The large hole being carved out by the male (red marks on the sides of the face) I think will be a nest. This was filmed with a Sony A1 with the Sony 200-600 lens at 4k120 10 bit
Woodpecker comes from work and tells his wife...for supper could I just have about 5 Aspirin, and a glass of H2O...I think that I have a REALLY bad headache. .
Many thanks for this video. It is fantastic. The woodpecker painstakingly making its nest in the tree trunk by making a hole with its beak. That reminds me of our artisans who have crated wonderful carvings in granite years ago
Soo beautiful bird. Its as a doctor for trees. It eats the worms inside the stem. At the same time it builds safer nest for other birds too. We humans have something great to learn from this beautiful birds. Thankyou for your videos.

What a fantastic video of an incredible animal of the wild!!! It gives bird watchers a front-row seat. It's so amusing and amazing how Mother Nature provides various creatures the ability to strive and survive in challenging conditions. I assume that the power of their vibrations (resounding noise) discourages attacks from surrounding birds of prey...thankfully.
Thank you so much Syd! And I agree, the pecking probably makes birds of prey think twice. I think the pileated woodpecker isn't a small bird, so probably only the ambitious ones will go for them, along with maybe raccoons. They're also quite capable in zipping away from danger, or photographers trying to get a picture. I guess this couple realized I was trying to do right by them and decided to give me a shot.
Wow 1 of my favorite birds in a park I've been to a few times 👍 Great video coverage also ! Every time I try to get a good pic or video of them ... Poof they fly away !
Certainly, my first close-up encounter was how you described. The pileated was practically backstroking over the trail at eye level; raise the camera and it's gone. I think it's different when you're lucky enough to find them when they have a little construction project underway.
