enough. Heck, I can't even *BEAT* the last trial, since I have to sacrifice all of my pikmin and Oatchi on carrying the purple onion through the tunnels while I have either one purple pikmin or 5 ice pikmin to defend the payload.. Ive been on this trial for what felt like _HOURS._ It sucks so much that because I didn't give Oatchi the right upgrades at the right time, I'm getting screwed out of completing the trials and getting the purple onion before I visit Giant's Hearth and Primordial Thicket so I can't prepare for the inevitable Wistful Wilds(tm) branded 1000-weight treasure that's gonna take a quarter of the day to bring back.. WHY couldn't they have made Oatchi's stats be set to a higher degree in these trials for non-buff upgraders? This is absolutely rigged.
Holy smokes! I didn't even think about using Oatchi to carry the purple Onion in the final trial. Half of these I ended up just getting the standard bronze medal, but I got Platinum on a couple of them... Good job!
Tips for 12:47 Story 7: The White Key, since I have a 3 m 3 sec on it 13:47 The leftmost egg by those Moldy Dwarf Bulborbs has Ultra Spicy Spray you can use to speed up the treasure collecting. Try lining it up to take all the Bulborbs and the eggs in a single Rush. There's also more Ultra Spicy Spray if you kill the Mammoth Snootwhacker, but no way there's time for that, you need to rush that thing like 6 times. 16:12 I'm not sure having Whites + Oatchi carry the Onion is the best? The Mammoth Snootwhacker can smack them off and cause deaths and lost time. Besides, you need to swap them off for Winged at the final section anyway. I just had 20 Winged on the White Onion the whole way, no risk of getting smacked and no swapping carriers. These were pretty fun challanges, especially 5, 6, 8 and 10 7 was just annoying though, it didnt take that long to do but the auto lock makes it feel like rng
I was about to give up because the Bublaxes level was far too hard. Then I watched your video. It taught me two VERY IMPORTANT things I didn't know: 1) You can summon the Pikmin sprouts with a whistle instead of plucking them!?!? 2) You don't have to do anything with the Bulblax corpses!
I prob played that white onion sublevel 20 times before looking you up to see if you had a solve. thank you! It still took me 4 tries with your route but I got it!
They can do a lot more than just that, useful for low day count but probably more limited in application for RTA, since RTA it has to save more time during the day than it costs to wiping out the enemies later... And that comparison becomes a lot more complicated when the bridge or breakable wall or whatever the case is is between you and the enemies! On that note I also find it really funny the tooltips suggest building bridges and such during the day to make your night easier, because it feels more that it makes the nights faster and harder, since some enemies no longer have to take a long way round to get to you.
I cannot tell you how many times in The White Key, when I tried to target the hanging ball above the Mammoth Snootwhacker, and the auto lock-on would target him Instead and make me lose like 10 whole seconds.
On the last stage i skipped poison frog and went straight to ball worm, you can aggro the frog so he doesnt direct attack and oatchi is immune to poison.
I barely scraped by with bronze on my first tries (and i think every level took me at least 2 attempts) but i did manage to do the entire dungeon as soon as it was available. Cant wait to try again after i fully complete the rest of the game
For turf turmoil, I like to start by throwing 3 pikmin at the wall, sending my remaining 12 after the spiky enemy, sending oatchi to dig and then using the five planted pikmin to kill the grubs with oatchi's help once he gets back from digging. by the time you kill the grubs the wall is broken and you can run through each areas candypop buds, damaging the snagret along the way and waking up the Oolix.
Im here because im stuck and now i can't work out why as you make it look so easy. Right im off now to realise i suck and im still stuck followed by another rage quit. x
Absolutely wrecking myself trying to get platinum on any of these trials. Not even close on some of them so decided I'd watch 1 just to see if I'm missing some crucial strategy. 5 seconds in and this dude whistles the pikmin out of the damn ground -_-
Got all platinum for the Dandori challenges and the Vs Matches. But I absolutely REFUSE to go for all platinum for the Sage Leaf’s trial, fuck that shit.
Ok so I, like, just unlocked the sage trials and got fucked by Dig Deep, I had no clue the Plucking Whistle was even in the game, so I'm gonna come back to these once I get it.
This morning (Aug 17) I finally finished this thing, got the Purple Onion so I could get the last treasure Next time I'm finding a cave to farm Purple Pikmin cuz wtf lol
I can't believe I didn't think about knocking the purple onion off the platform.. I've been going through the stage twice to get the 10 minimum purple pikmin and then going through the stage again carrying the onion. Still managed silver but I shook my head at the game very intensely.
First of all thank fuck for doing this as I may not have been able to do trail of the sage leaf myself. Secondly, for those who lack the dandori genius of this man- for level 3 and level 10, you don't need the summon/pull whistle. For level three, you can do without if you max out Otachi's Doggy paddle ability as it allow him to take treasure across rivers- for level 10, you just skip all the ice pikmin in the opening room and instead send the captain directly to the hydrojelly with the purple pikmin
